I heard from a buddy that is in the know that he has had a very good last two weeks of practice and has earned some playing time, TIFWIW

I didn’t mean to downvote you. I fat fingered it. Anyway I hope you’re right that would be most helpful!

Some guys just come along a little more slowly than others. I imagine he is under some immense pressure as well. How many kids are playing at the same school that their father did and just so happens to be the career tackles leader in that schools' history? So many of us, myself included, likely expected Ben to just step in and be lights out like his old man was from day 1. I coached with a guy that played HS ball with Wayne at Gordo HS. His nickname was "Joe Pound!" He wasn't any ordinary Joe playing ball and that when he hit you, he POUNDED you!! This same guy played in the secondary and he said he "only had 20-30 tackles his entire career" because he played on the level behind Wayne!! I think Wayne's tackle totals are around 385!!!

Ben Davis getting playing time?

Goodness. We'd better hope not. Unless he's had a historic turnaround in terms of effort and motivation.

Would make the NFL as a defender with his size and athletic ability.

It isn't based on speculation in this case. "Questioning" isn't the right word. "Stating" is more accurate. Hopefully it's a thing of the past, though. I've not heard anything new in the last few weeks.

I would say that it wouldn’t be the first time the light came on for a player.

Think about it this way:

If you’re working in the mail room at a company, you’re probably not putting forth as much effort in your job as you would if you heard that they were looking at you for a possible promotion. You’d kick it into gear.

Playing time is a huge motivator. Before the pathway to playing time was muddled, now it’s clear.

I'm just saying he is in his 2nd year. No need to trash him. Reuben didn't start until his junior year even tho he was a beast on special teams.

I wish our fan base in general would chill on the rush judgments.

He might need immediate playing time as a motivator. Fine.

We all want our players to be intrinsically motivated, but that’s not always fair. Were you completely intrinsically motivated at 19 or 20?

Absolutely. We've had several players that the light bulb came on a few years later for. CNS has been very good with that. Maybe it will in his case. Who knows?

Chatta,

If Copeland looks to be a non-qualifier, any idea where we turn next?

Is a 3rd WR even needed in this class?

Losing Ridley, Sims, and Foster. Someone like Kief could graduate and transfer. I think Alabama definitely needs to sign 3 WRs.

A coach? No. A former player that speaks to current staff? Yes. And also a friend that knows and has fairly recently spoken to family members.

This information isn't exactly secretive. It's kind of been out there for a while in the public domain to an extent.

No need to argue about it. It was what it was. Maybe that's no longer the case. I hope it isn't. But up until recently, at least the thought of him seeing the field in game action in an important situation would be cause for great concern.

Personal opinion is that we will look towards TN commit Alontae Taylor.

I’d rather we spend that position on DBs and Defensive line. Wish we would turn up the heat on Isaac Taylor-Stuart

Reuben's issues were never about motivation or work ethic. They were about A)not knowing the defense, and 2)Constant stingers from lowering his head and injuring his neck when he would make a tackle.
