Top in-state defensive lineman DJ Dale’s relationship with Rodney Garner will drive Auburn’s chances
quote:
Top in-state DL breaks down Auburn interest
Among the top-15 ranked players in Alabama, there will be several Auburn-Alabama recruiting battles.
It’s been a well-established competition with 5-star guard Clay Webb. Those two in-state programs will fight it out similarly for prospects such as offensive lineman Amari Kight, cornerback Christian Williams and linebacker Vonta Bentley.
Perhaps the most competitive battle will be for defensive tackle DJ Dale — and it won’t only be Alabama and Auburn fighting.
Dale visited Auburn for a junior day earlier this spring and received rave reviews from the Tigers coaching staff. He’s been to Alabama on multiple occasions. But Dale is checking out as many programs as possible. He has been to Florida State and Tennessee, as well.
According to the 6-foot-2, 330-pound defensive tackle, it’s not a foregone conclusion he’ll stay in the Yellowhammer State.
“It’s not necessarily going to be Alabama or Auburn. It’s going to be wherever I have the best relationship with the coaches,” Dale told SEC Country.
With that said, both of the in-state schools have strong relationships with the 4-star prospect.
His bond with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner has blossomed this spring. Garner told Dale at junior day that his active hands and big frame reminded him of Derrick Brown. The message from Garner to Dale has been consistent since that visit. Dale is aiming to be on the Plains for the spring game this weekend.
“The atmosphere and the coaches stand out at Auburn. Coach Garner, he reminds me a lot of my coach I have right now in high school. He keeps telling me to enjoy the process. He loves my film, said I use my hands really well,” Dale said. “I don’t have any top schools right now, but both of the in-state schools are coming after it.”
Dale is staying patient with his approach.
In fact, he said he doesn’t see himself have a final decision by the end of summer, even though he expects to have taken several college visits by then.
“I don’t think I’ll have it before my senior season. I might commit during the season,” Dale said. “I might wait it out.”

Florida recruiting: Gators in contention for top-100 trio from Mississippi
quote:
Florida has signed just one recruit from Mississippi since 2003, but that could change in the Class of 2019.
First-year coach Dan Mullen and his staff have the Gators in contention for a trio of top-100 overall recruits from the Magnolia State — 5-star linebacker Nakobe Dean (Horn Lake, Miss.), 4-star defensive end Nathan Pickering (Seminary, Miss.) and 4-star athlete Diwun Black (Forest, Miss.).
Dean is ranked the nation’s No. 2 inside linebacker and No. 25 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. Florida wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales (area recruiter) and linebackers coach Christian Robinson have been pushing to get Dean on campus and he plans to visit in the future.
Dean named Florida on his top-15 list last month, but the Gators have ground to make up on Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He will trim his list to 7-to-10 schools in the coming weeks and hopes to make a decision on his birthday, Dec. 13.
Of the three targets, Florida’s chances appear to be best with Pickering. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound pass rusher likes the school because of its academic prestige and has a strong relationship with Mullen from his time at Mississippi State.
He also speaks with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and fits perfectly in his 3-4 scheme. Pickering is scheduled to make a two-day visit to Gainesville this weekend and will watch the scrimmage on Saturday.
The Gators made his top-15 list last month and he plans to cut it down to 10 this summer. Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State appear to be Florida’s biggest competition. Pickering is ranked the nation’s No. 4 strongside defensive end and No. 50 overall prospect.
Black committed to Mississippi State and Mullen was a big reason why. The nation’s No. 8 athlete kept his pledge through the coaching change, but decided to reopen his recruitment last month after visiting Ole Miss twice in two weeks.
The Bulldogs and Rebels are the teams to beat in Black’s recruitment, but the Gators have a shot because of his history with Mullen. He received an offer from Florida on Jan. 22 and plans to visit campus this spring.

Maybe the staff doesn't feel good about Dale or Sopsher?

Cheney is a lot smaller than those two.

Even if Bama takes Cheney, I think they still want Tuitele and Sopsher too. Dale might end up on the outside looking in tho.

I'm just waiting for Tuitele.
For me it's a matter of "when" not "if".

Tennessee picks up commitment from massive Alabama defensive tackle LeDarrius Cox
(SEC Country - Tennessee)
(SEC Country - Tennessee)
quote:
For the second week in a row, Tennessee has added to its 2019 class. The news became public on Wednesday afternoon when defensive tackle LeDarrius Cox announced his intention to play for the Vols. Cox wasn’t as expected of a commitment as tight end Jackson Lowe was Friday last week.
The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Cox fits perfectly into what Tennessee wants to do on the defensive side of the football. Coach Jeremy Pruitt is switching a 3-4 defense which requires a run-stopping defensive tackle.
The Mobile, Ala., native certainly has the size to lock down the middle of the defensive line. Finding a prospect with this sort of build was a point of emphasis for this staff.
Cox held offers Georgia, Nebraska and Ole Miss. His Georiga offer is pinned on his Twitter account which could indicate this recruitment might not be done yet.
Cox joins Jackson Lampley, Lowe and Te’Cory Couch as the other commits in the 2019 class. Though, Couch is thought to likely de-commit at some point because of a lack of relationship with the current staff.
Tennessee will still add defensive linemen in this class. The run-stopping defensive tackle role seems to be filled by Cox, though.
