Didn't see this posted Rivals predictions for remaining 5*. Willis and potentially Collins (they have Parka going to UF)

They made some leaps for this one.

Marvin Wilson to Oklahoma?
Isaiah Wilson to Michigan.
Lamont Wade to Tennessee.

Keep an eye on Stanford Samuels and Bama. I'm not sure what's going on with him and FSU, but it sounds like there might be something brewing. I don't have any details.

Samuels is a legacy so if he's looking around it must be something big.

The nation’s No. 7 weakside defensive end Jarell Cherry (Dallas/Carter) said Alabama sticks out early on among his four offers.

SMU, Texas and Texas Tech have also offered Cherry (6-3, 230). The four-star 2018 prospect hopes to visit all four of those programs for games this fall.

Cornerback Stanford Samuels (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) said he's 'definitely' going to take his official visits.

"I'm not completely sure (on the dates and locations), those are still up in the air," Samuels said. "I'm planning to go to Michigan, FSU, Georgia and Alabama. I'm not sure on the fifth. I'm not sure if they will be during the season or after."

Samuels verbally committed to the Seminoles this summer.

"We are going to stick in there," Samuels said. "Things will get better. Their defense isn't playing like they should be. It should be fixed with coaching."

Samuels said he will 'probably' attend the Florida State game Saturday night at Miami.

He said Alabama is 'definitely No. 2' and pushing the hardest for him to flip.

"I hear from them every other day," Samuels said. "I talk to all of their coaches."

Crimson Tide area recruiter Mario Cristobal scouted Samuels Friday night as Flanagan defeated Miramar, 8-7.

Samuels rotated in at quarterback, worked some at safety often as an edge rusher and even punted.

"You got to do it all if you want to win," Samuels said. "(Blitzing off the edge) was something new just for this game. You want to set a presence."

Cristobal, Crimson Tide secondary coach Derrick Ansley and Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt are all in contact.

"It's just the program," Samuels said of Alabama. "It's the closest thing you'll find to the NFL. (Pruitt) is a defensive mastermind. He knows how to play great defense and how to produce elite defensive players."

Georgia coach Kirby Smart and Bulldogs defensive coordinator Mel Tucker speak with Samuels 'often.'

"Every week," Samuels said. "Those are two more defensive masterminds. I like the way they have fire when they coach and get the fire out of their players. I've been up there before and love it there. I want to be around the atmosphere. I enjoy myself there."

Michigan's staff, including his former high school coach Devin Bush, a defensive analyst for the Wolverines, is also still in contact.

"I talk to them every couple of weeks," Samuels said. "I've never been there before. They are on a roll. A couple of my boys are up there and I would love to visit them."

My thinking too. I would be surprised if he flipped anywhere. Also, if he did, would that mean Wade is "stuck" with OSU?

The Wilson one to OU I found interesting, but the other guy said Ohio State was in the drivers seat and I found that shocking since he hasn't been up there

The Wade to Tennessee thing has been trending somewhat recently, but I've heard Pitt more often actually

Wilson to Michigan I have no idea but it wouldn't surprise me

Alabama is on the hunt for its seventh straight recruiting championship. Join us here on SEC Country for a daily recap of Alabama recruiting news, insight on what’s happening behind the scenes, and for a glimpse at what’s coming next.
The likeliest recruits to choose the Tide

There are still several commits to come for Alabama as we inch closer to National Signing Day. The Tide currently have 21 commitments and are likely to sign anywhere from 27-28 players in the Class of 2017.

In order are the recruits I am most confident in with predicting to Alabama at this time:

Devonta Smith, 4-star WR, Amite, La.

If Smith doesn’t commit to Alabama, I think I’d be more shocked than I was to see Dylan Moses commit coming off an official visit for the Kentucky game.

Since Smith de-committed from Georgia in January, Alabama has been considered the overwhelming favorite for his signature mainly because of the relationships he has at the school — the primary one being with assistant director of player personnel Sam Petitto.

Petitto got his coaching start at Amite High School, which is where Smith attends. Though Smith wasn’t in high school at that time, Petitto was a very important community figure and instrumental in Smith’s upbringing. He helped mentor both Smith and Alabama freshman cornerback Shyheim Carter.

Smith de-committed from Georgia the same day it was announced Petitto had been hired by Alabama.

The nation’s No. 10 wide receiver was back in Tuscaloosa this past weekend for Alabama’s game against Kentucky. It’s one of several trips he’s made to Alabama over the past several months. Even though he’s only an hour away from LSU, he’s visited Tuscaloosa more than Baton Rouge.

He’s expected to make his commitment on National Signing Day, but it’s very possible he ends his recruitment before then.

LaBryan Ray, 4-star DE, Madison, Ala.

Like Smith, it would be a giant shock if Ray didn’t end up in Alabama’s class when he decides to make his decision, which is not scheduled just yet.

The Crimson Tide rarely miss on one of their top in-state priorities, and I can’t see Ray choosing any school other than Alabama.

He’s very good friends with 3-star defensive back Kyriq McDonald and 4-star offensive guard Kendall Randolph, both of whom are committed to Alabama. He’s told SEC Country before that those guys being in Alabama’s class helps the Tide’s chances even more because he’s been friends with them ever since they were little kids.

The amount of times Ray has visited Tuscaloosa can’t be counted on two hands. Alabama has also hosted him on campus much more than any other school in the country.

Alabama’s biggest competition for Ray is Tennessee, but the gap between the two schools should be considered very wide.

Elijah Conliffe, 4-star DT, Hampton, Va.

Conliffe is expected to visit Alabama for the Texas A&M game on Oct. 22, and it’s very likely that a commitment comes on that trip or shortly after it.

He recently told SEC Country that Alabama still leads for his commitment. The gap is so big that he couldn’t name a school behind Alabama and said he wasn’t sure how any of the other schools he’s considering could leapfrog Bama for the top spot.

The 4-star recruit made it one of his biggest goals to receive an offer from Alabama after not receiving one from the Tide last year. He eventually picked one up this summer and named Alabama his leader shortly after.

It’s very possible he could be the next recruit to commit to Alabama.

Major Tennison, 3-star TE, Bullard, Texas

Tennison was on commit watch this summer when he visited Tuscaloosa in July for Alabama’s invite-only cookout. He chose to not commit at the time because he had just de-committed from Texas a few days earlier.

Now that the months have passed, Tennison will be back on commit watch when he takes an official visit to Alabama on Oct. 22 for the Texas A&M game.

Since July, Tennison has gone silent with his recruitment, but Alabama still is in good position to land him when he makes his commitment.

The Tide already have a tight end commitment in the Class of 2017 in 3-star prospect Kedrick James, but the plan has been to sign two at the position. Tennison is the clear favorite for the second spot.

Phidarian Mathis, 4-star DT, Monroe, La.

Mathis recently told SEC Country that Alabama reaches out to him every single day, and that matters to him because it shows how badly the Crimson Tide want him.

He also said that each time he’s visited Tuscaloosa, it has felt like home. That’s important because Mathis said he’s looking for a place that reminds him of Monroe, La.

LSU is the biggest competition for Mathis, but the Tigers have other targets they are trying to get ahead of him. Because of that, I expect Alabama to sign Mathis when he makes his commitment after his high school season.

SEC Country mentions him as a possible addition to this class way more than BOL. Hank South usually throws him in as an afterthought.

McMath sits atop LSU’s wish list right head of Alabama lean Devonta Smith and Georgia lean Jeremiah Holloman.

So Racey McMath, a 3-star who didn't even hold a committable offer from L5U until Guidry decommitted, is ahead of Devonta Smith on the L5U wish list?

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

At a powerhouse high school football program like Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, one signing day or three signing periods don’t matter to its blue-chip recruits.

USC sophomore cornerback Iman Marshall never signed a binding National Letter of Intent with the Trojans in 2015. The former five-star just showed up in the summer.

Similar to Marshall, USC freshman defensive back Jack Jones declared for Southern Cal on Signing Day last February, but he actually almost enrolled at UCLA because he never signed a LOI as well.

Former NFL linebacker and Super Bowl winner Antonio Pierce is the head coach at Poly. He’s recommending his Top247 2018 receiver Camren McDonald, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound stud with early offers from the likes of Florida, Tennessee, UCLA and USC do the same.

“I think it’s one of those things, they get recruited so hard, I told them you don’t need to rush to make a decision on Signing Day to do the whole hat thing or signing day deal," Pierce told 247Sports on Wednesday. "Sit back and watch the process in the spring and see how depth charts change or what coaches move. A lot of things change with quarterbacks, coaches get fired, it’s not fair coaches can get up and leave without repercussion and kids have to sit out a year.”

According to Pierce, Marshall and Jones signed financial aid agreements with several places, but until they stepped foot on USC’s campus and took something that was paid for by the school, they had the opportunity to go elsewhere.

That brings us to the NCAA Division I Council, which on Wednesday afternoon released proposals for new rules that would never impact a recruit the caliber of Jones and Marshall. Rules I disagree with.

Let's start with the proposal for two early signing periods, one in June and one in December (when early-enrollees already sign). Those are unnecessary, when the current system of signing the first Wednesday of every February works just fine. Yes, there are more decommitments than ever before but that’s because kids are starting the recruiting process earlier and earlier. With that they’re seeing situations change and they’re also getting later offers they didn’t have to consider the first time around. That doesn’t mean that it makes it easier to make a college decision or that it’s even the NCAA Council’s responsibility to regulate that. Just like college coaches are able to identify prospects earlier and earlier, information is easier to get for a recruit and his family. That's going to lead to flip-flopping.

I’d venture to say that recruits will now feel a ton of pressure to sign to secure their spot, whether it’s at a place like Purdue, Illinois, Kentucky or Mississippi State, just the same they would at Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson. Schools that might be an "upgrade" over a player's current destination, who are still working through evaluations, will undoubtedly convince kids committed elsewhere not to sign and take more time because they're still evaluating them. The kid now has to make a life-altering decision regarding his future without potentially being dealt all his cards.

The less players that sign early, the less players getting screwed out of a potential better opportunity down the road.

And give me a break on the concept of sparing long-time commits that are tired of answering calls from other schools trying to flip them. I’d guess Jonah Williams was real clear with folks he was headed to Alabama when he gave the Crimson Tide an early verbal and other schools quickly stopped trying to persuade him.

What’s worse than the idea of two early Signing Periods is limiting camp dates for college coaches. These are opportunities for kids to earn scholarships.

Currently schools have 30 days in the summer where they can host camps, on campus or even outside the country, to evaluate prospects and potentially offer scholarships. The new proposal is asking for 10 days.

Ten?!

Why is this being policed? Texas A&M’s latest running back commit Jacob Kibodi earned his offer at a satellite camp in Louisiana. There's countless number of stories of offers being earned in camp. The more camps, the more chances a player has to prove himself.

It should be a no-brainer that within the 30 allotted days, football coaches should be able to do what they want, when they want, where they want, and how much they want. So if Michigan's Jim Harbaugh wants his staff out all 30 days and Ole Miss's Hugh Freeze wants his home, that’s fine. There doesn’t need to be a rule that meets in the middle. To each their own.

Kids need an opportunity to be evaluated more, not less. Both proposals fly in the face of that.

Does all the transfers Bama has had affect how many players Bama will sign this year. Seems like 30 is the magic number. Bama could also have 10-15 EE.

Alabama linebacker commit VanDarius Cowan, a 2017 four-star prospect from Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.), has three official visits locked in, he tells BamaOnLine.

The 6-foot-4, 226-pounder will visit Alabama for the Texas A&M game on Oct. 22., LSU on Nov. 5 for the Alabama game and Georgia on Nov. 12 for the Auburn game.

Cowan plans to take all five official visits with the remaining two likely going to Ohio State and USC. Those dates, however, have yet to be set up.

This weekend the elite linebacker plans to be in attendance for Florida State at Miami, assuming the game will be played with Hurricane Matthew set to soon make landfall in Florida.

Cowan is rated the No. 4 outside linebacker and the No. 69 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. The South Florida product flipped from FSU to Alabama last April.
