Ishmael Sopsher will more than likely come down to Alabama and LSU. He is from the same school as Devonta Smith.

It appears Florida State has jumped Alabama as the leader for Owen Pappoe.

Some initial observations from my side:

- Deep defensive end class.

- The state of Alabama looks very, very weak.

- The state of Mississippi looks like it will be deep.

- Not a lot of DT talent. We need to load up this year.

The latest edition of the Top247 for the 2019 class has been released. The Sunshine State is well represented as you would expect. There are 37 recruits that attend high school in Florida that made the cut.

Powerhouse IMG Academy, with there ability to draw top-flight recruits from across the country, leads the way with six players currently on the list.

Defensive end Nolan Smith, a Georgia commit and transplant from the Peach State, is the highest rated recruit at IMG Academy in 2019 with a lofty No. 4 overall ranking. Running backs Noah Cain, a Texas native, and Trey Sanders, an Alabama commit that hails from Port St. Joe, Fla., sit at No. 22 and No. 39 in the nation’s respectively. Cain is really high on the Miami Hurricanes early in the process, but LSU is also considered to be in the mix as well.

The remaining Ascenders check in the Top247 at No. 45 with wide receiver Cameron Coleman, originally from St. Louis, Mo., No. 77 with offensive tackle Evan Neal, and No. 193 with linebacker Charles Thomas, another originally from the state of Georgia.

The Florida Gators three-man 2019 class all currently rank inside the Top247. Safety Jaleel McRae is ranked the highest at No. 43 overall in the country. While defensive end Jaquaze Sorrells checks in at No. 183 and recent wide receiver pledge Frank Ladson debuts at No. 196.

Florida State currently has one in-state commit inside the Top247, and that’s defensive end Mike Morris at No. 150.

Lakeland High School is once again produce elite level talent at a high rate. Tight end Keon Zipperer, offensive guard Deyavie Hammond, and defensive end Latrell Jean all hail from the Florida power and rank No. 74, No. 108, and No. 215 respectively. The Florida Gators are in great shape for Zipperer and Hammond currently.

The same is happening at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University as well. No. 38 Josh Sanguinetti, a safety, No. 110 Kenny McIntosh, a running back, and No. 173 Tyler Scott, another safety, all will team up this fall for this former power. Of the group, McIntosh is considered an early Miami lean at this time.

A pair of elite corners from Palm Beach County rank inside the nation’s top-100. Former Miami commit and current Palm Beach Central star Akeem Dent is considered the nation’s No. 5 overall recruit. While Benjamin School’s Kaiir Elam, the son of former NFL safety Abe Elam, ranks No. 79. Dent is still considering the Hurricanes, but look out for the Florida Gators in this recruitment. Elam is hoping to land offers from Ohio State and Florida in the future.

Continues to be the case. I don't understand it. Population has continued to trend up, but the talent seems less noticeable than a decade or more ago.

It's early, but the 18 and 19 classes certainly leave a lot to be desired.

There may be some guys who aren't on anyone's radar, like LaBryan Ray and Henry Ruggs last year, who will blow up after good Junior and Senior seasons, but it isn't looking good right now.

How good is Justyn Ross? Say, on a scale from Kendall Kelly to Julio Jones...

He's good. Nowhere near Julio, but good.

Then again, no one is as good as Julio.

LSU OL commit Kardell Thomas told me he plans to visit Alabama this summer. The 2019 recruit is solid to LSU but wants to get a closer look at Bama and meet with the staff.

One name to know for Alabama fans is Quantavius Ke'shun Brown, a 2019 safety/outside linebacker from Montgomery (Ala.) Carver.

The up-and-coming prospect visited Tuscaloosa earlier this week for practice.

“It went good,” Brown told BamaOnLine. “They showed me a lot of things in what they can offer and what type of education I’d be able to get. They showed me how their practice runs, and how quick and intense it’ll be.”

At 6-foot, 205 pounds, Brown can be used a number of different ways.

“They want me to play Star on defense, but I’m a versatile player,” Brown said. “I can play a little bit of outside linebacker too.”

Being from Carver, Brown has a longstanding with Tide linebacker Mack Wilson, as well as defensive backs coach and Montgomery recruiter Derrick Ansley.

“I like DA, he’s a cool guy,” Brown said. “He has his fun moments, but he also knows when to be serious with it. He treats you like a friend, but an athlete too at the same time. He knows what type of people we are down here in Montgomery and all that.

“Coach (Nick) Saban just told us like what de we do during summer time. Do we run track? Just making sure that we’re active and all that.”

Alabama has yet to offer, but that could change soon.

“They want to come to my spring game and one of my practices,” Brown said.

The Brown family is Alabama fans, so an eventual offer would be a special one.

“It would mean a whole lot,” Brown said. “It’d make me work hard and stay focused. In the future, it’d be a place I’d plan on going.”

Brown does not yet hold offers but is being recruited by a number of programs.

Justyn Ross says Derrick Ansley and Kodi Burns (Auburn) are the two coaches recruiting him the hardest.

Standout 2019 Dunham cornerback prospect Derek Stingley Jr. has withdrawn his verbal pledge from LSU, and will re-open his recruitment.

The four-star prospect committed to LSU shortly after receiving his offer from the Tigers last summer.

A lot has happened over those 10 months: LSU replaced its head coach and some staff members. Stingley has seen an influx in attention from other programs. But perhaps most importantly--he is taking more of a seasoned approach to the recruiting process.

"After talking it over with my family and God, I just felt that taking a step back and reevaluating things was the best option for me," Stingley said.

"I am extremely humbled by this whole experience. I was so excited when I first received the offer from LSU and the chance to play with Coach (Corey) Raymond that I didn't really look at the long-term picture. I committed before my sophomore year of high school. I still have two whole years left. I just want to make the right decision for my future and I thought this was the only way to do that with a clear head."

Stingley, a 3.8 GPA student at academically challenging Dunham Academy, put a lot of thought into this decision. A major piece of his support system are his parents Derek and Natasha Stingley. This decision was tough for the rising star, but their strength helped him stand strong in his convictions.

"My parents have been great through this whole thing," Stingley Jr. said. "They would have supported me either way. And I needed that. This decision was harder to make than actually committing. LSU, the fans and coaches--everyone has been so good to me. I am blessed to have the opportunities I have, and I owe it all to God and my parents."

As for what's next for the newly available prospect, well, taking things slow is all that is on the agenda for now.

"The whole purpose of my decision to decommit was so I can see things with a clear mind, take my time and remove the emotion from my decision," he said. "I will take things slow this time around. I am looking at some camps around the region.

"I will get to know the coaches that are recruiting me from other programs better. It will allow me to see what the best fit is both on and off the field. This decision will affect the rest of my life. It's supposed to take time. LSU will always be high on my list, that's for sure."

From a guy on BOL:

quote:

Never had any insider info and don't post much, but I have some news to share. Alontae Taylor out of Manchester Tennessee is headed to T-town with someone I am close to. The person I am close to was his little league baseball coach. His little league coach is a huge bama fan and is still very close to Alontae's family. He called me up and said "you aren't gonna believe this but I got a call from Alontae asking me to take him down to see coach Saban. Alontae said I remember you always wearing that straw hat like Saban during practice and I want you to go with me to meet him." He is a great kid and def the type of high character kid Saban loves. I will let you guys know how the visit goes. RTR!
