It appears Brevin White is at the top of the QB board:
This is from one of the 247 guys out West, but it contradicts the early reports we saw yesterday from Chris Kirschner and the BOL guys who stated Brock Purdy had the committable offer.
So, in closing, no one knows what the frick is going on. Again.

*On the QB front, sounds like Lancaster (Calif.) Paraclete's Brevin White is the one guy with the committable offer among Purdy and Foster. Staff is pushing hard and Tosh just left the house after another home visit. During the exit meetings, Saban told the family Brevin is the guy and he could enroll in early February. They haven't given him a timeframe when he has to make a decision but family knows they need to let them know soon so the staff can move on to plan B.

White reminds me of AJ McCarron. Tall lanky, decent arm and just enough mobility to extend plays or pick up a 1st down with his feet. Wouldn't be a bad pick up this late in the recruiting cycle.

I think the pecking order is White, Purdy, preferred walk-on. It would be nice to have someone incase Jalen leaves in the summer or switches positions.

I think it's just semantics. Both got commitable offers, but Bama would pick who gets the first opportunity to commit. According to Purdy, that's what Saban told him. The BOL guy thinks White will decide by Wednesday at the latest.

Staff visits for today:
- Tosh is seeing Brock Purdy.
- Saban and Banks are seeing Leon O'Neal.
- Saban is also visiting Julius Irvin tonight. I imagine Tosh will accompany him, but that's just a guess on my part.
- Karl Scott is seeing Eddie Smith.

Word is Tavion Thomas may not qualify anywhere and need to go to a prep or Juco for a year. That would make the most sense to me based on what occurred over the past week and OSUs current RB class but who knows

Hearing some crazy stuff regarding recruiting this morning. It sounds absurd, but we may be prepared to accept the commitments of both Sewell AND NPF. And the number may be 9 now.
So I'm not really sure anybody TRULY knows what's going on. The guys that I listen to are VERY reliable with this stuff. But maybe the assistants themselves don't even know for sure from day to day.
Saban reshuffles the board about every week, even this late in the process.
Craziness. Who really knows.

Our recruiting analysts are the worst due to Nick Saban doing such an great job of shutting them and the boosters out.

Personally, I don't think we NEED Sewell with the loaded 2019 OL class next year. I'd rather take NPF and use the other spot for a DL or DB.

5-star CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart says ‘Alabama has high chance’ to sign him after official visit

quote:
Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we talk the latest with one of Alabama’s top defensive back targets.

Posted on 1/30/18 at 9:17 am to TideSaint

Isaac Taylor-Stuart down to 4 schools
Isaac Taylor-Stuart is down to Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC. He’ll make his decision on National Signing Day, which is just 8 days away.
Taylor-Stuart, a 5-star cornerback, according to Rivals.com’s rankings, from Helix High School (San Diego, Calif.), took an official visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend. It was his first return trip to Alabama since the Army All-American was heading into his junior season. He only needed one trip to name Alabama his leader in his recruitment back in 2015.
The Tide eventually fell off as more offers for Taylor-Stuart rolled in and he started to make more recruiting trips, but his visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend reminded him of how he felt on his first visit to Alabama. He even tweeted that he “got that feeling” like he had back on his first visit. What did he mean by that?
“I mean the feeling of how great of a school Alabama is,” Taylor-Stuart told SEC Country. “They just came off a national title. They’re the No. 1 school. Seeing that weight room, the facilities, the coaches and having that feeling that I had before in 2015.”
Alabama has taken advantage of winning the national championship trophy. The recruiting staff has made sure that each recruit who has visited Tuscaloosa since the Tide beat Georgia in the championship poses with the trophy. Taylor-Stuart said this was one of the highlights of his weekend in Tuscaloosa.
“That definitely weighs on [my mind] a lot because not too many schools can even say they have been to a national title or even won one,” Taylor-Stuart said. “Basically, my main goal is to win a national title and if Alabama is the best place for me, then I’m going to go there and win that title. Seeing that crystal ball — that was my first time seeing a crystal ball. I was just like, ‘Whoa.’ I actually got to hold it and take a picture with it. It was a pretty awesome moment.”
Naturally, with defensive back being such a critical position for Alabama in these final few days before Signing Day, coach Nick Saban spent lots of time with Taylor-Stuart this past weekend. The Tide want to sign at least two more defensive backs with Taylor-Stuart; 5-star corners Patrick Surtain Jr., Tyson Campbell and Olaijah Griffin; 4-star safety Julius Irvin; and 3-star cornerback Eddie Smith all being targeted by the team.
Taylor-Stuart said he had lots of 1-on-1 time with Saban. He mentioned how he got to eat with him at breakfast and dinner. He also raved about the pancakes he ate, which you can hear him talk about in the video below.
Saban told him how Alabama needs to replace six defensive backs heading into next season. Taylor-Stuart is aware of the opportunity that’s in Tuscaloosa.
“All of the schools I’m considering, their depth is kind of low,” he said. “Alabama’s depth is really low. They just really need DBs and they’re trying to get the best guys. I just have to make the decision if I want to go there or not.”
Alabama’s chances of landing Taylor-Stuart did increase when the team hired away Jeff Banks from Texas A&M. Banks, who is the Tide’s new special teams coordinator, was Taylor-Stuart’s primary recruiter when he was with the Aggies.
There was some who believed Texas A&M was the favorite to land him before Banks left. It looks like there’s a clear reason why that is and why Alabama is in good position with him now.
“It impacts it because Coach Banks is basically my favorite recruiter,” Taylor-Stuart said. “I love talking to him. He’s always fired up. I just love him. That’s my favorite recruiter and just a guy I could talk to even when we’re not talking about football. When we talk sometimes, it’s not always about football. He’ll ask how I’m doing and give me personal life [tips] and stuff like that.”
He also met with new defensive backs coach Karl Scott for the first time this past weekend. Taylor-Stuart said he feels like he developed a quick relationship with him.
The nation’s No. 4 cornerback now has a trip to Tennessee this coming weekend before his decision on Signing Day. Taylor-Stuart said he was planning on taking an official visit to Georgia before making his decision, but the Bulldogs have been eliminated after Jay Valai, who was recruiting him for UGA, left for a job with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Tide have positioned themselves well for Taylor-Stuart, and this recruitment could shape up to be a race between Alabama and Southern Cal.
“Alabama has a high chance, honestly,” he said. “I’m gonna keep it like that. Keep it 100 [percent].”
The full video interview is in my post above.

Per BOL and another site, it's Bama vs USC for Griffin, UW & UA ahead of USC for Irvin, and Bama is very much in play for PS2, ITS, Smith and Campbell.
The other site also says Saban may take 9 more in this class, incl. 3 DBs. And, due to flip risk with Walker and Jackson, expect more names to pop up for LB, one being Dax Holifield.
