COACH OF THE YEAR: Rodney Wells, Dr. Phillips (Orlando)
A defensive mastermind, Wells led the Panthers to a 13-2 record and the Class 8A state title, the first in program history. Recruiting question of the day: How solid is Alabama commit Quay Walker to Tide?
quote:
If there’s one thing we learned during the early signing period it’s if your verbal commits didn’t sign during the three-day window, they’re not 100 percent committed. There are extenuating circumstances such as poor academic standing. In 3-star tight end Michael Parker’s case, he’ll likely receive a blueshirt so he wasn’t able to sign during the early signing period.
But in 4-star linebacker Quay Walker‘s case, he’s just not 100 percent committed to the Tide. He’s still strongly considering Auburn and Georgia. It’s the Bulldogs, though, who look like a legitimate threat to flip Walker from Alabama.
SEC Country was told the day before the early signing period opened that UGA was trying to furiously rush his application into the school so it could have paperwork ready for him to sign that Wednesday. Walker ended up not making a decision, which is good for the Tide, in my opinion. I think if he would have signed last week it would have been with the Bulldogs.
Alabama definitely doesn’t want to lose his commitment. The coaching staff feels that Walker has the ability to play any of the linebacker positions in the Tide’s 3-4 defense. But ever since he committed to the Tide, he’s made it clear that his recruitment was still open.
It didn’t help Alabama that Jeremy Pruitt left for Tennessee. Walker told SEC Country that he would de-commit from Alabama if Pruitt left. He hasn’t de-committed, but it’s clear that both Auburn and Georgia have a chance to get him to flip.
We should have a better understanding of where Walker stands with the Tide this weekend as he’ll be in Orlando for the Under Armour All-America Game, where he’ll meet with the media. SEC Country will have a slew of reporters, myself included, in Orlando all week.

If anyone is watching the Kentucky-Northwestern game, they have PAC12 refs. We'll have PAC12 refs against Clemson.
They are garbage. Pure garbage

I cut it off after Snell's ejection.
fricking ludicrous.

Well, they called another personal foul on Kentucky for something. No one knows what. Then they called targeting and kicked a Northwestern guy out. It wasn't targeting. They are horrible.
Posted on 12/29/17 at 6:04 pm to TideSaint
What a ridiculous call. Snell did nothing to warrant that call. Refs should not help players up in the first place. That ref should be suspended.
Any ejection call should require automatic review, just like a targeting call does.
At a minimum, coaches should be able to challenge penalty calls and obviously bad no calls too, such as the no call today when the Wake DB tackled the Aggie WR while the ball was in the air. Even better, they should be reviewable the same as any other officiating call.
There's too much at stake to not have any means to correct erroneous penalty calls and no calls.

Nah. Reviewers watch every play and can halt play if needed. So can the on field officials. They just need to speed up the review process. We see it replayed on TV enough to make a decision quickly. It shouldn't take the reviewers 10 times longer like it often does. It's ridiculous.
