Javious Bardney didn't get many better birthday presents than the one he got from Nick Saban and the Alabama coaching staff.
The offensive lineman from Callaway High School in Jackson, Miss., got an offer from Alabama on Feb. 24.
"They offered me on my birthday," Bardney said. "It was like a blessing from God to receive that on my birthday."
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Bardney is rated as a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite. He has offers from Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and said he had interest from Auburn, Missouri, Arkansas and others.
He took a trip to Alabama not long after receiving the offer.
"It was great," Bardney said. "I liked the campus and I liked the experience around the campus. It was great talking to Nick Saban and the person who was recruiting me, Bo Davis, and talking to some of the people in the weight room.
"I like how they work hard every day. They've got a little thing called Fourth Quarter (offseason workout). I wanted to experience it, but I heard it was a pretty good workout."
Alabama sees Bardney as a versatile offensive lineman.
"They like the way I move my hips and my feet," Bardney said. "I can operate as a tackle or a guard. I can do either-or. I've got long arms and I'm athletic."
Bardney didn't grow up a fan of the in-state schools, he said. He liked watching Oregon, Alabama, Auburn and LSU, but Ole Miss has really caught his eye over the last year.
"I feel great about Ole Miss," Bardney said. "I've got a lot of teammates that go up there, four or five from my high school, three from my O-line, one receiver and one D-lineman. I'm very comfortable there. (having teammates there) might have a little impact on my signing, but it shouldn't though."
Bardney is also keeping a close eye on Mississippi State.
"It's great up there," he said. "I like the game environment and the campus. I like how they work in the offseason."
Bardney said that Alabama and Ole Miss are currently his top two, and he plans on making his decision on Signing Day.

Woody Barrett is expected to visit us Friday before heading to Auburn later in the day. He will spend the rest of the weekend in Auburn. It sounds like we might get a couple hour visit while Auburn gets a couple of days.

Considering Benito Jones was committed to Alabama... He says he grew up an Alabama fan. So who knows? I'm not sure what that really even means for some of these kids.

2017 QB: 'I LOVED IT UP THERE'
John Garcia Jr.John Garcia Jr.
Recruiting Analyst
First impressions are big for not only relationships, but for recruiting as well. Wednesday marked the initial impression of the University of Alabama for coveted class of 2017 quarterback Jack Walker, a legacy elsewhere in the SEC West.
Madison (Miss.) Central High quarterback Jack Walker wants to play in the SEC, so he has just under two years to make it happen.
ACC program Miami has already offered the class of 2017 prospect, whose father (Kevin) played for the homestate Bulldogs of Mississippi State.
On Wednesday, he delved deeper into the SEC West, with his first visit to Tuscaloosa. Along with his mother and sister, he got to see campus, the facilities, Bryant-Denny Stadium and sat down with Nick Saban.
"Yeah, I loved it up there," he said. "Coaches and facilities were great. I will be back this summer for a camp and Coach Saban said that's when they will really evaluate me and maybe offer me.
"It's (Alabama) one of my favorites right now."
Walker reports that the best part of the trip was the interaction not only with the champion coach, but with offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.
"Having a meeting with Coach Saban and coach Kiffin and getting to know them," he said. "Him (Saban) and Coach Kiffin really liked me. They said I'm one of their top targets for the 2017 class and want to come to a camp and a game."
At 6-foot-3, 208 pounds, the Magnolia State talent has coveted size and many of America's top programs have shown interest at this early juncture.
While Kevin Walker couldn't make this trip, the rest of the family on hand felt similarly about the Capstone as the family passer did.
"They loved it," he said. "Thought the coaches were awesome and said that would be a school they would want me to play for.
"We visited around campus and went to the stadium and that was awesome. We went to some of the stores and got some T-shirts. Campus was nice, too. I (was surprised) by the size of the campus and the weight room. They were bigger then any I've seen."
Aside from the elder Mr. Walker, there are plenty of other minor family ties to the conference the rising-junior wants to play in.
"I'm pretty much wide open," he said. "Leaning to play in the SEC right now. It's the toughest conference in college football. I always want to be playing against the highest competition."
Walker, who has also visited Mississippi State and Tennessee as a prospect, plans on seeing Clemson and Georgia next.

TROXELL'S A 4-STAR SOPHOMORE OL
Chad SimmonsChad Simmons
National Recruiting Analyst
This story was originally published on ScoutFootball.com.
Both Alabama and Auburn have offered in-state sophomore Austin Troxell and it is easy to see why. He is now a four-star on Scout...
Vitals
Prospect: Austin Troxell
Hometown: Madison, Ala.
High School: Madison County
Class: 2017
Position: OT
Size: 6-7/260
Ranking on Scout:
Recruiting: Alabama, Auburn, and Southern Miss have offered. Many others will. Grew up an Alabama fan and he plans to visit both in-state schools again this spring. Likely to come down to the Tide and the Tigers.
Scouting Report: Troxell stands out on tape first of all because of his size. He has the height and length you look for in an offensive tackle and he towers over many he plays with, and against. While he is young, he looks advanced in terms of technique and fundamentals. Troxell shoots his hands, drives defenders back, and he really stays in control while engaged. He really turns his shoulders, steers defenders, and he shows he can finish blocks. He is on the lean side, so there is some developing to do physically, but that will come. He is how you draw up younger offensive tackles -- long, lean, large hands, and good feet. He has good coordination and he really chops his feet well playing with good balance. His pad level is good, he is a natural bender, and Troxell is only going to get better.
