The Nix era at Pinson Valley is off to a marvelous start.
Quarterback Bo Nix, an elite recruit in the class of 2019, threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score in the Indians’ 47-13 season-opening romp at McAdory.
He came with his father Patrick Nix from Scottsboro when the elder Nix was hired as Pinson Valley’s head coach.
Pinson Valley scored on its first three possessions. Nix threw touchdown passes of 33 and 25 yards to Demarion Holloman, 10 yards to Dilan Henderson and 30 to Orion Morris.
“It’s not a good game for Bo and I, it’s a good game for Pinson,” Patrick Nix said. “For the players, I’m very proud of the way they played tonight and the effort they gave. I’m very proud of the way they’ve worked all the way since February when I got there to get us to this point. It’s one game. One game doesn’t make a team at all, so we’ve got to continue to build and continue to grow.”
Bo Nix, a four-star recruit with a top eight of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State and Florida State, completed 25 of 35 passes for 290 yards with no interceptions.
"He can do a little bit of everything," McAdory coach David Powell said. "He can throw it and run it. He reads all the coverages and can make every throw. He’s a great talent."
Pinson Valley won eight games last year, reaching the second round of the playoffs. The Indians are filled with playmakers and instantly become a Class 6A state championship contender with Nix leading the way.
His playmakers did most of the work on three of the four touchdown passes, making McAdory defenders miss and racing into the end zone. His fourth scoring pass came in the fourth quarter and it was the 25-yard pass to Holloman where he hit him in stride down the right sideline.
“We have a lot of options at the playmaking positions and that’s what makes us good,” Patrick Nix said. “We have a lot of really good players.”
Nix can run, but won’t have to much. He scored on a 15-yard scamper on Pinson Valley’s second drive. His only down moments came in the third quarter when he threw four straight incompletions, but this came after a touchdown pass was called back for holding.
“Some good, some bad,” Patrick Nix said. “He did some good things early and at the end, didn’t do quite as well as I would have liked him to have done.”
McAdory was down 20-6 late in the second quarter when it stopped Pinson Valley on downs, but the Indians scored two plays later when Raymond Womack and Joel Parker forced a fumble of McAdory quarterback Ethan Wade and DeMarco Harris recovered in the end zone.
“We definitely are inexperienced and it showed,” Powell said. “We made a lot of mistakes. I’m not taking anything away from Pinson. They have a great team. We missed some tackles and some opportunities in the first half.”
McAdory is at Dallas County next week and Pinson Valley hosts Ramsay.

Hewitt-Trussville junior quarterback Paul Tyson threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns - all in the first half - to lead the Class 7A No. 4 Huskies to a 49-10 exhibition victory over Pell City in the final game of the AHSAA Champions Challenge at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl on Friday.
Tyson completed 11 of his 12 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the opening quarter. Logan Pitts (34 yards), Elliot McElwain (21 yards) and Malachi Moore all snagged passes for scores, while Lee Reagan added a second-quarter touchdown catch. Tyson ended his night 15-for-18 passing and did not play after halftime.
Moore joined Antonio Reed and Sean Jackson with rushing touchdowns for Hewitt-Trussville, which opens its regular season next Friday at home against Callaway of Jackson, Miss.
Pell City's Maleek Robinson caught a 13-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter for the Panthers’ only score. Pell City hosts its season opener next week against Childersburg.

This is no surprise about Tuas lil brother. There has been a lot of hype around him and his passing ability since well before they left Hawaii.
This is why I'm not worried about who signs in this years class. Several good ones right around the corner.
There is also a lot of positive news about Mac Jones from Camp.
This is the best QB situation of my lifetime at Bama right now.

Needs to grow. He can be great, but he's even shorter than Tua right now.

Alabama’s Class of 2018 has 10 commitments with four months remaining until recruits can sign a National Letter of Intent.
With those 10 slots filled, the Crimson Tide are almost halfway finished with their class. Nick Saban said Alabama can sign only 22 players in the 2018 class because the Crimson Tide had three players on a delayed enrollment plan in the 2017 class: Jarez Parks is a grayshirt and Hunter Brannon and Joseph Bulovas are blueshirts.
Alabama will likely have more than half of its class filled by the time the season rolls around, which is where the Crimson Tide staff expected to be by the Florida State game Sept. 2 in Atlanta.
Here’s a glance at where things stand for the 2018 class:

Where Alabama’s class ranks
Alabama’s 2018 class is ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 10 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports composite. Seven of the Tide’s 10 commits are 4-star recruits. Eight of them will play in either the Under Armour All-America Game, U.S. Army All-American Bowl or the Polynesian Bowl in January. The Tide have the third-highest average star rating in the 2018 class, as they are behind only Ohio State and Texas. This class will be elite come signing day, though it may fall short of the No. 1 class, which would be the first time in seven years.

Alabama missed on 4-star running back Asa Martin, who committed to Auburn over the Crimson Tide. In the end, Martin felt like the Tigers’ depth chart was more favorable than the Tide’s.

5 top targets
quote:
5-star quarterback Tanner McKee, Corona, Calif.
Of the elite quarterbacks in the 2018 class, McKee makes the most sense for Alabama to sign because he’s effectively a 2020 recruit. After graduating from Centennial High School, McKee will do a two-year LDS mission. That means the young depth chart currently in Tuscaloosa won’t matter to him. McKee will take an official visit to Alabama in November for the LSU game.

5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Campbell is Alabama’s top cornerback target, which is important because the Crimson Tide need several at the position this year after signing zero in the 2017 class. The nation’s No. 3 corner visited Tuscaloosa on July 24, and sources inside the program say Alabama hit a home run on that trip.

5-star Jack linebacker KJ Henry, Clemmons, N.C.
Henry recently released a top 5 and Alabama made the cut. His recruitment is shaping up to be an Alabama-Clemson race. Both schools feel confident where they stand with Henry.

4-star linebacker JJ Peterson, Moultrie, Ga.
Peterson has been Alabama’s top linebacker target, and it should be a matter of when and not if he’s going to commit to the Crimson Tide. His coach at Colquitt County is Rush Propst, who is very close with Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross, Phenix City, Ala.
Ross is Alabama’s No. 1 wide receiver target. His recruitment should come down to the Crimson Tide, Auburn and Clemson. ‘Bama feels confident it will land the in-state prospect.
