Do you feel good about Alabama landing Antonio Alfano? - @rburn20
Alabama hosted Antonio Alfano, a 4-star defensive end from Colonia (N.J.) High School over the weekend. This was Alfano’s second trip to Tuscaloosa.
This visit went more in-depth than the first. He got to spend time with players such as Isaiah Buggs, Raekwon Davis and Anfernee Jennings. That’s important because having a brotherhood is something that is essential to Alfano’s decision.
The nation’s No. 5 strongside defensive end is a major target for the Crimson Tide. Alfano told SEC Country that the staff said he’s the No. 1 target on the board.

Alfano said he originally planned on making his commitment after his senior season. Instead, he’ll announce his decision no later than Aug. 1. He only has one more visit planned, and that’s to Penn State this weekend for the Nittany Lions’ spring game.
A quote that stood out to me from Alfano on Monday was his desire to play for a program that has “been there” and “knows what it takes to get there every year.” He’s talking about getting to the National Championship Game and winning it. Alabama is the only school that can offer that.
He also would have the opportunity to play early for a national title contender. The depth chart on the defensive line next season will be very thin. Isaiah Buggs and Johnny Dwight will be gone, and there’s a possibility Raekwon Davis could declare for the NFL draft.
That would leave the Tide with LaBryan Ray, Quinnen Williams, Tevita Musika, Phidarian Mathis, Christian Barmore and Stephon Wynn on the defensive line. I do know that the open depth chart is very appealing to Alfano.
I think after this visit, you have to say that Alabama is either slightly ahead of Penn State, which is likely the Tide’s biggest competition right now, or right behind the Nittany Lions. Alabama is certainly in a good position to land Alfano’s commitment.

BREAKING: Grayson Four set decision date and location (247Sports)
quote:
While opinions may vary on whether it was good for college football or the student-athlete, the first early signing period last December had a big impact on recruiting.
That was especially true in the state of Georgia, where several highly sought after prospects made their college decisions known on that day, including Jamaree Salyer, Emory Jones, and Trey Dean.
Those commitments were announced at the Sports and Social at Suntrust Park (Atlanta Braves Stadium), and on May 1, four highly sought after recruits from Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School are also set to go public with their college choice at Sports and Social.
Owen Pappoe, Kevin Harris, Wayna Morris and Kenyatta Watson II will announce their commitments live on Atlanta’s Fox 5 news. The decision and ability to do live on TV was set in place last week and now those decisions will take place that evening.
Owen Pappoe, an All-American, is the highest rated of the four prospects and his choice appears to be an SEC battle between Auburn and Georgia. He will take official visits to Penn State and Texas before he makes the final call.
“Auburn is in it late for me, because I think they would be a pretty good fit for me," Pappoe said Tuesday. "My family likes it over there and I think I can be good in their system. Georgia has been one of my top schools for a long time and I think if I were to go there I would be successful." When asked if he had a private leader, Pappoe replied “Yes.”
Kevin Harris, a fast riser in the recruiting world is now up to No. 40 in the country on 247Sports. There are three teams talked about the most with the 6-foot-4, 210-pound defensive end, who was a standout at the recent Nike Regional Opening at Buford.
“Bama, LSU, and Miami," Harris said Tuesday. "I am going to Miami this weekend as an unofficial visit. LSU will get an official on the 27th." When asked if privately he had a leader, Harris replied: “yes sir.”
Wanya Morris, also an All-American, is down to a two-team race between Auburn and Tennessee. “It is going to be really hard, it is one of the hardest decisions ever," Morris said. "I am going to Tennessee this weekend and Auburn the next weekend, both are officials. Yes, going into these visits, one school is ahead.”
Kenyatta Watson II, coming off a big performance at the Nike Opening Regional in Charlotte on Sunday is down to two teams, Texas and Notre Dame.
"Just because of how the (Texas) coaches are, they way they are connected to me and my family, plus they play in a great conference for defensive backs to play in," Watson said.
(Why Notre Dame) “It is the same with the coaching staff, Coach (Todd) Lyght has done everything thing I hope to do one day. I think he would be a great mentor to me and if I were to make it to the NFL, he would be good there too.“

Alabama battling Ohio State for one of nation’s premier defensive linemen
Hakeem Beamon is one of Alabama's top targets in the 2019 class.

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. It’s Tuesday, and we talk the latest about one of Alabama’s top defensive line targets.
Hakeem Beamon has Alabama and Ohio State on top
Hakeem Beamon was the only defensive lineman to be ranked in the top 25 SPARQ ratings last Sunday at Nike’s The Opening regional camp in Charlotte, N.C. SPARQ is an acronym for speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness. Beamon’s score of 108.9 was the ninth-best at the camp.
Beamon measured in at 6-foot-3½ and 254 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds, had a 33.5-inch vertical jump, posted a 4.59-second agility shuttle time and threw the 6-pound-plus power ball 42.5 feet.
His athleticism is why top schools such as Alabama and Ohio State want to add Beamon to their 2019 recruiting class. Those two programs sit at the top of Beamon’s list, with Penn State and South Carolina trailing.

Beamon broke down why Alabama and Ohio State are his top 2 schools.
On Alabama: “Their program is great. They’re known for developing a lot of players. I also really like the strength and conditioning coach. Coach [Nick] Saban is my second-favorite coach of all time. Frank Beamer is No. 1.
On Ohio State: “Ohio State’s defensive line coach [Larry Johnson] is the greatest to me. He’s shown me some stuff and I’ve learned a lot in just like 20 minutes from being around him. That shows me a lot about him. I also really like the staff there.”
Alabama is recruiting Beamon as a defensive end, as are most of the schools in contact with him. The Tide have several top defensive end targets in this class, such as 4-star prospects Antonio Alfano, Nathan Pickering, Jaren Handy and Byron Young.

Beamon (Chesterfield, Va./Lloyd C. Bird), a former North Carolina commit, isn’t sure when he’ll make his next commitment. He said it’s possible a decision could come before his senior season begins this fall or during the season.
He’s said he is planning to take official visits to Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State and South Carolina during the fall. He’s also expected to be on campus in Tuscaloosa this weekend for A-Day. Beamon expounded on what else he likes about the Tide.
“They are just competitive,” Beamon said. “You bring the best players in and if you do that, you’re going to make each other better. All of them have a high standard. When I went there, I met some of the players and I pretty much have the same mindset like them. I work hard and want nothing given to me.”
It’s too early for me to predict whether Beamon will be a part of the Tide’s class. I do know he’s a serious target for the team.

Players stop by Alabama on Tuesday
Alabama hosted a small group of visitors on Tuesday ahead of what’s going to be a busy weekend in Tuscaloosa for the A-Day game on Saturday.
Kane Patterson, a 4-star outside linebacker from Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville, Tenn.), made his second trip to Tuscaloosa this year. Patterson visited Alabama in February for junior day, which is when he picked up his offer from the Tide.
Zion Puckett, a 4-star wide receiver from Spalding High School (Griffin, Ga.), is one of the Tide’s top targets at the position. He also could play safety in college.
Omari Thomas, a 4-star 2020 defensive tackle from Briarcrest Christian High School (Memphis, Tenn.), doesn’t have an offer from the Tide just yet, but don’t be surprised to see him get one soon. He’s 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds. He’s very athletic for his size. He plays AAU basketball and grew up playing soccer.
Jabari Small, a 2020 athlete, who is teammates with Thomas, also visited Tuscaloosa.
SEC Country will have a full look of all of the visitors expected in Tuscaloosa this weekend for A-Day later this week. It should be a loaded group of prospects.

He reminds me of Petey Smith. I'm sure he has a better head on his shoulders though.
