LINK ]Khris Bogle committed to Alabama earlier this month at the All-American Bowl, opting for the Crimson Tide over Florida, Miami and Tennessee.

The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons product said he would consider using his final official visit to Florida, or possibly even Miami (Bogle can use another visit to UM since Manny Diaz took over as head coach), leaving the door open for a school to change his mind.

“Well this is my first time going through all of this,” Bogle’s mother, Octavia Bates, told BamaOnLine. “No one ever warned me about this. But, to me, all of this is a cutthroat environment, because coaches leave and go to other schools. I told him, you just have to forget about the coaches right now. I know they just hired some new coaches. I know they’re trying to fill the gap.”

Coaching changes have been a hot topic the last couple of weeks as the Alabama staff has seen significant turnover. Bogle’s secondary recruiter Tosh Lupoi took the Cleveland Browns defensive line coaching job. The Tide sent the 4-star edge rusher’s primary recruiter Joe Pannunzio along with new assistant Sal Sunseri — Bogle’s primary recruiter from his time with the Gators — to South Florida to visit on Monday.

Bates was not in attendance for the in-home visit on Monday as she was still traveling home from the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii. Of note regarding the new staff hires at Alabama, Bates says Charles Kelly has been recruiting the All-American since his time at Florida State. Kelly was his primary recruiter at Tennessee as well, so there’s longstanding relationship there.

This weekend, the plan is to take an official visit to Florida, which will be the last official visit on Bogle’s slate. Next weekend, the final weekend before National Signing Day, the family is considering an unofficial visit to Miami.

“I want him to go to the school that’s going to develop him the most,” Bates said of her preference. “I know any of the four schools are good schools. He has relationships with most of the coaches. But when it comes down to the football part and the development part, I just feel like Coach (Nick) Saban would be the go-to guy … just looking at his record.

"Tennessee and Miami, they’re fairly new head coaches; I don’t know much about UF’s head coach, so I can’t speak on that. That’s just how I feel — that Saban would be the one that would develop him for the next level. He wants to play on Sundays. That’s been the goal this whole time.”

With Feb. 6 just over two weeks away, looking at it right now, does Bates anticipate her son signing with the Tide? “I really don’t know,” she said. “I told him I want him to go for the school. Even this morning, we had a short conversation, I told him I want you to eliminate all the coaches and go for the school. So we’ll see.”

Note: Bogle took an OV to UF last weekend. This coming weekend, he's taking a 2nd OV to Miami. NCAA Bylaws allow a 2nd OV to a school if there is a HC change after the OV to that school.

LINK ]Ten teams that could make a huge splash on National Signing Day (247Sports | segments)
quote:

National Signing Day is nearly upon us. That statement in the past might’ve come with an exclamation or three. Now, it’s more of a mere formality.

The Early Signing Period is where the action happens on the college football recruiting calendar with 77 percent of FBS prospects having inked early this cycle. There are fewer flip watches than in the past, and all but seven members of the 247Sports Composite’s top 100 players are committed.

Yet … National Signing Day is not without intrigue. There are a number of high-profile players left on the board, including a pair of five-stars, who could swing class rankings and a program’s future.

As we bring back Thursday 10 as an offseason column, let’s look at 10 programs in position to make a splash on NSD.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

Alabama is trying to maintain and expand its No. 1 class.

In terms of the former, the Tide are hoping to hang onto Young and Williams, who will both visit LSU this weekend. Williams is considered a “soft commitment” and is on flip watch. However, the Tide are hoping to add a pair of top 50 prospects in Sopsher and To’oto’o. Alabama is trending in the Crystal Ball for both prospects.

If Alabama lands both or even either, it’d complete a stranglehold on the No. 1 spot. The Crimson Tide are already 14 points ahead of Georgia, which itself holds a 16-point lead on Texas for second place in the rankings. That’s the strength of Alabama's 2019 class.

Alabama is expected to have several big names on campus this weekend, the last chance the Crimson Tide will get to host recruits ahead of National Signing Day...

JERRION EALY, 5-STAR RB, FLOWOOD (MISS.) JACKSON PREP

The one-time Ole Miss commit reopened his recruitment earlier this month as it now looks as though Alabama and Clemson could be going head to head for the nation's No. 3 running back. Of course the Rebels and Mississippi State are still in the mix, but last week Nick Saban, Pete Golding and Karl Scott were in the Magnolia State visiting with the Under Armour All-American, and secured his final visit. Last spring, it appeared as though the Tide was gaining real momentum in its effort to flip Ealy from Ole Miss. However, after its resurgence for Trey Sanders and its addition of Keilan Robinson, things appeared to cool a bit. We'll see where the Tide stands coming out of the weekend. And remember in Ealy's case, he could end up playing professional baseball out of high school considering he's a top MLB Draft prospect.

JAQUAZE SORRELLS, 4-STAR DT, WINTER PARK (FLA.)

South Carolina was trending for Sorrells last summer before he took a visit to Tuscaloosa for the Champions Cookout in late July. Afterwards, the one-time UF pledge pushed back his Aug. 27 decision timeline. Heading into the weekend, Sorrells has a top three of Alabama, Penn State and South Carolina and the Gamecocks are still trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Alabama looks set on adding at least two more defensive linemen (that includes hanging onto UA commit Byron Young).

QUASHON FULLER, 4-STAR SDE, LEHIGH ACRES (FL) -- FSU COMMIT

Florida State fans were hoping the longtime Noles pledge would shut down his recruitment after officially visiting Tallahassee last weekend. He did not. The All-American plans to be in Tuscaloosa this weekend and has said the Tide is No. 2 in his recruitment. And while Fuller says it would take something "significant" to happen for him to change his mind on his nearly two-year long pledge to FSU, he called Alabama a "significant" place.

Even after getting signatures from 24 players during the early signing period, Alabama will likely add several more players to its 2019 recruiting class next week on National Signing Day.

Here are some recruiting notes with National Signing Day less than a week away:

— The Crimson Tide will host several visitors this weekend. The five players expected to take official visits to Alabama this weekend are five-star running back Jerrion Ealy, four-star inside linebacker Daniel Heimuli, four-star defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells, four-star defensive end and current Florida State commit Quashon Fuller and top-100 defensive lineman and current Mississippi State commit Nathan Pickering.

— Alabama would like to add at least two defensive linemen to the class — top-100 defensive tackle Byron Young, who has been committed to the Tide since July, and at least one other D-lineman. Ishmael Sopsher, the No. 5 defensive tackle and No. 47 overall prospect in this year’s class according to the 247 Composite, visited Alabama last weekend. It’s probably unlikely the Tide will be able to land Pickering, even with one of Pickering’s top recruiters for Mississippi State — Brian Baker — now working at Alabama. Earlier this week, after it became known that Baker was leaving Mississippi State for Alabama, Pickering tweeted, “The decision that was made doesn’t affect me or my decision. I’m still here 100%. #HailStateForever.”

— In addition to the defensive line, Alabama also wants to get another inside linebacker, especially with Mack Wilson moving on to the NFL, and possibly another tight end. The top target at inside linebacker is Henry To’oto’o, a top-50 player from California who took an official visit to Tuscaloosa last weekend. The main player to watch at tight end is Brett Seither, a 6-5, 230-pound three-star guy from Florida who was also in Tuscaloosa last weekend.

— It’s unclear if Alabama will be able to hold on to four-star defensive end/outside linebacker Khris Bogle, who committed to the Tide Jan. 5. After taking an official visit to Florida last weekend, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native reportedly got visits from the Miami staff Monday and Wednesday and is now reportedly set to take an official visit to Miami this weekend. Bogle’s high school coach, Matt DuBuc, told CaneSport.com this week that he wouldn’t be surprised if Bogle ends up signing with Miami. “The head coach (Manny Diaz) is a defensive guy," DuBuc said, "and I think Manny is going to map out how they’re going to use him and I think it’s always one of those positives when you’re recruiting a kid in that position where the head coach can also have a big role in the defense.”

— The belief in the recruiting world is that four-star Daphne cornerback Christian Williams, who committed to Alabama in April, probably won’t end up being a part of the Tide’s signing class. Williams took an official visit to Texas A&M last weekend and is set to visit LSU this weekend according to 247.

— Lastly, it’s apparently still possible that Alabama could add another offensive lineman to its class, even after signing five in December. Four-star Texas commit Javonne Shepherd visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. Shepherd is visiting Texas this weekend.

I don't know why but I feel really confident about us keeping our guys (except Williams) and getting our top targets. I think Feb. 6th is going to be a good day.

Not sure where this dude got his source, but he is saying that Bogle will decommit. Front runners are Miami, UF, and of all places Clemson. Calling bogus, but I would like some confirmation.

If it happens, then I don't think it shocks anyone. You could tell how undecided he was when he made the choice initially.

Hope he does well even if he doesn't choose the good guys

I just checked Bogle's timeline on 247. Clemson offered in Jan 2017 and it shows no visits to Clemson or from their staff. I've never seen Clemson mentioned with Bogle.

Eta: I posted the tweet on BOL. Hank doubts the guy's "sources" know what Bogle is going to do. Hank talks to his mom, including yesterday. Hank has been saying Miami appears to be the only viable threat and said he'll talk to Bogle and his mom following his Miami OV this weekend.

If Bogle is taking a 2nd visit to UM right before NSD, I don't love our chances. I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up at Miami, but maybe mom has some sway with him. Alabama is clearly the choice in terms of both development and winning at the college level but Miami will throw all the hype at him this weekend. Booze, parties, hot girls, the works. Hard for most 18 year old kids in the face of all that to make a rational business decision. We shall see.

That's the shitty thing about coaching turnover. We get punished because we have head coach stability, whereas a program like Miami can host prospects officially a second time if they visited while Richt was the coach.
