Tua talks recruiting plan of three major Alabama targets
Now, while the Georgia commits are trying to make sure one 5-star prospect stays away from Alabama, one of the Crimson Tide’s commits, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, is trying his best to make sure one of their own remains a part of the Class of 2017.
Tagovailoa is in San Antonio this week with the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect and longtime Alabama commitment Najee Harris. In case you live under a rock or are just new to SEC Country (welcome!), Harris has told the media that he’s undecided with what he’s going to do with his college decision. He’ll either stick with Alabama or flip to Michigan. He’s expected to finalize his decision after the Army Bowl game on Saturday.
The Alabama QB commit told SEC Country that he’s not only working on Harris but also 4-star wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs III. All three of those players are similar in that they are very quiet when it comes to talking to the media.
“I think my message to them would be to have fun with whatever they are doing now,” Tagovailoa said. “I wouldn’t want to talk to them about coming here or there — just being who they are. I think they get that a lot from the media, especially Najee. I just want to get to know them better as people. That’s something more important to me than their football lives.”
Tagovailoa built a relationship with Harris and Smith while at The Opening, Nike’s elite football camp, last summer. He also formed a relationship with Ruggs at Nick Saban’s football camp last summer, too.
Tagovailoa and Harris, who are arguably two of Alabama’s most important commitments, were seen on SnapChat hanging out together in each other’s rooms in San Antonio. Harris was singing a Bob Marley song in one of the videos.
Both Tagovailoa and Harris are set to leave from San Antonio to their college of choice — the quarterback to Tuscaloosa and the running back’s plans are unclear. But, Tagovailoa’s roommate plans would be messed up if Harris were to flip to Michigan.
“I believe I’m rooming with Najee,” Tagovailoa said of his possible Tuscaloosa roommate.
This is good news.

Three Alabama 2017 commitments are on campus
The following players have made it to Tuscaloosa and are already starting their careers with the Crimson Tide: 4-star defensive end Isaiah Buggs, 4-star athlete Chadarius Townsend and 3-star defensive back Kyriq McDonald. Leatherwood, a 5-star offensive tackle commit, was expected to be in Tuscaloosa on Monday, but his final transcripts were not obtained yet from his high school in Pensacola, Fla.
Five-star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is expected to be on campus on Tuesday.

Texas OG commit Derek Kerstetter was one of the surprises of the 1-on-1 session of West OL vs. East DL. He even won at least one rep vs. 5-star Aubrey Solomon.

I'm happy with our LB haul in this class, but Willie Gay is a stud.
I watched him play against Clinton in his final high school game for Starkville and he was a monster. Damn near singlehandedly took down the eventual state champs.

I'm reasonably sure that might have been called a penalty if that were in a real game.

Appears Smith has bounced back well after that mugging.
