Shaw, which wouldn't really surprise me. If that dude was at practically any other program I think most people would have a much lower opinion of him.

the staff must view eddie as a top-100 player. Looking good for us. He reminds me of E. Jackson, under the radar kinda guy but works hard and plays the system well

Well he signed with Stanford so I'm guessing it was Shaw, which wouldn't really surprise me. If that dude was at practically any other program I think most people would have a much lower opinion of him. It never really made any sense to be honest. The kid wants to go into politics and he's from Alabama. If he won a championship as our starting QB then he could run for office as soon as he graduated and win in a landslide.

West was never going to start at Alabama with Tua on campus and the QB's we will sign in the next 2 cycles.

So Jack West did want to go to Alabama, but ultimately chose Stanford because Saban "was looking tired" and he didn't think he would be there in 4-5 years. Wonder who fed him that?

That's what we're dealing with now. You know that every other coach is playing the Saban age angle. That, plus the fact we have several new coaches for next season is undoubtedly why recruiting isn't as good this year, and looks like we may not have as good a signing day bump like we have been having. Obviously, the age factor used against us will only get moreso , but when the kids learn these new coaches are good ones, and we win a lot of games with them next year, that will change from a detriment to an advantage, especially since the new coaches will have a year to recruit rather than a couple of weeks.

It's undeniable that 5-stars turn out to be stars at a much higher percentage than 4-stars, the same hold true for 4-stars over 3-stars, etc. Recruiting matters, and star--as it turns out--are actually a pretty good predictor for how good that player and the team they play for will end up being.

Recruiting services have gotten better in the last 20 years. My guess is they are grading more on who is recruiting the kids than what numbers they are putting up, though that is still valid, more so in cases like a higher classification in a state with good high school football, but not limited to that.

When was the last time we had brothers who were both good?
Don't know about brothers in all positions, but Bama did have 2 brother quarterbacks win national championships, Gary & Jeff Rutledge. Gary was the starting QB for the 1973 NC team & Jeff was the starting QB for the 1978 NC.

Who is falling through for us to pick up Moody? I haven't watched any of his film. Anybody have a take on him?

Any news if Mojo will cancel trip to Oregon? I’d take him over Brown. Pair him with Langham and be done with DL .and with all these Lb wavering why have we not moved in on Otis Reece?

With us getting CB's for Moody I would have to guess our staff knows we will loose 1 of not both of our LB's

I think we will lose Jackson but didnt we convince Walker to cancel his visit to UGA? I'm still holding out hope for him.

I watched Mojo's film last night. Cant believe that dude is rated so low. Also can't believe we waited so late to offer him a scholly.

National Signing Day 2018: Top Recruits Most Likely to Start as Freshmen

quote:

College football programs are about to reap the rewards of their recruiting efforts on signing day.

And some of those programs will have starting sports for their recruits right away, whether due to depth issues, NFL departures or both. But which prospects have the most favorable outlooks?

Each player is ranked in the top 100 of 247Sports' composite rankings. Committed (and signed) players were the focus, but one uncommitted prospect is included.

Patrick Surtain Jr., CB, Uncommitted

Height/Weight: 6'1.25", 199 lbs.

High School/Hometown: American Heritage; Fort Lauderdale, FL

247Sports Composite: No. 6 overall (No. 1 CB)

Despite being uncommitted, Patrick Surtain Jr. is a unique case because of his elite talent and favorable outlooks at several of his top suitors.

Alabama needs to replace the entire secondary after losing cornerbacks Anthony Averett and Levi Wallace. LSU starters Donte Jackson and Kevin Toliver II are headed to the NFL. Miami lost Malek Young to a career-ending neck injury.

Surtain is the biggest prize remaining on the board, and he could solidify a starting lineup in the fall.

Ranking the Top Uncommitted Players in 2018 Class Ahead of National Signing Day

quote:

The creation of an early signing period has taken away some of the sizzle of next month's national signing day, which until this year was the only opportunity for college football prospects to lock themselves in to a school. As a result, the majority of top recruits have not only picked their destinations, but also made them official with national letters of intent.

But there are still plenty of stragglers, including some of the highest-rated players from the 2018 class. At this point, it looks like they won't decide—or at least publicly announce—where they're going until national signing day Feb. 7.

We've ranked the 10 best unsigned prospects, using 247Sports' composite rankings as a barometer but also factoring in their projected college value. We have also tried to read the tea leaves formed by their various school visits, quotes and social media posts to see if we can predict where they'll end up.

9. OG Penei Sewell

Measurables: 6'5", 349 lbs

Schools in the running: Alabama, Oregon, USC, Utah

Best attribute

Penei Sewell is rated as the second-best guard in his class, but he can easily take on either tackle spot depending on what his team's needs are. That versatility comes from great hands and active feet—a heck of a combination for someone so large.

Prediction

When Alabama sets its sights on a prospect, it tends to seal that deal, so it says a lot that almost every bit of contact Sewell has had in the past two months has been from the Crimson Tide. Assistant Tosh Lupoi is on the staff to pull in top West Coast prospects, with this Utah native the next one he'll draw to Tuscaloosa.

8. WR Jaylen Waddle

Measurables: 5'9 ½", 175 lbs

Schools in the running: Alabama, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M

Best attribute

What Jaylen Waddle may lack in size, he more than makes up for with speed and explosiveness. The 4-star recruit has the makings of a yards-after-catch wizard as well as someone who can break off big plays in the return game. He scored the winning touchdown in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 6.

Prediction

When coach Jimbo Fisher left the ACC for the SEC in early December, it not only shifted the entire college football landscape, but also gave Texas A&M a leg up on the competition for Waddle. Alabama was in the lead before that, but now the Aggies have the best shot.

5. CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart

Measurables: 6'2", 187 lbs

Schools in the running:
Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC

Best attribute

There aren't a lot of corners in the 2018 class with as much length and reach as Isaac Taylor-Stuart, a 4-star prospect who is the No. 4 CB in the country. Taylor-Stuart had 13 interceptions during his career at Helix High School in San Diego, six of them as a senior.

Prediction

Taylor-Stuart seems to have fallen in love with the SEC, telling Rivals' Adam Gorney that league is "more likable." He's also discovered the joys of Whataburger, which he can't get in California but can all over Texas. Head coach Jimbo Fisher should credit the burger chain for helping land the signature defensive piece of his first Texas A&M recruiting class.
