On Saturday afternoon, IMG Academy defensive end Stephon Wynn committed to Alabama over Georgia and South Carolina.
According to Wynn’s father, Stephen Sr., the Tide landed a fighter in his son on Saturday.
“How I knew it as a father, when I held him in my arms he was long and had big ol’ hands, and my wife had complications throughout the pregnancy with him, and that’s the way we knew he was a fighter,” Wynn Sr. told 247Sports’ Jake Rowe.
Wynn Sr., who played tight end for Clemson in the 90s, has long been a major influence in his son’s football career, providing him the support and education the now four-star defensive end needed to make it in the spotlight.
“I shared that with him at a time in his life he needed to hear something like that,” Wynn Sr. said of when he told his son how he knew he had a fighter. “He was telling me he really realized, ‘Hey daddy, I’m good. I’m competing against the best. I’m whipping everybody I go against.’” I didn’t go to one practice. I had parents come back and tell me how he was doing in practice, because I had drilled him and trained him up, had him ready for the big stage.”
It’s been noted that Wynn is very much a team-first prospect. He learned what that meant at a young age when he had hoped to play running back despite his size.
“It came easy for him because I had instilled that in him,” Wynn Sr. said of his son’s commitment to the team-first mentality. “I just told him, ‘Son the team needs you more at center or offensive line than you need to be at running back.’ I said, ‘Take one for the team, I promise you at the end of the day it’s going to work out for you.’”
So what kind of guy is Alabama getting in its latest commit?
“I told them they got a superb, great young man,” Wynn Sr. said. “All the way across the board, he’s going to give everything he’s got. I said if he’s not giving 110 percent, call me and I’ll come put my foot in his rear end. They know what they’re getting.”
247Sports’ Jake Rowe conducted this interview on-site.

Corral would give us a boost in the recruiting rankings, but I'm not sure how I feel about him
Oh he's definitely a thug.
However, maybe he just needs to get out of California to straighten his arse out like Rolo.
Unfortunately, no one could take the Decatur out of McLain.

Hope Alabama can land Peterson. Just not a great overall LB class.
We will.
I'd say a LB class of Peterson, Latu and Walker would be an elite haul. It won't be better than last year, but that may be the best LBer class anyone has ever landed.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Luke Ford, the nation’s No. 4 tight end in the Class of 2018, was named after a Jedi.
Ford, a 4-star prospect from Carterville (Ill.) High School, told SEC Country that his father actually wanted to name him Luke Skywalker Ford. Luke’s mother denied her husband’s request.
“You mean like where I got my name?” Ford said. “Well … my Dad. He wanted to name me Luke Skywalker.”
Ford’s middle name is Delsignore, instead. But, Ford admits that he’s a big Star Wars nerd, so everything worked out for him in the end.
His commitment to Arkansas didn’t work out, however. Ford de-committed from the Razorbacks in June because he wanted to visit other schools. Arkansas coach Bret Bielema has a no-visit rule for commits. The rule typically means players who have committed to the Hogs will be considered uncommitted if they take visits elsewhere.
“I was just thinking about after I committed early in March that I don’t want the first time I visit LSU and Alabama is when I play them,” Ford said. “I called Coach Bielema and asked him how he felt about me checking out other schools. I only checked out two schools (prior to committing). He said that it was going to hurt the recruiting class.
“I have to be selfish and choose which school is best for me, so I just told him that I had to de-commit and check out other schools. Me and him are good. He was fine with it. The only right way I could do that was to just de-commit. It would look bad for the program, and I didn’t want to hurt the program.”
Ford said he’s still considering the Razorbacks, but it’s highly unlikely he becomes a Hog. Elite recruits rarely return to the school they were once committed to. He did say, though, that if Bielema didn’t have that rule in place, he would still be committed to Arkansas.
Since his de-commitment, Ford has visited Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU. The Crimson Tide received a visit from Ford on June 17. He quickly told SEC Country after that trip that the Tide were on top. They still are.
“Alabama stands out because of the facilities and the new offensive coordinator,” Ford said. “He’s coached (Rob) Gronkowski. He was with the Patriots and won five Super Bowls there. Alabama stands out really high on my list. They’ve made it clear that I’m their No. 1 target at tight end. That means a lot to me because it’s Alabama.”
It should be noted that Ford, along with the nation’s No. 1 junior college tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson are considered to be the top targets at tight end for Alabama. Wood-Anderson will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on July 21 before making his commitment on August 1.
Ford said every other school is scrambled in the mix behind Alabama, but Auburn, Georgia and LSU are close to overtaking the Tide for the top spot.
“They’re not too far down there, but Alabama was just an amazing visit,” Ford said.
As for when a commitment could possibly come? Don’t expect a decision anytime soon.
“I learned from my first commitment to take it slow,” Ford said. “I think I’m going to take it until signing day. If not then, then at the Under Armour game (in January).”

You know, I was worried about Daboll's recruiting abilities seeing as he's been out of the college game for almost two decades, but if these prospects are to be believed he is absolutely killing it recruiting-wise.
They all seem to love him.

We've been spoiled by hitting nearly every LB target in some deep arse LB classes.

2. Now that Zamir White is committed, who do you see as the next major announcement and what's your prediction?
ROB CASSIDY (Southeast): I imagine five-star quarterback Justin Fields is next. He’s outside of my region so my prediction on him is probably irrelevant. Still, I'll take a guess because I like guessing. I like Florida or Georgia here, but tend to lean toward the Gators just because the depth chart in Gainesville is less crowded. That said, I probably just sealed his commitment to the Bulldogs. Sorry, UF bros.
MIKE FARRELL (National): When talking about five-stars, both Justin Fields and Matt Corral will commit by the middle to end of July and it's so hard to figure where either will end up. I'll take a shot in the dark on Florida for Fields and UGA for Corral but I honestly don't know where either will land for many different reasons. If Fields picks UGA, and he could, it will be interesting to see if Corral ends up at Florida as the Gators desperately need a big-time quarterback.
ADAM FRIEDMAN (Mid-Atlantic): Five-star quarterback Matt Corral, currently the No. 7 player in the Rivals100, recently parted ways with USC and word is he's not going to be on the market long. Georgia seems like it could be the choice but there is a lot that depends on fellow five-star quarterback Justin Fields.
ADAM GORNEY (West Coast/National): I don't know when Anthony Cook is coming off the board but I'd be surprised if the five-star defensive back doesn't end up at Texas. The way he was talking to me at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas, he just seemed to have a whole lot of passion for the Longhorns and especially how first-year coach Tom Herman is running the program. I expect a lot of in-state kids to keep a close eye on Texas early this season and with any improvement, a lot of talented kids are going to end up in Austin.
JOSH HELMHOLDT (Midwest): We're used to quarterbacks being early commits, but after a couple de-commitments we now have two five-star signal callers heading into July with open recruitments. Justin Fields seems to be the closest to a decision, with recent visits to several schools many see as the top contenders. Now that he has de-committed from Penn State, I like the allure of the home-state team in the end to pull this out, so I'll go with Georgia.
NICK KRUEGER (Texas): In a few weeks Brennan Eagles will announce his commitment, and even though he made the recent decision to not do interviews surrounding his recruitment anymore, it seems as though the signs are pointing to Texas. Eagles is just outside the top 35 players nationally, so adding him to the previously mentioned impressive class the Longhorns already have is another major win for Herman.
CHAD SIMMONS (Southeast): All eyes are on Justin Fields. Since he de-committed from Penn State early in June, he has been the hottest recruit in the country. And he does not like it. He has already visited Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia since re-opening his recruitment, so he is moving at a fast pace. There has been chatter that his mind is already made up and that a decision will come soon. It is hard to know when the time will come, but Fields is likely to commit in July. He wants to get it done prior to his senior year which starts in early August, so he could be the next five-star to pop.

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Sprinkled in among the top 2018 football prospects in the country taking the field at this weekend’s The Opening Finals are six of America’s top 2019 recruits.
Georgia defensive end commit Nolan Smith headlines a group that also includes linebacker Owen Pappoe, defensive end Zach Harrison, offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs, running back John Emery Jr. and defensive tackle Jowon Briggs.
The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Smith is a freak edge rusher who arrives with the seventh highest Nike Football Rating at the event, tops in his class, which includes a 4.59 laser-timed 40-yard dash, a 44-foot powerball toss and a 40-6 inch vertical. The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy product is a rare blend of length, twitch and strength. He’s been committed to the Bulldogs since January and ranks as the No. 3 prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite.
Pappoe is back for a second-straight year after becoming the first-ever rising sophomore to be invited last summer. The Loganville (Ga.) Grayson standout is a fast, fluid linebacker that is very comfortable playing in space. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the top outside linebacker in the land and he’s considering opportunities from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia among others.
247Sports has already placed five stars on Harrison, who hails from Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy Orange High. His Nike Football Rating of 125.82 ranks third nationally in the 2019 class as the 6-foot-5 1/2, 243-pound Harrison ran a 4.62 laser-timed 40-yard dash with a 43-5 powerball toss and 35-9 inch vertical leap. Harrison has an extremely impressive frame and like Smith, the unique twitch and speed rushing off the edge. Ohio State is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite with Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State among others being highly considered.
We look forward to seeing how the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle in Dobbs stacks up against Smith and Harrison. The Belleville (Mich.) High blue-chipper has been downright dominant against just about everyone else, having strong performances at The Opening Regionals in both Chicago and Cleveland to earn his Golden Ticket. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Dobbs has over 25 offers. My Crystal Ball is on Ohio State with Alabama, Auburn, Michigan and Michigan State being just a few more he’s looking into.
Emery is a big-play running back who can also catch the football. LSU is naturally the early Crystal Ball favorite for the Destrehan (La.) High standout who 247Sports ranks as the No. 6 player in the country at his position.
Briggs makes two Ohio products competing at the Nike World Headquarters. A high-motor, explosive interior player that was dominant at the Cleveland Regional, Notre Dame is my Crystal Ball forecast for the Cincinnati Winton Woods talent. Briggs also likes Michigan and the local Bearcats.

It seems like he is doing better and making more of an impression than Kiffin did.

Kiffin couldn't be trusted on the road. He was too likely to be recruiting pussy as opposed to prospects.

I'm on wide receivers today so if folks have questions on targets and how they look, I'll follow up over the night's session.
Going into this thinking St. Brown, Babb and Marshall battle for the top WR spot, but it's such a deep year with talent here that a handful of others can make a run at being a five-star.
