"I've had really good people around me to help me through the whole process," West said. "My parents, (Saraland) coach (Jeff) Kelly, David Morris (quarterbacks coach) all are vital. Also people like A.J. (McCarron), Jake (Coker) and Jason Smith who have been through this before and who fortunately I know well have guided me and helped me stay grounded. That is important to me. Whether I throw five picks or five touchdowns, I want to be the same guy."
In his first year as a starter in 2015, West led the Spartans to an 8-3 record. Saraland's only losses came to eventual Class 6A state champ Spanish Fort, Region 1 runner-up Blount and Class 6A semifinalist Benjamin Russell (in the first round of the playoffs). This fall, West obviously will have the benefit of a year's worth of playing experience. However, he also will have to cope with the loss of most of the Spartans' other offensive weapons, including star wideout Velus Jones (a USC signee) and running back Sean Long (Miles College). However, West said he is not shaken by any extra pressure.
"I think pressure is the expectation someone else puts on you," he said. "I have a certain level of expectation of myself and my team. I think this year will bring out the best of me as a player, and we have some younger kids who are really going to make a name for themselves as well."
Kelly said there is a much different feel about West in his second spring training as the starting quarterback than there was a year ago, and that is a credit to the young quarterback himself.

JACK WEST – 2018 QB – SARALAND
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 215
First offer: Tulane (spring of eighth-grade year)
Recruiting skinny: Before his junior season even starts, West has more than 20 big-time college offers, including Alabama, Auburn, California, Stanford, Michigan, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, UCLA and USC. He has trips planned to Stanford and Alabama this summer and also is hoping to go to Michigan and possibly some other campuses. Though he hasn't released a top 10 or anything of that nature, Stanford and Alabama would seem to be among his top choices at this point.
What makes West a top recruit? "From the waist down, Jack is as good as anyone I've seen," Kelly said. "His feet are balanced. He is always in position to deliver an accurate ball. He has some great instincts and leadership abilities about him. He has the confidence you need to play that position and navigate all the trials and struggles that come along with playing quarterback. It's not an egotistical deal. He has that quiet confidence that makes everyone else comfortable on the field. He's a 16-year-old kid in the 10th grade right now. His future is tremendously bright."
Needs to work on: "My mental approach to the game," West said. "Being able to have a year under my belt has allowed me to adjust to the speed of everything, and I think I will be much more comfortable this year. Obviously, I want to get better at everything. Throwing routes on time and driving the football down the field are definitely two things."
What are you looking for in a college? "I want to attend the college that makes me the best person on and off the field," West said. "I want to go somewhere that pushes me to hardest to do well in the classroom and as a player – in that particular order."
When do you want to make your college decision? "I don't have a timetable," West said. "I have no idea right now."
What's something people would be surprised to know about you? "I take dance class here at Saraland," West said. "Coach Kelly's wife (Lisa) is the teacher. She danced in college. We stretch every day. We have a performance May 13."
Who will help you most in making your decision? "Definitely my parents, coach Kelly and (quarterbacks coach) David Morris. Those are the people that have been there since Day 1, and I am thankful for them."
I hope we don't lose him to Stanford. LINK

Will Ignont has silently committed to one of Alabama, Auburn and Georgia.
Me thinks it's Bama:

Me thinks it's Bama:

Out of those two in-state programs, one program is considered the favorite.
“Right now that would probably be Alabama,” Ignont said. “Really just the relationship I have with Coach (Tosh) Lupoi and Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt. Even when Coach Pruitt was at Georgia, that was why Georgia was one of my leaders early on. As he went over to Alabama, me and him stayed close. The relationship I have with Coach (Nick) Saban alone is big. Those three I look as like father figures.”

We got a CB for Safety Montaric Brown out of Arkansas

Nice. He's a great player. He and McKinney would be an excellent Safety class.

I like Brown a lot too. I'd be interested to see him play in an All-Star setting.

From the AU board, not vouching for credibility:
quote:
LB updates Will Ignot has given a silent to Bama. We're still in good shape with Moultry, Britt, and Wooten. Benton says that he has no leader and his recruitment is "wide open". Have to think we're still in good shape though. We've recently turned up the heat on Monty Rice as well. I assume it's due to Ignot going to Bama. Not sure if Rice is a take he' probably insurance if we miss on Benton

I saw that the other day, he is suppose to be a awesome kickoff returner too. Heard he visited Missouri.
