Cheese Grits is right. Tillman has to be an alter of someone who has friends really high up. LewDawg typically bans posters for way, way less.

Alabama is off to a slow start in recruiting in the Class of 2018, but that shouldn’t be too much of a concern to Crimson Tide fans because of Nick Saban’s track record over the past seven years where his program has had the No. 1 class each season.

The Tide are the leaders for several top prospects in the Class of 2018 and 2019, and we take a look at some of those highly regarded players below.

Here’s a look at who could be the next to commit to Alabama:

Jalen Cunningham, 3-star defensive tackle, Odenville, Ala.

Cunningham, who is the first cousin of Vanderbilt great Zach Cunningham, has listed Alabama as his leader since he was offered in February. He grew up a Crimson Tide fan, and it appears as if it’s only a matter of when he’ll actually pull the trigger.

The good news for the Tide is that Cunningham, who plays for Saint Clair County High School, has already come close to committing to Alabama once.

“At junior day (back in February) when I went there and I put on that jersey, I was just like, ‘Dang, I need to go ahead and do this,’” Cunningham said. “I decided to wait to see what else was going to come along. It just felt amazing to put on that jersey because I never thought I would get that chance. I felt at home.”

The 6-foot-4, 362-pound prospect will be in Tuscaloosa next weekend for A-Day. Could he decide to commit then?

Josh Jobe, 4-star cornerback, Miami

Jobe is committed to Miami but was in Tuscaloosa last weekend. The visit couldn’t have gone any better, according to multiple sources close to Alabama.

The nation’s No. 9 cornerback nearly flipped his commitment from the Hurricanes to the Crimson Tide last summer, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him do it in the coming weeks. Jobe will play his senior season at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, so he won’t be able to visit Miami as frequently.

Xavier Williams, a 4-star wide receiver who’s committed to Alabama in the Class of 2018, is very close to Jobe and is trying to get him to flip. Williams has told SEC Country that he likes the Tide’s chances to land him. Williams is expected to visit for A-Day next weekend and is trying to get Jobe to tag along.

Pierce Quick, 2019 4-star offensive tackle, Trussville, Ala.

Quick told SEC Country a few weeks ago that he could make a commitment this summer. If he does, it’s hard to imagine any school not named Alabama getting his commitment.

Like Cunningham, Quick grew up a fan of the Tide and has them leading the way for his commitment. He’s visited Tuscaloosa numerous times this spring, and it seems like there hasn’t been one week where he wasn’t in town for a spring practice.

When he got his offer in February, committing was on his mind.

“I’m not going to lie, it was tough to not commit,” Quick told SEC Country last month. “The staff was good about it. They understand that I am young. No school is pressuring me to commit anytime soon. They understand that I want to see what’s all out there.”

Quick has done just that. He’s visited Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and wants to visit Oregon because he has a good relationship with Mario Cristobal.

Christian Tutt, 4-star cornerback, Thomson, Ga.

Tutt is the only one on this list with a set commitment date. He’ll announce his decision May 30, a date very special to Tutt. That’s the day of his older brother’s birthday. He would have been 22. Chris Tutt died in a single-car accident on June 2, 2016. Chris and Christian were very close, so the latter felt like making the biggest decision of his life so far on his older brother’s birthday was a good way to pay homage to him.

Family is very important to Tutt. A college that feels like home is one of the most important factors in the school he picks. He feels like Tuscaloosa is a good representative of his home located in a small suburb of Augusta, Ga.

“Tuscaloosa is not a big city. It’s kind of a country town,” Tutt said. “I like that. I don’t live in a big city. I live way out in the country. They got some good barbecue places just like home.”

The nation’s No. 18 cornerback has told SEC Country that his top two schools are Alabama and Florida State, and during our last conversation with Tutt, he said the Crimson Tide had the edge.

Alabama has one of those guys who makes Tutt feel like he’s at home — defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who, like Tutt, is from the “country.” Tutt and Pruitt have been close to each other since the recruit was in the eighth grade. Pruitt was one of the first college coaches to see Tutt’s ability and potential. That matters to Tutt.

He’s also expected to visit next weekend for A-Day.

Dominick Wood-Anderson, 4-star tight end, Yuma, Ariz.

Wood-Anderson is rated as the nation’s No. 1 junior college tight end and is one of Alabama’s top targets at the position. He’s coming off a recent trip to Tuscaloosa where he spent 3 days at the team’s facilities. Because of that trip, the Tide are the favorites.

“It’s somewhere where I’m going to come in and make an immediate impact and somewhere that’s going to give me the best shot to be a top 5 tight end in the country my first year and be a top 20 draft pick after my second year,” Wood-Anderson said.

The Tide signed two tight ends in the Class of 2017 in Major Tennison and Kedrick James, but they would like to add at least one more in the Class of 2018.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect has three years to play two when he transfers to an FBS school.

Visitor list for today's scrimmage:

Dameon Pierce, RB, Bainbridge (Ga.) -- Alabama commit

The four-star Alabama running back commit will be making his first trip to Tuscaloosa this spring after having to miss Junior Day due to a prior obligation. Pierce is the Tide's most tenured commitment in the 2018 class after pledging to Nick Saban and staff last summer. He plans to continue taking visits elsewhere despite his commitment, with Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia showing interest at the moment.

Jack West, QB, Saraland (Ala.) -- Stanford commit

Once thought to be the quarterback of the future for Alabama, West surprised a number of Tide fans when he committed to Stanford last summer. Does a visit to T-Town mean the four-star signal caller is still listening?

Alontae Taylor, ATH, Manchester (Tenn.) Coffee County Central -- Tennessee commit

The four-star athlete/receiver was set to visit Tuscaloosa last week before having to postpone. Taylor has been committed to the Vols since last June. Alabama has yet to offer.

Malik Langham, DE, Huntsville (Ala.) Lee

Langham has seen his stock rise tremendously this spring, however, Alabama has yet to pull the trigger on an offer for the three-star defensive end. Will that change soon?

Clay Webb, 2019 OG, Oxford (Ala.)

One of Alabama's top offensive line targets in the 2019 class, Webb has already visited campus multiple times this year. The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors the Tide for the elite interior lineman.

Drew Pyne, 2020 QB, New Canaan (Conn.)

Pyne already holds a dozen offers at this juncture in his recruitment, including Alabama. Friday will be at least his second visit to Tuscaloosa since last summer.

Jerome Carvin, 2018 OT, Memphis (TN)

Top DT target outlines top schools

Coynis Miller knows Auburn as well as any recruit.

Former teammate and close friend Tadarian Moultry signed with the Tigers in February. Miller has been to Auburn a handful of times in 2017. I’ve written about Miller in notebooks multiple times in the past month, and here’s another example.

But he’s no lock to Auburn. In fact, Miller is not even a lock for Auburn or Alabama despite his many visits and high priority at both schools. Miller rarely tips his hand in any direction. He hadn’t listed top schools or even set a decision time.

Until Saturday.

For the first time, to my knowledge, Miller named the programs that are in contention for his services.

“My top would probably be Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss,” Miller said. “I’m planning on visiting Florida in the summer.”

There aren’t any surprises there.

Those are the schools he visited, and they are relatively convenient to Birmingham, Ala., where he plays for Jackson-Olin. The general perception with Miller is he’ll end up at either of the Yellowhammer State SEC schools. Jackson-Olin coach Tim Vakakes told SEC Country in the fall that he isn’t 100 percent convinced that will happen.

“A lot of the schools that didn’t really recruit [Moultry] because they didn’t think they had a chance, they’re offering him. They knew [Moultry] was going to stay in state,” Vakakes said. “He wanted to go visit things, but it was going to be somewhere close.

“I could see Coynis going somewhere else.”

Auburn’s top receiver target takes Clemson visit

As it turns out, Justyn Ross isn’t always in Auburn.

It might seem that way, looking at the past two months of Ross recruiting visits. Ross was at Auburn three times in the past four weeks and six times since in 2017. He is a regular, and he’s Auburn’s most coveted recruiting target.

After all, he’s the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 4 receiver in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Given those numbers, Auburn isn’t alone in its desire to land Ross. Alabama is in there. So is Florida State, Georgia and, well, really any football program that passes the ball.

Count Clemson in that mix. And, judging by Ross’ reaction, the ACC Tigers passed the first test with flying colors.

He went to Clemson on Tuesday and called it “one of the best” visits he has taken. The defending national champions already have the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the nation committed.

On-the-rise DE gem high on Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. — The Caleb Tannor sweepstakes look like it’s shaping up to be an old-fashioned SEC recruiting battle.

A quick look at Tannor’s rankings doesn’t portray the full story, at least if you look at the way some of the SEC’s top programs are recruiting him. The 6-foot-3, 223-pound defensive end from Miller Grove (Ga.) is listed as the No. 24 strong-side defensive end and No. 617 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

That doesn’t do Tannor justice.

Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee have offered him since March 18. The first three programs in that group have received visits from Tannor since that time. He plans to visit Tennessee on Thursday.

But something separates Auburn from that group: He has visited the Plains twice in that span.

“I like it. I like it a lot. … It’s going to be a hard decision,” Tannor said.

Tannor, despite his humble ranking, has become a high priority for all.

Auburn wanted him on campus for its spring game, and the Tigers staff kept him around until the late evening before Tannor finally left his unofficial visit. He hasn’t sifted through his future visit schedule too in-depth — he hopes a trip to Columbus, Ohio, for an offer is in store — just yet, but return visits to Tuscaloosa and Athens should be expected.

Tanner said a decision “could happen” before the start of his senior season, but he hasn’t ruled out an elongated recruitment.

Part of the reason for the wait: “I know others are going to come,” Tannor said.

Florida and LSU are the two, in particular, that he thinks could be landscape-changing offers. The Gators and the Tigers have communicated regularly, but he still hasn’t picked up offers from them. Tannor cited LSU specifically as a program he’s “always liked.”

Tannor hasn’t narrowed his options completely yet. A top-10 list is imminent, he said.

But the big three — Auburn, Alabama and Georgia — received the most of his talking-point attention.

Does that mean those three programs have an advantage so far?

“Yeah, you can say that,” Tannor said. “Auburn, UGA and Bama are coming real hard.”

If Auburn has an edge, it’s the same thing the Tigers have with every defensive line recruit: Rodney Garner.

Tannor paid special attention to Marlon Davidson and Paul James III during his last two scrimmage visits, including A-Day. He said conversations for him with Garner haven’t explicitly specified the Buck defensive end spot versus the strong-side position, but Tannor thinks he has the skill set to do both.

Garner’s message on playing time has been reassuring to Tannor.

“I like him. He says, if I come prepared to play, he’s going to play me as a freshman,” Tannor said. “So I’m just going to try to see what I can do if I come in here ready to play.”

A-Day provided a welcome glimpse into the future for Auburn’s passing game.

Jarrett Stidham shined with his deep ball and efficiency in his first public Jordan-Hare Stadium appearance. True freshman Malik Willis impressed with his tight-throw accuracy and scrambling ability. Chip Lindsey’s new offense gave off a more quarterback and receiver friendly vibe.

Everyone noticed it — especially Auburn’s offensive recruits.

Auburn quarterback commit Joey Gatewood mentioned the spread-the-wealth passing game immediately after his visit. He said it put to rest any lingering doubts that, for the most part, never existed in the first place, which allows him to re-structure his focus in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

Instead of taking more visits and talking to more coaches, Gatewood has assumed the role of lead recruiter. It’s a growing trend in college recruiting, as each class tends to find the vocal leader to build around. For Auburn, last year’s version was Malcolm Askew.

Gatewood officially has taken on that responsibility in 2018 through various in-person and Twitter efforts.

“I was doing a lot (of recruiting). I’m trying to get the class right,” Gatewood said of his A-Day experience.

Want a better idea of Auburn’s offensive recruiting priorities? Just look at who Gatewood cornered during his weekend visit: WR Justyn Ross and RB Asa Martin.

Most of Gatewood’s time was spent with Auburn’s No. 1 targets at the wide receiver and running back position. Ross and Martin are top targets at multiple programs across the southeast and aren’t guarantees to land with the Tigers, but Gatewood is doing his part to secure them.

The Gatewood-Ross connection served as a symbolic bond on A-Day, as Auburn’s passing game opened up tremendously from previous years.

“It’s really important. You’ve got to have a good bond with your quarterback for y’all to play good. It stood out to me,” Ross said of Gatewood’s efforts. “He just says that he wants me here with him, that he wants a long wideout.”

Gatewood and Ross weren’t just weekend visit buddies.

They’ve developed a strong relationship dating back much earlier in the recruiting cycle. In Gatewood’s two most recent trips to the Plains, Ross has been there. The tandem played alongside one another at the Under Armour All-America Future 50 camp in December (both will play in the UA game in January).

Plus, Gatewood finds time to recruit Ross away from standard recruiting events.

“I talk to him weekly, almost daily. Like I say every time I’m here, I’m going to make him my receiver. … I’m confident, but we’ll see,” Gatewood said. “He’s going to be my wide receiver. I’m confident about it. I’m very confident.”

Ross laughed it off when asked why Gatewood seems so sure.

“I can’t say. You’ll have to talk to him about that. I don’t know,” Ross said with a smile.

Gatewood’s answer to that high-level confidence?

“You’ll see,” Gatewood said. “He already knows everything about Auburn. I’m just informing him that he can come with with me. I’m the quarterback. I want you to be my wide receiver. Just come join me.”

I know there isn't a real concern if Bama finishes outside the top 1 one time in recruiting, but seems that Bama isn't in on so many of the top guys early in the process.

Is there any concern at all from the faithful?

Where Auburn's top uncommitted prospects stand in their recruitment

Auburn picked up two commitments on A-Day last weekend as Kameron Stutts and Kolbi Fuqua joined the fold. Let’s take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects Auburn is recruiting and where they stand.
