Louisiana S8 DNS’s think they are getting Young and apperantly we paid $350,000 for Trey Sanders. I wish I made the kind of money the person footing that bill does.

TEAMS WITH TOP SIGNEES:

Alabama, South Carolina, Oregon

The three defensive line positions have a variety of flavor at the top, with No. 1 weakside defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux heading to Oregon, top strongside defensive end Zacch Pickens heading to South Carolina and No. 1 strongside defensive end Antonio Alfano headed to Alabama.

The Tide are no strangers to landing elite defensive linemen, and it’s highly likely that Alfano will be counted on to step in and see the field early after a number of Tide linemen head to the NFL.

Landing a top defensive lineman is nothing new for South Carolina either, as the Palmetto State seems to churn out elite linemen on a yearly basis, the most famous of which was former No. 1 overall player Jadeveon Clowney.

Oregon hasn’t been in this position in quite a while, adding a five-star defensive lineman for the first time since Haloti Ngata signed with the school in 2002.

PROSPECT TO WATCH: Ishmael Sopsher

Ishmael Sopsher

There aren’t many elite linemen still on the market, and while Sopsher took a tumble in the rankings after struggling at the Under Armour Game in Orlando he’s still a priority for several schools, including Oregon and LSU. Most think he will stay in state and play for the Tigers, but he is a package deal with his older brother, Rodney, an unranked junior college player, and the Ducks just offered him as well. Alabama, Texas A&M and Ole Miss are also in the hunt for Sopsher, who will let his recruitment play out all the away until Signing Day. The school that lands him could make a major move in the Rivals.com team rankings.

TEAM TO WATCH: Alabama

A lot could change between now and signing day for the Tide, who also find themselves in a fight to keep commitment Khris Bogle in the fold. Bogle announced his commitment to Alabama at the All-American Bowl on Jan. 5, but he hasn’t closed the door on his recruitment. Bogle has renewed interest in Miami since the hire of Manny Diaz, and Florida is also very much in the mix. Alabama’s recent coaching turnover also hasn’t helped matters and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Bogle end up elsewhere. With Sophsher also still in play, the Tide aren’t going to have a quiet run up until Signing Day.

And he still won't be able to play dead in a low budget Western in 2020, either.

For some reason, they think that Young is being pushed out and told to look elsewhere. Not sure where that one is coming from because he is one of the top guys on our board. Serious disillusionment in that fan base.

PROSPECT TO WATCH: Henry To'oto'o

The top unsigned linebacker in America, To'oto'o is a priority for schools such as Tennessee, Oregon and Alabama. The Tide and Vols seem to be the major players, however, as it seems likely that the four-star prospect signs with one of those two programs.

TEAM TO WATCH: Alabama

Alabama is in the market for a linebacker and when the Tide want to make waves on the trail, it usually does just that. Saban is in pursuit of To'oto'o, the top uncommitted prospect at the position. The Tide will also bring California-based linebacker Daniel Heimuli for an official visit next month. Washington remains the favorite to land Heimuli as things stand, but it’s hard to ever be too certain when Alabama is involved.

2019 Polynesian Bowl: Top storylines (247Sports | embedded video)

quote:

HONOLULU – The 2019 Polynesian Bowl kicks off Saturday, Jan. 19, at 12 a.m. ET/7 p.m. HST on CBS Sports Network and players on both sides appear ready to take the field.

In its third rendition, the game will pit several of the best high school recruits in the country against each other — Team Mauka vs. Team Makai — inside Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium.

Forty-one players in the 247Sports Composite rankings are on the roster, including 15 of the top 100 prospects.

Composite five-stars Trey Sanders, a running back who signed with Alabama, and Ishmael Sopsher, a defensive lineman from Louisiana who has yet to come off the board, are among the expected participants.

Mike Bellotti, the winningest football coach in Oregon history and a College Football Hall of Fame inductee, will serve as head coach for Team Makai. Team Mauka will be coached by Jim Zorn, whose résumé includes 12 years as an NFL quarterback and 16 years as an NFL coach.

Haloti Ngata (Philadelphia Eagles) and Juju Smith-Schuster (Pittsburgh Steelers) will serve as the game's honorary captains.

There will also be three in-game announcements.

Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field four-star defensive back Noa Pola-Gates has a final three of Arizona State, Nebraska and USC, and took official visits to each of those programs prior to the early signing period.

McDonough School (Md.) four-star defensive tackle D'Von Ellies is also set to reveal his choice between Penn State and USC.

Lehi (Utah) Skyridge three-star lineman Logan Sagapolu, the top-rated center prospect in the West region, will announce between a top three of BYU, Oregon and Utah.

Let's take a look at some intriguing storylines heading into Saturday night's matchup:

TEAM MAKAI SKILLS

The skill positions are well covered for Team Makai, with Trey Sanders and Giles Jackson serving as the catalysts all week in practice. Stanford bound wideout Elijah Higgins has been a nuisance for defensive backs, USC commit Puka Nacua has been stretching the field and LSU signee Marcel Brooks (pictured) has served as a security blanket for future BYU quarterback Jacob Conover on underneath routes. Sanders and Jackson are a threat to score anytime they touch the ball, so look for Team Makai to get them involved often.

TEAM MAUKA FRONT

LSU signee Siaki Ika (pictured), who is headed to Baton Rouge next week, has earned the reputation as the funniest player on the roster but his play on the field has been no joke. The massive four-star defensive tackle from Salt Lake City (Utah) East spearheads a Team Mauka defensive front that also includes Washington bound Faatui Tuitele and unsigned prospect D'Von Ellies, among others. Tuitele has been solid all week and Ellies has consistently gotten into the backfield during drills.

WHICH PROGRAMS WILL BE BEST REPRESENTED?

With the Early Signing Period having passed, there are a number of players who not only committed early, but already signed. Washington leads the way with the most commits/signees in the game, with nine, including the aforementioned Tuitele and fellow Hawaiian Julius Buelow. Oregon and Stanford each hold seven commits/signees on the roster, Alabama and USC have five, LSU has four, and Oklahoma, Utah and Washington State each have three.

TEAM MAKAI MVP CANDIDATES

It's been difficult to find a player that has been enjoying the Hawaiian sunshine more than Florida commit Diwun Black (pictured) and he has not only been having a good time, but also showcasing his skills to the fullest. He's certainly a candidate to take home MVP honors on the defensive side given the way he has performed throughout the week. Alabama commit Khris Bogle, who has been all over the place in coverage and chasing ball carriers, could certainly challenge his Team Makai partner for the hardware. On offense, Trey Sanders has big-play ability and Jacob Conover has been the most consistent quarterback all week.

TEAM MAUKA MVP CANDIDATES

Taulia Tagovailoa (pictured) returns home to Hawaii for his final high school game before moving onto Alabama and has been the top choice at quarterback for Team Mauka all week, so you can bet the four-star prospect will be trying to put on a show at Aloha Stadium. Stanford bound running back Austin Jones has been very good in the same backfield, showing his shiftiness and burst. Milton Wright, who signed with Purdue last month, has been a top down-field target and should give the opposing secondary plenty to worry about.

Bogle not being contacted yet is crazy but also shows he’s not a position of need. We have plenty of edge guys in the pipeline. We’ll be fine either way. To’oto’to is the much bigger need and with Mack leaving that helps us. If we lose him we’ll still be fine.
