I was reading between the lines on FSU's recruiting scoop, and apparently they think they've got a good shot at flipping Raekwon Davis. They also think they land Dontavious Jackson.

From ellitor on the Auburn recruiting thread:

FWIW Rusty Mansel of UGA 247 thinks it's more & more likely D Brown does not end up & UGA. His gut feeling is AU but Vols very much in it too.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The top-rated inside linebacker in America wore a black sweater with a red bow tie on Wednesday.

Why did Alabama 5-star senior prospect Ben Davis do that? Was that because UGA still leads Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Notre Dame? Davis said he looked into his closet and it “just looked pretty good on me.” Will the Gordo High School standout also feel that way about his attire on Saturdays this fall? We shall see. Davis maintained on Wednesday UGA was his leader, but said that Georgia and Alabama “were kind of even at the top” for him.

He also hinted a package deal of 5-star recruits might be in the works. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder said there is a possibility he and 5-star linebacker Lyndell “Mack” Wilson sign with the same school.

“It is definitely a factor,” Davis said. “Me and Mack we talk about it all the time. Playing with each other in college. So when it comes to signing day we will just have to see how everything goes.”

Davis also broke down the race for his signature in a way fans can easily understand. If his recruiting decision was a 40-yard dash, he placed UGA on the 39-yard line. So how close is Alabama?

He said the Crimson Tide was only a half yard to a yard behind. That’s the gap between UGA and the program where his father Wayne Davis still ranks as the leader in career tackles. Who’s running third? Davis said that was LSU at this time, but also expressed his excitement about his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

I truly hope I'm wrong but Mack Wilson doesn't impress me very much. I live in the area and literally no one is talking about him. Not even during football season.

Someone from the staff is visiting Tyler Vaughns in-home tomorrow. BOL didn't say who it was though.

Tosh is going out there. Tosh is outstanding but I kinda wish Kiffin was going with him. BOL says Kiffin has compared the kid to Marqise Lee and Robert Woods.
Vaughns also mentioned Saban and Kiffin specifically when speaking about what he likes about Alabama.

Dont forget, his OV is scheduled for Jan 22nd. On 2nd thought they may send Saban and Kiffin out to him if he seems legitimately interested after visiting.

Eddie needs another year. He went from our worst liability to a solid player in a year but needs another year, IMO.

Someone on BOL posted that Eddie would be back a couple of hours after that twitter report that he was gone. The Underclassmen declaration deadline is tomorrow (1/15/16) so we should know something soon.

I agree that he would benefit from another year. He would be pre-season All-SEC and All-America but I wonder if that knee scare against Tennessee is still in the back of his mind. He is probably a 3rd Round pick right now.

Now that the season is officially over, and Alabama has won its fourth championship in the past seven years, recruiting will start to pick up.

We are three weeks away from National Signing Day, and there are plenty of top targets that remain on Alabama’s big board.

Here’s a look at who could end up in Tuscaloosa next season with the hopes of winning a back-to-back title.

quote:

Top remaining targets

quote:

DL

Rashan Gary, five-star, Paramus, N.J.

Where things stand: Alabama seems like it’s on the outside looking in when it comes to its chances of landing the nation’s No. 1 player. He has not scheduled an official visit to Alabama at this time, though the Crimson Tide are fighting for his final one. Right now, consider Michigan the favorite to land Gary.

Derrick Brown, five-star, Buford, Ga.

Where things stand: Brown has already taken his official visit to Alabama, and the trip left the Crimson Tide in a better place than what they were. That visit was in December and he doesn’t have any unofficial visits to go back to Tuscaloosa set up. While Alabama did make inroads with the five-star prospect, Georgia and Auburn are considered the favorites.

Jeffery Simmons, four-star, Macon, Miss.

Where things stand: Simmons is down to a final four of Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee. He’ll visit Alabama on Jan. 22. If I had to guess, I think Simmons ends up signing with Alabama. There’s potential to get significant playing time on the defensive line next season, and Simmons is intrigued by that. The Crimson Tide have made Simmons a major priority. The day after the national championship, he received a phone call from Nick Saban.

Terrell Hall, four-star, Washington, D.C.

Where things stand: Hall will visit Alabama on Jan. 22, and the prospect from the nation’s capital is very high on the Crimson Tide. He told SEC Country that he is intrigued by Alabama’s versatile defensive players. He wants to drop into pass coverage and play with his hand in the ground on the next level.

Jonathan Kongbo, four-star, Surrey, British Columbia

Where things stand: The nation’s No. 1 junior college player recently de-committed from Tennessee, and Alabama may be the beneficiary of that move. He’ll visit Alabama on the Jan. 22. The Arizona Western Community College prospect, by way of Canada, is a major priority for the Crimson Tide.

Michail Carter, four-star, Jackson, Ga.

Where things stand: Carter has previously said that the Alabama coaching staff is recruiting him the hardest, but the Crimson Tide need to watch out for Georgia. Carter will take his last official visit to Athens, and he has not set one up to Alabama at this time.

Connor Murphy, four-star, Phoenix

Where things stand: Murphy’s brother, Trent, plays for the Washington Redskins. In college, Trent played for Stanford under Jim Harbaugh. It just so happens that Michigan is coming after Connor very strong. He just released his top five and Alabama did make the cut. He recently received a phone call from Nick Saban, so he is a priority to the staff. Murphy will visit Alabama on Jan. 29.

LB

Ben Davis, five-star, Gordo, Ala.

Where things stand: Davis is the son of Alabama’s all-time leading tackler, Wayne Davis. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be attending Alabama like his father, though. The nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker actually has Georgia as his leader because of his relationship with Kirby Smart. When he does make his decision, I expect him to choose ‘Bama.

Lyndell Wilson, five-star, Montgomery, Ala.

Where things stand: The nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker’s recruitment is all over the place. He has told SEC Country that Alabama is his dream school and the Crimson Tide have the best college football program, yet he has Florida listed as his leader. Then there’s his relationship with Georgia coach Kirby Smart. Wilson will take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22. I think this comes down to Georgia and Alabama in the end.

Mique Juarez, five-star, Torrance, Calif.

Where things stand: Juarez recently narrowed down his list to Ole Miss and UCLA, but he did tell us that his official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22 could shake things up.

Jaquan Yulee, four-star, Chesapeake, Va.

Where things stand: He just de-committed from Alabama, but is the former recruit rethinking things? Shortly after Alabama won the national championship, he told SEC Country that there’s a good chance he ends up recommitting to the Tide.

Dontavious Jackson, four-star, Houston

Where things stand: The middle linebacker target will visit Alabama on Jan. 22. Texas is seen as the favorite to land his signature.

Jeffrey McCulloch, four-star, Houston

Where things stand: Alabama is in McCulloch’s top five, but the Crimson Tide should be considered a long shot right now. They’ll have a chance to improve their chances with him when they host him on an official visit on Jan. 22.

Jaleel Laguins, four-star, Watkinsville, Ga.

Where things stand: The Georgia commit has barely heard from the new coaching staff, and as the days go by, it’s looking like Laguins won’t be a Bulldog come signing day. Jeremy Pruitt, who is now Alabama’s defensive coordinator, has been in contact with him and got Laguins to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 29.

Vosean Joseph, three-star, Miami

Where things stand: The Gators commit recently posted a picture on his Facebook account with a picture of him surrounded by a Florida and Alabama logo with the caption “decisions, decisions.” He will take an official visit to Alabama this weekend.

DB

Shyheim Carter, four-star, Kentwood, La.

Where things stand: Carter was once committed to Alabama, and it was looking like he was leaning toward Georgia or Ole Miss, but that changed when Pruitt got on board. Carter has told SEC Country that he considers Pruitt to be one of the best men around. It would not be surprising if he ended up back with the Tide.

Nigel Knott, four-star, Madison, Miss.

Where things stand: Alabama is expected to host Knott on an official visit, but he has not set any dates as of now. The Crimson Tide are believed to be the favorites to land Knott when he makes his commitment.

Nigel Warrior, four-star, Suwanee, Ga.

Where things stand: Warrior, who is the son of former Tennessee and NFL star Dale Carter, made some interesting comments to SEC Country about his lack of a relationship with Pruitt. With Mel Tucker leaving Alabama to become Georgia’s defensive coordinator, one would think that Warrior will stay in-state and choose the Bulldogs.

Jack Jones, four-star, Long Beach, Calif.

Where things stand: Alabama coaches are pitching Jones to be the next Cyrus Jones, and he likes what he’s hearing. The Crimson Tide staff has told Jones that he can play corner, wide receiver and be a kick/punt returner. The California native will visit Alabama this weekend. It will be his first trip to Tuscaloosa.

Jared Mayden, four-star, Sachse, Texas

Where things stand: Mayden recently de-committed from Oregon, and he’ll visit Alabama this weekend. Before committing to Oregon, Alabama was one of Mayden’s finalists. He’ll be one to monitor closely down the stretch.

Aaron Robinson, three-star, Deerfield Beach, Fla.

Where things stand: A source close to SEC Country believes the Gators commit will end up signing elsewhere. Right now, Robinson’s test scores are in question and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to qualify to enroll at Florida. He’ll visit Alabama on Jan. 29.

RB

Amir Rasul, four-star running back, Miami

Where things stand: Rasul, who has been committed to Florida State since July, will take an official visit to Alabama this weekend. As of now, he has not scheduled an official visit to the school he’s committed to, and that always raises red flags. He will be one to watch moving forward.

D’Vaughn Pennamon, three-star running back, Manvel, Texas

Where things stand: The Ole Miss commit will take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22, but he has maintained that he is 100 percent committed to the Rebels. Still, it’s never a bad thing to host a recruit that you hope to flip down the road.

Robert Washington, three-star running back, Mount Holly, N.C.

Where things stand: Washington has an official visit set up for the weekend before signing day, and that’s a big deal in recruiting because it’s the last school a recruit will see before signing his papers. He de-committed from Syracuse in August.

WR

A.J. Brown, four-star wide receiver, Starkville, Miss.

Where things stand: It would appear that Brown is down to Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss, though California is still in the mix. Brown will take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 15. He told SEC Country in December that he was drooling when he had a chance to meet Nick Saban in his office. Alabama’s chances to land their biggest remaining wide receiver target look promising.

Keith Gavin, four-star wide receiver, Crawfordville, Fla.

Where things stand: Gavin told SEC Country that Florida State is his dream school, but that isn’t stopping him from visiting Alabama on Jan. 15. The four-star prospect said he will choose between FSU and Bama when he does make his commitment. Right now, I think the former Seminoles commit will still end up with FSU. That could change if Alabama knocks his official visit out-of-the-park.

Ahmmon Richards, four-star wide receiver, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Where things stand: Richards will take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22, and the Crimson Tide are in his top four along with Auburn, Tennessee and Miami. He told SEC Country that he thinks if he did commit to Alabama, he would become a better person. He also compared Nick Saban’s discipline to his father’s, and he likes that.

Tyler Vaughns, four-star wide receiver, La Puente, Calif.

Where things stand: The nation’s No. 1 wide receiver told SEC Country that Alabama’s chances of flipping him from Southern Cal are good. He has an official visit set to Alabama on Jan. 22. He still needs to get some questions answered before he seriously considering backing off his pledge to the Trojans.

Mykel Jones, four-star wide receiver, Patterson, La.

Where things stand: Jones is down to Ole Miss, Tennessee and Alabama. Right now, it appears as if the Rebels have the inside track to land his commitment. But before he makes his decision, Alabama will host him on an official visit Jan. 15.

Korey Banks, three-star wide receiver, Tyrone, Ga.

Where things stand: The North Carolina commit picked up an offer from Alabama last month and set up an official visit to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 22. Right now, Banks may be an insurance plan if Alabama doesn’t get some of its bigger priorities at the position.

ATH

Mecole Hardman, Jr., five-star athlete, Bowman, Ga.

Where things stand: The nation’s No. 1 athlete named Alabama his leader during U.S. Army All-American week, but I still think Alabama is the school on the outside looking in. He has not set up an official visit to Alabama as of this time. When he does make his decision, I think Georgia will be the school he picks. He can play wide receiver, cornerback and kick/punt returner on the next level and excel at all three positions.

Demetris Robertson, five-star athlete, Savannah, Ga.

Where things stand: Robertson’s recruitment is interesting, to say the least. He has maintained that Stanford is his leader, though he has never visited the school. In order to take an official visit to Stanford, you need to have been admitted into the school, and he has not yet. He still needs higher test scores. If he does not qualify, look for Georgia and Alabama to be battling it out until signing day. Robertson was once committed to Alabama.

TE

Devin Asiasi, four-star tight end, Concord, Calif.

Where things stand: The four-star prospect from the West Coast told SEC Country during U.S. Army All-American week that he would no longer be taking his Jan. 22 official visit to Alabama. There’s no reason to be concerned about that, though. He canceled because he’s been there twice before. The Crimson Tide are in his top five and he likes the possibility of replacing O.J. Howard, if the national championship star decides to declare for the NFL draft.

Nick Eubanks, three-star tight end, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Where things stand: Eubanks is down to his final three schools: Alabama, Florida and USC. He’ll take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 15, but right now, Asiasi is viewed as the bigger priority to the Crimson Tide than Eubanks is.

OL

Landon Dickerson, four-star offensive lineman, Hudson, N.C.

Where things stand: Dickerson hasn’t really been connected all that much to Alabama, but he will visit on Jan. 22. He’s already visited Auburn and Florida State. He’ll visit Florida this weekend.

Donavaughn Campbell, four-star offensive lineman, Ponchatoula, La.

Where things stand: Campbell has been committed to LSU for more than a year now, and he has said all along that he will take his official visits. He’s going to do just that. Alabama will have its chance to give Campbell its recruiting pitch when he’s hosted for an official visit on Jan. 22.

Tramonda Moore, four-star offensive lineman, Oklahoma City

Where things stand: Oklahoma is the overwhelming favorite to land Moore when he makes his decision, but Alabama did receive some good news regarding its status with him. He was expected to announce his commitment this past Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American game, but he decided to hold off. He’ll visit on Jan. 22, and maybe that will give the Crimson Tide the boost it needed to get back in the mix.
