Jaycee Horn, 4-star prospect, Alpharetta, Ga.

Horn grew up a big Alabama fan. He still is a Crimson Tide fan. But, it’s clear Horn is torn on what he should do when it comes to his recruitment.

The Georgia corner is split between Alabama and South Carolina. The Gamecocks staff has done a fantastic job recruiting him and have made him strongly considering spurning the team he grew up rooting for.

I still believe he’ll choose Alabama when he’s ready to make a commitment.

Nadab Joseph, 4-star prospect, Hialeah, Fla.

Joseph is committed to LSU, but he recently made some eyebrow-raising remarks to SEC Country.

“My recruitment isn’t shut down, and it can possibly open up completely soon,” Joseph said. “I will be taking all five official visits.”

Joseph named several schools — not just Alabama — who have him thinking on his commitment to the Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect said if any school had a “slight lead” for his services that it would be LSU.

“Alabama, Georgia, FSU and Oregon are right up there with LSU,” Joseph said. “LSU used to be way out in front, but I’ve been impressed with Georgia the last couple times I’ve been up there and I’ve always liked ‘Bama. I love the atmosphere in Tallahassee. Oregon — I like their staff. I just want to see the school.

“But, I would say ‘Bama and Georgia are right there with each other.”

Harold Joiner gets some clarity on his position

Harold Joiner, a 4-star running back from Mountain Brook (Ala.) High School, visited Tuscaloosa on Thursday. It was an interesting trip for the Crimson Tide considering the comments he made to SEC Country on numerous times about the team’s recruiting strategy and depth at running back.

“They were the only school out of the 23 schools that said they were offering me as an athlete,” Joiner told SEC Country in April. “He [coach Nick Saban] told me tight end, running back, receiver and linebacker. I’m like, what?”

LSU has told Joiner he’s its top target at running back. That has the Tigers on top. How’d he react when Saban told him that he was going to offer him as an athlete?

“I mean, you can’t react to Coach Saban,” Joiner said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘All right, yes sir,’ and we moved on.”

After his visit on Thursday, Joiner told SEC Country that Alabama is now recruiting him at running back and wide receiver. He has previously said that even if Alabama indicated it wanted him as the running back in the Class of 2018, it wouldn’t matter because “they have like seven running backs.” Has that changed after his trip to Tuscaloosa?

“I have eased up on that thinking because I realize that coach will put me in a spot where he knows I’ll do well in,” Joiner said.
While that’s a big change in his thinking, LSU remains on top for Joiner.

The one thing that can change that is Joiner’s size. He’s 6-foot-3. There aren’t many successful running backs at his size and above. If he doesn’t grow, he’s already said he’s going to LSU. If he does grow, he’ll likely play wide receiver in college.

Joiner will make his commitment in August. Alabama remains in good position for in-state 4-star running back Asa Martin, who is my pick to be the Tide’s RB this cycle. Joiner said Alabama is still in his top 5.

Alabama makes the final five for top DT target Coynis Miller

This doesn’t come as any surprise, but 4-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller from Jackson-Olin High School (Birmingham, Ala.) included Alabama in his final five. Auburn, Florida, Louisville and Oregon are the other schools in the mix, according to a video he did with AL.com.

Miller has told SEC Country that Alabama is recruiting him the hardest and its efforts are led by offensive line coach Brent Key, who is the primary recruiter in the Birmingham area.

Not only does Miller hear from Key but also defensive line coach Karl Dunbar and Saban himself. But it’s his relationship with Key that has Alabama near the top of Miller’s mind.

“They talk to me a lot,” Miller said. “Every morning, every night. Me and Coach Key have a really good relationship. I like him. He’s one of those guys that if I don’t go to Alabama, I can still talk to him. He’s just a great guy to talk with.”

The Crimson Tide aren’t as deep at defensive line as they are at other position groups heading into next season. It’s something that the coaching staff has stressed to Miller.

“They tell me all of the time that a lot of players are going to leave there, so it could help their chances [of me considering them],” Miller said.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound prospect is still mulling a commitment before his senior season. When he does make his decision, I expect the Tide to be the choice.
