I don't think James moves. Just seems as if that were the case he would've been experimenting on the other side of the ball this spring.
Yep. I thought they would experiment with it. Maybe they did briefly and abandoned it.

He's had a very nice Spring at TE. I feel great about the TE spot. All 5 returning guys are anywhere from very good to solid.

Irv Smith is possibly All-SEC caliber this year.
Forristall returns being out injured last year, and is a very dangerous receiving TE.
Hentges is the starter that everyone forgets about.
James is huge and a great athlete. 1st round upside potential.
Tennison looks to be potentially solid all-around.

Should let us redshirt Parker and put some bulk on him.

We've really evaluated well at that spot the past couple years. My least favorite of the bunch is probably the starter (Hentges) , and he's a solid player.

If the past is any indication, it will be more than one. What's the word on who the likely departure(s) is/are?

None of it matters if we don't have a QB willing to throw it.

The nation’s No. 4 weakside defensive end has a couple of elite teammates at Grayson High School in 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe and 4-star tackle Wanya Morris who are scheduled to make their college decisions on May 5.

There’s a chance Harris makes his decision that day, too. “I am thinking about doing it then, too,” Harris said. “I would say it’s more than likely I do it on that day. I feel like I’m ready to get things wrapped up.”

I missed this little nugget last night. May 5th may be a good day for us.

ETA: An "insider" on BOL said this about Harris last night:

FYI Chad Simmons put out his thoughts on top 30 prospects in GA yesterday. Here's some Bama related nuggets ya'll might be interested in

LB King Mwikuta - All Bama, only team that could threaten is UGA

S Jaylen McCollough - SCAR with TEN making a push

LB Trezman Marshall - UGA but Bama is threat

LB Kevin Harris - Different school everyday. Says MIA has some momentum but Bama/LSU right there as well

Those only names I saw Bama mentioned

Hank South put out a class estimate by position group:

quote:

2 QBs
1-2 RBs
3 WRs
1-2 TEs
4-5 OL
5 DL
4-5 LBs
4 DBs
1 K

Do we really need two TEs in this class?

We keep King regardless of what Georgia does IMO.

Steve Wiltfong said yesterday that McCollough was ours if we pushed. I gotta say the lack of interest in him by Georgia is a little interesting. Perhaps he's not as good as his initial ranking would indicate?

Marshall is UGA bound. I haven't seen anything regarding him from our side in a while.

Simmons is an idiot. Kevin Harris is down to Alabama and LSU with Alabama trending.

Thanks for the info man.

In latest Bama Cuts, former Alabama LB C.J. Mosley details why Auburn’s attempt to recruit him failed

quote:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — C.J. Mosley finished his career as arguably one of the best linebackers during the Nick Saban era and in Alabama football history.

Mosley, now an All-Pro with the Baltimore Ravens, starred on two national championship teams (2011, 2012), became an All-American and was named a permanent captain following the 2013 season.

Mosley made an appearance on the latest episode of Bama Cuts. While Mosley didn’t get his dreads cut, he did cover a wide range of topics, including Auburn’s failed recruiting pitch when he was a highly touted linebacker out of Theodore High School (Theodore, Ala.).

“This one school called Auburn, when I was getting recruited there; it came down to Alabama and Auburn. It was really heavy about where I wanted to go. One of the coaches [at Auburn] said, ‘Look at our roster and the linebackers here. Look at these guys, they got Dont’a Hightower, Nico Johnson and they just added a couple more players. You come here and you can start.’

“Unfortunately for him that backfired. I don’t want to go somewhere where they’ll just give me the position. I want to play with the best of the best. Obviously, Alabama definitely has some of the best players at linebacker, so if I could prove myself and start at Alabama with these players, I can definitely make it so that was a key factor of me going.”

Luckily for Alabama fans Mosley wasn’t afraid of competing. Mosley was one of the more versatile linebackers to come through Alabama. He continued the line of great inside linebackers started by Rolando McClain and Dont’a Hightower.

Next week, we get so see Tony Brown featured in Bama Cuts. This is must-see TV. He’ll be joined by Levi Wallace, Da’Shawn Hand and Rashaan Evans.

Personally, I think we only take 1 TE.

My wishlist would be

2 QBS
1 RB
3 WRs
1 TE
5 OL
5 DL
5 LBs
4 DBs
1 K

27 total

What is the "magic" number this year? 27 or 28?

Where Tennessee might turn for quarterback in 2019 class

quote:

Where is Tennessee going to turn at the quarterback position?

Quarterback prospect Sam Howell chose Florida State on Monday. It wasn’t too surprising he didn’t choose the Vols, because the coaching staff had backed off of him the past few weeks. Until that point, Tennessee had recruited him about as hard as any other quarterback prospect.

Offensive coordinator Tyson Helton is the lead man when it comes to finding a quarterback. It’s not clear how the Vols’ board is set up right now. Here are three names I’ve heard Tennessee has been going after to this point in the recruiting process.

Taulia Tagovailoa: Yes, Tennessee is going after the younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa who was the hero of the National Championship Game for Alabama. Taulia Tagovailoa and his parents moved from Hawaii to Alabama to be closer to his brother while he plays for the Crimson Tide. This won’t be an easy recruitment. Tagovailoa came to Rocky Top in February and there is some interest from the 4-star quarterback. However, he seems destined for Alabama after talking to people who have a better understanding of the situation. It’s a close-knit family and prying him out of Alabama would be a major feat. If Helton pulled it off, it’d be a major win for the recruiting class. Tagovailoa projects to fit well into Helton’s pro-style offense. If he has anywhere near the talent of his brother, it makes sense why the coaching staff would at least take a shot.

Travis Mumphrey: The Marrero, La., native likely came onto Tennessee’s radar because of wide receiver coach David Johnson. Johnson was hired, in part, to help build a recruiting pipeline into The Boot. Travis Mumphrey falls into the category. The Vols hosted him in February. It’s unclear just how much the Vols have been talking to him recently. The fit would be interesting. Mumphrey is a dual-threat who doesn’t play much under center in high school. It’s tough to get a feel for what the Vols value at this position. The staff brought in graduate transfer Keller Chyrst presumably because of his experience running a pro-style offense. There is something Helton has seen from Mumphrey that stood out, though.

Lance LeGendre: The Kansas commit is locked in on the Jayhawks for the time being, but Tennessee has a chance. The coaching staff also regularly talks with LeGendre, too. He was on campus in March and I’m told had a good time. LeGendre is another dual-threat prospect and is from New Orleans. Expect Tennessee to keep pushing for LeGendre, even though he’s committed.

Any cause for concern as Auburn receiver commit George Pickens visits elsewhere?

quote:

It’s natural for fans to worry about one of their commits, especially one who has has the recruiting trajectory of George Pickens.

The standout wide receiver commit from Hoover, Ala., pledged to Auburn last summer before many other big wigs caught on. Since then, he’s picked up offers from Georgia, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Michigan and several others. Pickens has made it clear he is likely to visit most, if not all, of these schools — many of which he’s already been to this spring.

It has to be nerve-racking as an Auburn fan.

But these offers and visits were something everyone around the Tigers program saw coming.

Pickens’ recruitment has ballooned through the camp circuit this spring. His stock is rising along with his ranking. That’s going to catch the attention of every program in the country when it comes to a 6-foot-5 receiver prospect.

But when I spoke with Pickens last month, he expressed his desire to visit other schools. In fact, when he committed last summer, he made it known it wasn’t a shut-down-the-recruitment decision.

Through all of it, however, Pickens has stayed consistent on his stance as a firm Auburn commitment. He just wants to have his fun and life experience. He deserves that.

On top of all that, few other schools will be able to offer Pickens what the Tigers can. He has a close relationship with wide receivers coach Kodi Burns and loves that Burns knows what it means to be a student-athlete at Auburn. Gus Malzahn and Chip Lindsey both coached his brother, Chris Humes, at Arkansas State and the high school level. The relationships on the Plains will be tough to beat.

And then there’s the friendship with quarterback commit Bo Nix. It’s real. It’s genuine.

It’ll be nearly impossible for a top wide receiver to turn down.

I didn't know that about his brother.
