If we sign 3 5star linebackers and Joseph, it will be unfair. And I'm ok with that

The dead period ended last week and college coaches from across the nation were back in the state of Texas recruiting. Wilson received visits from a number of coaches and is beginning to plan a few junior day visits for later this month.

"Coach (Mark) Hagen from Texas A&M, Coach (Bo) Davis from Alabama, Coach (Ed) Orgeron from LSU, and Coach (Angus) McClure from UCLA - those are the schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now," Wilson said. "Coach Hagen actually came to my basketball game last week and watched us play.

"Right now, I'm going to the Baylor junior day on Jan. 30 and I'm going to the Florida State junior day on Feb. 23. I will probably visit LSU and Alabama as well, but that would probably be it for visits right now."

At the moment, a pair of SEC West programs are standing out for the 6-foot-5, 320-pound prospect.

"Coach Ed Orgeron at LSU and Coach Bo Davis at Alabama, those are the schools sticking out to me right now," Wilson said. "It's still an open process and anything can happen in a year from now."

Rashan Gary note from Scout:

quote:

According to his mom, Jennifer Coney, his last official visit will be to either Alabama or Clemson, and he could visit one officially and the other unofficially. She said a decision on which school will get the official has not been made.

"The final visit will be between Alabama and Clemson," she said. "We may do both. ...We're not sure which one officially."

UGA priority target now sounds awfully fond of Alabama (Video Interview)
quote:

JACKSON, Ga. — Close your eyes. Listen to Michail Carter speak. Forget he’s a 4-star defensive tackle who will choose between UGA, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia Tech.

The Under Armour All-American sounds like a young man who’d still have a bright future if he was able to dunk a basketball despite tipping the scales at 309 pounds.

“I want to major in sports medicine and I want to have a minor in personal finance so if I was blessed enough to play in the NFL then I’d be able to manage my own money and not have to count on anyone else to do that for me,” said Carter, who has a goal to work on an NFL training staff or own his own business when he’s 35 years old.

Carter sounds like a young man who takes AP classes with a 3.6 grade-point average, right? The 6-foot-4 senior also sounds like he has Alabama at the very top of his list.

Alabama coach Nick Saban visited him on Tuesday. That’s the school he will visit during the middle of the last week of January. He took his official visit to Clemson last weekend. He’ll take another official to Georgia Tech this weekend and head to UGA on Jan. 29.

Check out the positives that he discussed for each of his top four schools below. Why the list method? Carter said that’s how he analyzes his top schools as he breaks down his looming decision. He also analyzes each program in the video interview above.

Alabama

Feels Alabama is recruiting him the hardest
Sounds like he knows the players who are going to Alabama better than the recruits at any other school
Said the game-day atmosphere at Alabama ranks as the best he’s seen
Defensive line coach Bo Davis is one of the two coaches that are recruiting him that he feels the closest to
The chance to play early is greatest at Alabama of all places and that’s the big reason why he’d roll with the Tide

Clemson

Ties with coach Dabo Swinney and assistant Dan Brooks and co-defensive coordinator Marion Hobby seem important to him
Feels his second-best chance to play right away is with the Tigers
The defensive line verbiage at this school is similar to how he’s been trained by his high school coaches
Knowing that terminology is the biggest reason why he’d choose Clemson
On Clemson: “When they say they are different from everyone else and the way they treat their players it is really true. I love it there.”
His recent official visit moved the Tigers up considerably
Georgia

Carter rated this as his strongest academic option for his degree
Defensive line coach Tracy Rocker ranks alongside Alabama’s Bo Davis as the closest relationship he has with any recruiter
On Rocker: “He’s a genuine person. He really cares about you. I like the way he coaches. He’s very aggressive and demanding. I really like that. … He reminds me of my Dad so much with what he demands out of a player. He teaches them how to be men.”
He said UGA and Georgia Tech are recruiting him the hardest after Alabama
Transition from Mark Richt to Kirby Smart did not make much of difference to him
UGA was his first offer and that does matter to him
If he chose UGA, the reason would be to play for his home state and the team he loved growing up
Georgia Tech

Likes the mixture of an educational school with a good football team
Has a great relationship with assistants Mike Pelton and Joe Speed
Knows he’ll have a job opportunity off the bat after he graduates
Carter said UGA and Georgia Tech are recruiting him the hardest after Alabama

Carter is rated as the nation’s No. 15 DT and No. 119 player overall for 2016. He will make his decision on National Signing Day.

I would be perfectly fine conceding Derrick Brown to UGA if it means we can get Carter. His highlights look great.

Think she was trying to push him to Michigan without being too blatant about it. We were an early favorite of Gary so she used that "too serious" canard to knock us down. But now it seems we may still get a visit either an official or unofficial. Saban doesn't give up easily.

I get that we aren't close to UM academically, but her son would kill it on the field for Alabama. He'll likely be a top 10 pick wherever he goes but at UA he'd be coached by the best, have a shot at rings, and have a fantastic supporting cast around him. Definitely wouldn't have to be a one man show. Plenty of rest on his body for the eventual NFL career.

Looks like UGA is really starting to fade with Warrior:

Are things drying up between UGA and elite safety Nigel Warrior?
quote:

Nigel Warrior, a 4-star safety from Metro Atlanta, does not appear to be a strong candidate to play football for UGA at this time.

That’s according to a few thoughts from his mother, Tangie Warrior. She told SEC Country’s Chuck Kingsbury where things currently stand with her son and UGA.

The good: It appears his last official visit will come down to a trip to UGA or Auburn

The bad: It seems Kirby Smart has not become a vital figure in Warrior’s recruitment.

Tangie Warrior said the family has either been in contact with Smart or with new UGA defensive coordinator Mel Tucker. Those two have had whirlwind schedules of late but there has been a line of communication with one or the other.

“I think they have quite a few things on their plate being that they just took over the position,” Tangie Warrior said. “His relationship with Kirby had always been pretty much strong since he was at Alabama. Right now, I think it kind of has, in my opinion, died a little bit. Whereas the relationship with Tucker has grown. They’re in there, but it’s not like before the coaching change. Nothing is as strong as it was.”

That continues a hit-and-miss track record for UGA with the Peachtree Ridge standout. Warrior went nearly a year between UGA visits prior to his senior season. He also told SEC Country earlier this month he didn’t have the best relationship with former UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Smart’s hire was supposed to help. Another positive factor was bringing in Tucker to be the new defensive coordinator at UGA. He coached the defensive backs at Alabama this season.

Chad Clay, a Peachtree Ridge classmate, has already enrolled early at UGA. Breon Dixon, another Peachtree Ridge teammate, is already committed to join the Class of 2017 at UGA.

It appears UGA has not built on that momentum.

Warrior, a U.S. Army All-American, would make a difference in the secondary. The 4-star prospect is among the top five safeties in America this year by anyone’s evaluation.

The son of 13-year NFL veteran Dale Carter is also a Tennessee legacy. Alabama, LSU and Tennessee all appear to be ahead of UGA and Auburn at this time. Warrior still has a strong recruiting relationship with Nick Saban and defensive line coach Bo Davis at Alabama.

SEC Country’s Chuck Kingsbury contributed to this report

We just offered a 2017 JUCO DT that goes to the same school (ASA College) that Charles Baldwin and Leon Brown went to.

Interesting article on D'Vaughn Pennamon. He is a huge priority especially since Emmons is struggling to pass the ACT.

Ole Miss RB commit ‘not 100 percent solid’ recaps visit from Nick Saban

quote:

Alabama could have its second running back commit in this year’s recruiting class, depending on how an official visit goes this weekend.

D’Vaughn Pennamon, a four-star Ole Miss commit from Manvel, Texas, was visited by Nick Saban on Wednesday, and this weekend’s trip could make him rethink his commitment.

“I’m still pretty solid — not 100 percent solid, a pretty decent amount, though,” Pennamon told SEC Country in regards to his commitment status to Ole Miss.

Pennamon said Saban talked with him for 90 minutes at his school, and during that conversation, the five-time national champion told him where he stands on his big board.

“(Saban) said I’m their guy,” Pennamon said. “He loves what I do because I do what they do. He just wanted to stop by to see me before I got up there on the visit.”

This upcoming trip will be Pennamon’s first to Tuscaloosa, so Alabama really needs to show Pennamon a great time for the Crimson Tide to have a chance of flipping the running back’s commitment. Accompanying him on the visit will be his mother and brother.

The nation’s No. 6 running back said what got him thinking most about Alabama is what Saban had to say about his chances of seeing the field.

“The best thing he said to me was I have the opportunity to come in and play early,” Pennamon said. “For me, that’s pretty big. I also like how he told me that they try to develop the players to be as successful as they want to be. He said he likes making sure his players make the right choices every single day.”

Some of the successful players who Pennamon has seen come from Alabama like Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram and Eddie Lacy to name a few has him intrigued about the program as well.

“It’s really nice that you see guys from one certain school go on to be very successful in the league,” he said. “That’s just eye candy. It’s perfect.”

So did the visit from Saban increase Alabama’s odds of flipping the Rebels commit? He paused before answering.

“I’d rather not say.”
