I know I pay attention to rankings to much, But Jarren Williams is rated at 202 I believe. There must be some kind of knock on him. I know I read previously that Daboll was really high on him as opposed to others. Now what about the Ohio st. commit?

Andres Fox ‘pretty set’ in his decision

AUBURN, Ala. — Andres Fox likes to keep things fairly close to the vest.

The Mobile Christian (Ala.) defensive lineman speaks quietly and promptly when he conducts interviews with reporters. It keeps him from revealing too much about his recruitment, and quite frankly, it speeds up the process of dealing with the media.

That’s why, when we chatted with Fox following the Auburn-Ole Miss game, the following comment created a moment of surprise.

“I’ve kinda got an idea of where I want to go. I’m pretty set,” Fox said. “I’d say it’s a silent commitment.”

Fox said he told the selected coaching staff “about a month ago.”

According to Fox, there aren’t many people that know.

It’s the family close to him and the coaching staff who he is silently committed to. Those are the only people fully in the know. And that’s how Fox intends to keep it — for a while. Despite his confidence in his decision, Fox likely won’t announce his decision until National Signing Day.

Fox visited Arizona earlier this year, but he claims it’s still the same four schools involved: Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Stanford.

He’s visited Arizona, Alabama, Auburn and Stanford so far this season. Fox would like to make it to LSU in the near future.

Of Auburn, Fox is impressed by the Tigers’ defensive line and Rodney Garner’s willingness to rotate in young defensive players.

“It would mean I’d have a chance to come in and play early if I were to do what I got to do,” Fox said. “I thought the team did good, the defense. With the offense, they looked like they can win an SEC championship.”

As for communication, little has changed.

Fox still hears from Rodney Garner and Travis Williams each about twice a week. The staff regularly sends him edits wishing him luck or congratulating him before or after his Mobile Christian games.

He’ll take other visits, as well, but Fox plans to be back at Auburn for the Georgia and Alabama games.

After his most recent trip, Fox feels like he’s a good match for the Tigers defense.

“I’m a perfect fit,” he said.

That’s the extent of what you’ll get from Fox. But I know, for most of you, that’s not enough. You want the juice.

Who is Fox silently committed to?

Let me preface with some transparency: This is more speculation and tea-leaves-reading than anything else. Most of this hunch is based on conversations I’ve had with Fox dating back to January.

I expect it to be Auburn.

Since the beginning of the process, Fox has always been most comfortable with the Tigers and their coaching staff. Back in the spring, Fox said to me more than once that he felt like ending up at Auburn made a lot of sense. On top of that, Kevin Steele, Garner and Williams laid out a specific plan for Fox’s growth and development early on.

I’d also like to go back to what Garner said at assistant coach media day. He said Auburn was close to landing another commitment, a guy he felt could start outside and end up inside. That was about two months ago, and Fox said his silent commitment came “about a month ago,” so the timeline matches up some.

There have been murmurs about LSU and Stanford in the past. Obviously Alabama’s pull will be hard to pass up, but Auburn has remained as a constant at or near the top for the entirety of Fox’s process. So I stand by what I’ve suggested since early spring: I think Fox will choose Auburn.

With that said, four months between now and National Signing Day is a long time to hold off teams such as Alabama, LSU and Stanford. And the same can be said for Auburn if my silent-commitment speculation is off base.

Friday was a good day for Kentucky quarterback commit Jarren Williams. He led Central Gwinnett High School (Ga.) to a 59-0 win — and was named homecoming king at halftime.

It was another banner night for Williams. He was 13-for-17 through the air for 213 yards and 3 touchdowns. The quarterback rushed for another 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. Central Gwinnett moved to 5-2 after the blowout win.

Williams continues to pile up numbers that back up his status as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class. He’s the 206th-ranked overall prospect, according to 247Sports composite rankings. Williams was invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January.

He’s Kentucky’s second-highest ranked commit behind 4-star offensive guard Marquan McCall.

Williams visited Alabama last weekend, but remains committed to Kentucky. When SEC Country visited Williams in Lawrenceville, Ga., he said he was firm with Kentucky, but still listening to other schools. In a more recent check-in, Williams’ father, Anthony Williams, said Alabama, South Carolina and LSU were the schools still in contact with his son.

Here are Williams’ highlights from Friday night:

Coynis Miller days away from commitment

Alabama, Auburn or Florida will land one of the nation’s best defensive tackles this week.

Coynis Miller, a 4-star DT from Birmingham, Ala., is scheduled to reveal his college choice Friday with a commitment video from AL.com. He plans to sit down with his parents in the coming days and decide on a school.

“It’s just going to be wherever I feel like going — whatever I want to see the most,” Miller told SEC Country. “I’m just getting a last feel for schools before I make my decision. I’ve talked to my family a little more about it. So, sometime next week, I should have my decision made.”

Miller said his father is an Alabama fan and his mother roots for Auburn, but both parents support him going to Florida.

“They told me that if I picked Florida that they were going to make that drive every week. They’re just really supportive and I believe them,” Miller said when asked about the distance factor.

“I try to ask them questions, but they really just tell me that it’s my decision. We want you to go this school, but we’re not going to be the ones out there playing.”

Recruiting insider: Auburn hosts most crucial visitors since 2017 season started

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn had another successful on-field performance. From an off-field recruiting standpoint, it was probably the best weekend yet.

Here are my biggest takeaways from the morning and afternoon of recruiting.

4-star DT Coynis Miller, Birmingham, Ala.

- Coynis Miller made his last pre-commitment game visit to Auburn-Ole Miss rather than Florida-LSU. While he didn’t want to overplay it, Miller admitted it plays in the Tigers’ favor that they are receiving the last game trip before the Oc. 14 announcement.

- Miller will do a commitment video with AL.com. He’s already filmed it — minus the ending. He’ll put the finishing touches on that sometime at the end of next week.

- He says Florida still leads, but “it’s close, real close.”

- Miller laughed when asked if commits had been recruiting him hard throughout the day. Needless to say, Asa Martin and Shedrick Jackson were in his ear for most of the game.

- Even when Miller announces, don’t be surprised to see him take visits to the schools he didn’t choose. He wants to enjoy the remainder of the process.

- As for my projection, I’m sticking with Auburn until I have a good reason to think otherwise.

Other notes

- Offensive line commit Jalil Irvin made sure Hill knew he was wanted in this class by the rest of the offensive linemen. Irvin said Hill is a tough one to read, but the Tigers are certainly “up there.” As for Dylan Wonnum, a close friend, Irvin thinks it could go either way between Auburn and South Carolina.

- 4-star receiver Justyn Ross was back for his second visit in as many weeks. Not much new to report here, other than he was spending a lot of his time with fellow receiver target Anthony Schwartz.

- Speaking of Schwartz, I haven’t spoken with him yet, but will try to have more on him over the next day or two. He does plan to stay the night. Don’t count the Tigers out of this one even though Florida seems to have a major edge.

- Joey Gatewood, Seth Williams, Saivion Smith and Quay Walker didn’t make the trip. Walker wanted to go to FSU-Miami instead. Personally, I can’t blame him for wanting to see that one. Gatewood wanted to make it, but his late game last night didn’t set up well with the 11 a.m. CT kickoff in Auburn.

- 5-star 2019 offensive lineman Clay Webb was back again. He hung out with Herb Hand for a while before the game. He also got a chance to hangout postgame with his high school teammate KJ Britt.

- Quindarious Monday, Shedrick Jackson, Josh Marsh, Jalil Irvin and Asa Martin were the commits spotted at the game. It was Monday’s first game visit, and he was blown away by the experience.

Making the case: Coynis Miller

quote:

Rivals250 defensive end Coynis Miller has decided he will end his recruitment and commit on Saturday. Florida, Auburn and Alabama have all been recruiting the Birmingham native and all are hoping to hear their name called this weekend.

In advance of Saturday’s announcement, we gathered three Rivals publishers to make the case for the school they cover, and then Rivals Recruiting Director Mike Farrell issues a final verdict.

THE CASE FOR FLORIDA

When it comes to Miller, if you are a Florida fan you probably have mixed emotions. Yes, publicly he is saying that Florida leads, but he has only stepped foot in Gainesville once, and that was for a camp setting. While he has been to Auburn and Alabama twice already this season on game day, he has yet to step foot inside the Swamp for a game.

Plus, regardless of what is said, you can never feel overly confident about getting a top tier kid out of the Yellowhammer State when Alabama and Auburn make him a priority. Having said that, what is playing favorably for Florida is the fact that the Gators have made him feel like more of a priority from day one and in doing so he has built a very good relationship with UF defensive line coach Chris Rumph.

The Gators and Tigers have held the top two spots for roughly the last two months with Florida holding the slightest of leads.

When Rivals analyst Chad Simmons spoke with Miller on Sunday evening, he stated the Gators were still on top. But with him having taken two visits this season to see Auburn, two to see Alabama and none to see Florida, that lead would have to be tenuous, if it is actually there at all.

Remember, Florida once was the clear cut leader for Miller's good friend Asa Martin as well. So, if it plays out, and the Gators land him on Oct. 14, then they have to sweat out him taking his visits in order to hold on to him until Signing Day.

Gotta admit im finally starting feel sort of pessimistic about this recruiting class (after telling others to be patient all summer). I still believe in Saban and that we can flip some players get some surprises, but usually we are trending with more top notch players, at least it seems. If you had to make a guess today who do you think we would finish with??

THE CASE FOR AUBURN

Auburn has several things working in its favor with Miller, none more important than Rodney Garner. The Tigers’ defensive line coach and Miller have a long-standing relationship that dates back to Miller’s sophomore season. Auburn was the first SEC school to offer Miller and second overall (Bowling Green was the first). Miller has visited Auburn more than any other school; he made yet another visit on Saturday. Although he claims Florida still leads both Auburn and Alabama, the Tigers have the best chance to change that and they will before Saturday’s announcement. Oh, and one more thing: Miller’s “brother” and former teammate, TD Moultry, is a freshman at Auburn. That can’t hurt.

THE CASE FOR ALABAMA

There has been a steady amount of attrition on the defensive front for the Crimson Tide in the last few years. Jonathan Allen and Dalvin Tomlinson were taken in the first two days of the 2017 NFL draft. Daron Payne is projected as a first-rounder in the 2018 draft class. Alabama has developed an elite amount of talent on the defensive front. The numbers are thin at the position. Miller has been one of Alabama's top in-state, and overall defensive targets from the start of his recruitment. Miller would have an opportunity to play early in Tuscaloosa. Alabama is behind Florida and Auburn heading into his decision. Expect the Crimson Tide to continue recruiting him no matter where he announces Saturday.

THE VERDICT

Call it a gut feeling, but for a kid from Birmingham who has mentioned having a great connection with the staff and watching the way the defense has played and how they are developing their younger guys up front, he makes an in-state decision and picks Auburn over Alabama. I know he has mentioned Florida, but in the end he stays in state and Auburn wins out.

Tanner McKee took his visit to Texas this past weekend and it was definitely a memorable one, a trip that the four-star will remember as he looks to make his decision.

The Corona (Calif.) Centennial had a lot of positive things to say about the Longhorns, the coaching staff and the overall environment in Austin especially after an overtime win over Kansas State.

And since McKee will be taking a two-year Mormon mission after high school, which quarterbacks commit this recruiting cycle does not really matter in his decision-making process.

“Visit was amazing,” McKee said. “Had a lot of fun. Game was great and the atmosphere was awesome. Spent a lot of time with coach (Tom) Herman and (Tim) Beck. Great guys. Great staff.”

Having the opportunity to sit down with Herman and the coaching staff to discuss how they envision using him in the offense was important to McKee, rated as the third-best pro-style quarterback in the country and No. 71 overall. He's the only pro-style quarterback among the top 18 in that group who remains uncommitted.

“They are good guys who are concerned about making me a better person as well as a better football player,” McKee said.

“Family is big in their program.”

Texas has four-star quarterbacks Cameron Rising from Newbury Park, Calif., and Casey Thompson out of Newcastle, Okla., committed in its 2018 recruiting class but that won’t influence McKee since he will be taking his mission.

As for upcoming visits, the four-star quarterback from Corona Centennial still plans to see Washington, Stanford, Alabama and BYU presumably before making a decision. He recently took an unofficial visit to UCLA that also went well.
