For me, I hated the white helmets when we occasionally used them in the 80's.

We offered Taulia before Tau even reported on campus last winter. At the time the (I think) 247 article said he wanted to commit on the spot but his parents said no (thought he was too young to make the decision). I think we were just his second offer (along with Hawaii I believe). Over a year has passed though - no clue on the individuals current feelings.

Absolutely spot on.Thats how I remember it especially the part about him wanting to commit and the parents having to hold him back because they thought he was too young and it was too early.

I doubt Bama will take two more receivers.
Meh. Idk about that. We lose Ridley, Foster, Sims. We need to at least replace those 3. We have Xavier Williams and Slade Bolden (could play RB).
Our starters next year are obviously Jeudy Ruggs Smith but outside those 3 we are thin. Townsend is probably up next. Marks and Kief are meh. Maybe Shavers is ok? Not sure.

We brought in replacements last year. Four in a class is a big class. Especially considering all of them "hit".
We already have Xavier Williams. Most likely we will add one more and be done.

What we're hearing on some high-profile commits who didn't sign
quote:
Only five programs ranked inside the Top 25 of the 247Sports Team Composite Recruiting Rankings signed all their commits during the Early Signing Period: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Clemson, Washington and Michigan State.
Some prospects couldn’t sign because they weren’t academically qualified or didn’t have a test score yet. But there are several who didn’t ink because they are going to continue going through the process.
Lets look at a few of these recruitments still up in the air.

I think the most wild one of the committed will be Houston (Texas) Lamar Top247 defensive tackle Bobby Brown, who committed to the Aggies in October but kept the lines of communication open with the likes of Oklahoma and Alabama. He decommitted from A&M on Dec. 20 and pulled the trigger for the Crimson Tide two days later.
Brown could have signed, but he didn’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t a few more twists and turns with the coveted Lone Star State recruit who ranks as the nation’s No. 13 defensive tackle per 247Sports.
I have a feeling I'm not going to be a big fan of Bobby Brown until he actually hits the field for us.

Alabama has had Top247 linebacker Quay Walker in the fold since June, but Auburn and Georgia are two programs that continue to catch the Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County standout’s eye. Tennessee is going to try and make a push too. I’m guessing Walker sticks with the Tide, but this will be one to watch.

I don’t expect Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin Top247 defensive tackle Coynis Miller to flip from Auburn but Tennessee will be in their swinging with the spatula. Jeremy Pruitt has a long-standing relationship with America’s most powerful interior defensive line recruit.
Well why couldn't he get him when he was at Alabama?

How many WRs does Bama carry? Looking over the roster, 9 return plus the two that already signed in Williams and Slade. 1 more would give you 12, 4 deep since your base formation is 3 WRs now. Idk how many of the 9 are scholarship players and how many are walk on/scout team.

Isn't Slade in New Orleans for that all-star game this week?
Is it going to be televised?

Yes. Left at 6am yesterday. They start practice today. I didn’t realize how many legit players there are in the game. Look at the roster and it’s all big school commits, all Power 5. He will play slot in the game.

I DM’d the bowl rep on Twitter. They said it would be on ESPN 3 and their YouTube Channel. I’ve searched Watch ESPN and can’t find it listed. It starts Friday at 6:30 Central.

With the early signing period in the books, let’s take a look at how each position coach is faring so far in recruiting the Class of 2018.
247Sports has a great recruiter ranking tool that rates how assistant coaches across the country are performing as recruiters. Much like player rankings, it’s not a perfect science because it’s based on the star rating of prospects and whether the coach is listed as the primary or secondary recruiter. In many cases, Alabama relies on multiple coaches as primary recruiters to pick up commitments, so it’s not a complete assessment of how assistants are doing.
At the same time, it is a solid indication — for the most part — of which assistant coaches are recruiting well and which need to step up their game. Here’s how Alabama’s assistant coaches stack up in the 247Sports national rankings and my take on each.
Brace yourselves, this isn't pretty

Where Alabama’s assistant coaches rank as recruiters
quote:
No. 7, outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi: There’s no surprise to see Lupoi rated as Alabama’s top-ranked assistant coach when it comes to recruiting. He has considered one of the best recruiters in all of college football for a few years now. In the 2018 class, Lupoi has been credited with getting commitments from 4-star Jack linebacker Cameron Latu, 4-star offensive tackle Tommy Brown, 4-star defensive tackle Bobby Brown and 4-star defensive end Stephon Wynn Jr. He also played a major role in landing 4-star Jack linebacker Jordan Davis, though he’s not his official recruiter. Lupoi can shoot up the rankings if Alabama lands 5-star cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart and 4-star offensive tackle Penei Sewell. The Tide are in strong contention for both prospects.

quote:
No. 15, defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley: Ansley has been a recruiting force for the Tide in his second season at Alabama. The DBs coach helped Alabama land junior college star Saivion Smith, 4-star cornerback Josh Jobe, 4-star cornerback Jalyn Amour-Davis, 4-star center Emil Ekiyor and 4-star linebacker Quay Walker. Ansley can crack the top 10 if the Tide land 5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell, 4-star quarterback James Foster, 4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross and 4-star linebacker JJ Peterson. And all of those touchdowns Henry Ruggs scored this year? You can thank Ansley’s relationship with the freshman receiver for that because he was Florida State-bound in the final few hours before he signed with Alabama until Ansley got in his ear.

quote:
No. 24, wide receivers coach Mike Locksley: Locksley is one of the best recruiters in the Northeast region of the country, and he landed two of the top recruits from that area this year in 5-star Jack linebacker Eyabi Anoma and 4-star defensive tackle Christian Barmore. He also played a big role in landing 4-star wide receiver Xavier Williams and 3-star running back Jerome Ford. Locksley still has some enormous targets left on the board, so don’t be surprised to see him ranked as one of the nation’s best recruiters come Signing Day. He’s still after 5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and 4-star wide receivers Jaylen Waddle, Justin Watkins and Jacob Copeland.
Now it starts to get ugly.

No. 130, tight ends coach Joe Pannunzio: It’s always difficult recruiting in your first season at a new school, but Pannunzio has turned out to be a solid recruiter for Alabama. He was Jordan Davis’ primary recruiter, and he recently told SEC Country on our Alabama recruiting show that the tight ends coach has been a great coach, mentor and friend to him. He also played a role in landing Jobe, Williams and 3-star punter Skyler Delong. Pannunzio is the primary recruiter for 5-star cornerbacks Campbell and Patrick Surtain Jr. He’ll have his hands full in the weeks leading up to February’s Signing Day.

quote:
No. 171, defensive line coach Karl Dunbar: Dunbar was 3-star athlete Slade Bolden’s primary recruiter while the secondary recruiter for Barmore, Wynn Jr. and Bobby Brown. He doesn’t receive much recognition on the recruiting trail, but he built strong relationships with guys such as LaBryan Ray and Isaiah Buggs last year. Down the stretch this year, he’ll play a role in trying to bring guys such as 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Friday and 3-star defensive end Malik Langham on board.
