Alabama's pursuit of four-star cornerback Nadab Joseph got a little bit easier on Thursday, as the Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic product decommitted from LSU.

Joseph earned an offer from the Crimson Tide staff during June's camp. Something he said gave him something to think about in terms of his commitment status with the Tigers. He then returned to Tuscaloosa in July.

"They basically let me know I'm the guy they want," Joseph told BamaOnLine following his most recent visit to Alabama.

At 6-foot-1.5, 180 pounds, Joseph is rated the No. 24 cornerback and the No. 225 overall player in the country.

LSU lost a big-time recruit on Thursday, when Florida defensive back Nadab Joseph decommitted from LSU, following a run of summer visits and renewed interest in other programs.

The 6-feet-2, 180-pounder committed to LSU last year, but has been rather flimsy in his verbal pledge in recent months. Alabama, Florida State and Georgia are three schools considered to be a major threat to land his signature, with the possibility of rejoining LSU's class likely to dwindle down each passing day.

Ranking Louisiana's top LB recruits over the last 5 years
quote:

No. 7 Tim Williams, University Lab, 2013

Williams is another prospect who saw his grade and ranking move around during his prep career, with just as many questions about his overall game as there was potential for me. He was always lightning quick off the ball, but the lack of passion and inconsistently holding the point of attack held me back of a really lofty final grade on him. Williams went on to Alabama to become one of the SEC's most feared pass rushers.

No. 1 Dylan Moses, University High, 2017

Moses played his senior year at IMG Academy in Florida, but Moses was a Louisiana native, and remained the top-ranked prospect on my list from his freshman year on, regardless of position. He didn't quite progress at linebacker the way I anticipated, so his grade of 10, which is rare to come by in my system, was downgraded to a 9 following his junior season. Nevertheless, he was the highest-ranked linebacker to enter my database since working at NOLA.com in 2012.

He doesn't have Chris Allen in his top 10, but has a kid who still has 2 years of high school left and two 2018 kids that are committed to LSU.

College football recruiting has now turned to the Class of 2020.

National website 247sports released its initial ranking of the top 100 players in the Class of 2020, which features players entering their sophomore season of high school football, and three Alabama players are included.

The state's top-rated 2020 player is Hewitt-Trussville wide receiver Dazalin Worsham, who transferred from Gardendale to Hewitt earlier this year. Worsham is rated No. 46 in the 247sports ranking.

Worsham, listed at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, already has offers from South Carolina, Ole Miss, N.C. State and Duke, among others.

SEC schools South Carolina and Ole Miss offered Worsham this spring. He's also earned offers from NC State, Duke, Maryland, Troy, UAB, Southern Miss and Jacksonville State.

Fultondale quarterback Jayson Jones is Alabama's next-highest prospect at No. 77, and the list projects him as a wide receiver. "He's electric in the open field," Fultondale coach Richie Busby said at Birmingham high school media day last month.

Jones has emerged as Fultondale's best offensive prospect since ArDarius Stewart, who starred at Alabama and is now with the New York Jets.

The last of the three Alabama players is Lanett's Kristian Story, at No. 81. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder is listed as an athlete.

Nadab Joseph, a 4-star defensive back from Champagnat Catholic School (Hialeah, Fla.), told SEC Country two months ago that a de-commitment from LSU in the near future was “very possible.” That came to fruition on Thursday.

“I would like to thank LSU’s coaching staff for always making me feel at home whenever I am there,” Joseph said in a statement on Twitter. “Last year around this time I made a decision to commit to LSU. When I made that decision everything felt right. Every time I’m there it still feels the same way, but I am starting to feel that way in other places too.

“I want to make sure that I’m making the right decision.”

Joseph, who’s one of Alabama’s top cornerback targets in the 2018 class, took a surprise visit to Tuscaloosa last month. It was his second trip to Alabama in as many months.

One interesting factor for Alabama’s chances with Joseph is the fact that his legal guardian is one of Tide safety Ronnie Harrison’s cousins. Harrison and Joseph have a very strong bond. When Joseph visited last week, he spent a lot of time with Harrison. He’s also close with Deionte Thompson.

“Ronnie and I are very close, so I guess you can say like we are cousins,” Joseph said. “Ronnie and DT are on me hard. They’re telling me that they know I can come in and play. Ronnie would probably be leaving (next season), but it will be really fun to play with DT.”

Florida State and Georgia are two other schools to watch for Joseph moving forward, but I fully expect Alabama to be the choice when he makes his next commitment.

Nadab Joseph’s leisurely stroll toward a broken commitment has reached its conclusion.

Despite a longstanding commitment to LSU, he four-star defensive back has spent months fielding other school’s pitches, making numerous campus visits and investigating his opportunities. It’s why some suspected the decommitment that took place on Thursday afternoon was inevitability.

With a single tweet, Joseph became a recruiting free agent of sorts. When asked which schools he will now consider, the highly rated DB responsed with a to-the-point text.

"UGA, FSU, BAMA, LSU and OU," Joseph wrote. "I just fee like I can have those same opportunities that I can have at LSU at those places. I'm comfortable with those staffs."

Joseph, who recently transferred to Miami Norland High School from Hialeah Champagnat Catholic is being recruited as both a safety and corner but would prefer to remain at corner in college.

RIVALS REACTION: Joseph has been high on Alabama, Florida State and Georgia among others, but those three schools figure to be the major players in his recruitment going forward. The Rivals100 prospect has long been flirting with the Seminoles and has attended a number of events at the school, but buzz of possible his decommitment from LSU grew louder after a recent trip to Alabama. The Tide and Seminoles hold an edge over Georgia, which will most likely also crank up the heat on the Miami product. As of now, Nick Saban and company have to be seen as the slight favorite.

Let's discuss the potential DB class we will land this year.

We already have one commit in Jalyn Armour-Davis.

Who would you take out of the following players:

Tyson Campbell
Josh Jobe
Nadab Joseph
Kelvin Joseph
Jaycee Horn
Myles Mason
Kalon Gervin

I think we have room for 3 more. I say Campbell, Nadab and Jobe.

Who you got?

That is 5, but Bama needs DB.

If Bama misses on any of the above, then take Horn.

Some dude posted this on BOL:

quote:

As far as local goes, I haven't seen or heard of Luke ford wearing any other schools gear around town or to practice except bama. Apparently he had some uga stuff at the opening but he hasn't been wearing it around carterville. Local radio station did an interview with him and saw a photo on the stations Facebook and also his twitter. Bama shirt...Russell brand....don't think coach is giving those out which means that was paid for by him. Again we know Mack used to rock all sorts of gear and Najee last year so probably isn't anything earth shattering but thought it interesting he is rocking just bama around town.

Anyone care to translate?

Would love to have Campbell and Surtain + Joseph and Joseph. That would certainly re-establish our recruiting cred for this year. Would love Jobe as added bonus or replacement for one Joseph.

I don't think we can pull Surtain. His dad is really good friends with LSU's DB coach.
