Maryland was seemingly out of it for St. John's defensive end Terrell Hall and linebacker Aaron Hansford earlier this fall, but we're hearing the Terps have made strides to get back in both recruitments -- especially Hall. Now, there's no telling if the Terps will be able to come all the way back for either or both of the duo, but we Hansford visited before the start of the dead period and Hall is said to be more receptive now that Aazaar Abdul-Rahim -- his contact at Alabama -- is on the staff.

There's mystery as to who leads for Hansford, while Maryland's stiffest competition for Hall could come from the Crimson Tide and Florida State. Don't be surprised if he takes an official to Maryland after the dead period ends in mid-January. Hall, the nation's No. 5 weakside defensive end, could come in and play right away with the early NFL departure of Yannick Ngakoue. Worth keeping tabs on both standouts at St. John's, where Randy Edsall's relationship had reportedly faded.

Not legit. Ole Miss getting everybody says their writers.

They signed kimdeache, megaquon, Tunsil, and Conner that one class.

This class I only see them getting Patterson, Little and Simmons. Are they in it for really anyone else?

NEW ORLEANS — Sci Martin recently committed to TCU, but his recruitment is far from over.

Martin, a 3-star weak-side defensive end from McDonogh 35 High School (New Orleans), has two official visits planned to two major SEC powers next month.

Martin has planned to go to Alabama on Jan. 15 and to LSU the weekend after on Jan. 22.

“I just want to see how those schools are,” Martin told SEC Country. “I feel solid about TCU, though.”

As it stands today, Martin ranked those three schools in the following order: TCU, LSU, then Alabama.

Martin committed to TCU on Dec. 9.

Alabama offered the pass-rusher six days later on Dec. 15. Martin picked up his offer from LSU on June 8 after participating in a summer camp.

He has taken unofficial visits to both SEC schools.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Martin is rated as the No. 35 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 43 weak-side defensive end in the nation.

MARRERO, La. — Christmas came a bit early for Arkansas linebacker commit De’Jon Harris.

Alabama swooped in to offer the 3-star linebacker, who also played quarterback, running back, punter and filled in as a return specialist his senior season at John Ehret High School (Marrero, La.).

The longtime Arkansas commit has been rock solid to his pledge with the Razorbacks. However, Harris’ recruitment is certainly in a tailspin after earning the offer.

“I never thought of it really,” Harris told SEC Country. “The Alabama offer came out of the blue, but it’s good to get the offer from ‘Bama. I was doing everything I could (this season). My hard work paid off, and it feels good to be rewarded from the top program in the country.”

Harris named Arkansas and Alabama as his top two choices. He also altered his official visit schedule, swapping out a visit to Colorado on Jan. 15 and will instead head out to Tuscaloosa, Ala. that weekend.

That will be an official visit, and Harris is anxious to get face-to-face time with the Crimson Tide coaches and better familiarize himself with the university.

“I haven’t thought about changing my mind, but I did schedule a visit up there,” Harris said. “I am thinking about the Alabama offer. I haven’t seen the facilities and I want to talk to the coaching staff and see the school.”

Harris met Alabama associate head coach Burton Burns, who is also the the team’s running backs coach.

Burns came to Ehret’s practices over the spring, but did not extend any offers.

Burns offer finally came in seven months later, but he did not specify whether Alabama was pursuing Harris as a linebacker or a running back.

Harris said he had interest in playing either position at the next level.

“Coach Burns came out here during the spring and we were going to go up there for one of the camps,” Harris explained. “They knew about me, but haven’t talked about it since they offered. They talked about both positions, but didn’t say which one specifically. It would probably still be at linebacker, but could be a running back. I’d be interested to hear what they have to say.”

The Alabama offer came in, which Harris admits to be blindsided by. He actually thought LSU would have extended an offer first.

“I would have thought LSU was going to offer,” Harris said. “I’ve been over their offer for a while.”

Alabama is the second SEC school to offer Harris, who has also generated interest from Texas A&M over the past few weeks. The Aggies have been making a push for him and teammate Michael Divinity, a 4-star linebacker who’s going to decide between LSU and Texas A&M in January.

Harris is still scheduled to make an official visit to Fayetteville, Ark. on Jan. 22.

Harris is the No. 45 player in the state of Louisiana and rated as the No. 34 inside linebacker in the nation.

I can guarantee that if any of the players below were wrapped in a big box beneath Nick Saban’s Christmas tree, there would be no returns.

These guys are the players Alabama writes down on its Christmas list and hopes that Santa Claus can deliver just one of these gifts.

You better believe the Crimson Tide staff won’t just have a couple of cookies and a glass of milk on the counter Thursday night for Santa. They are leaving the entire package of Oreos and a gallon of whole milk to get the players below.

Here’s who’s on Alabama’s wish list this recruiting season:

quote:

Ben Davis

Ranking: 5 stars
Position: ILB
Measurements: 6-foot-3, 240 pounds
Hometown: Gordo High School (Gordo, Ala.)

Schools to beat: Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Florida State
The nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker will have a lot to live up to if he does decide to become a member of the Crimson Tide.

His father just so happens to be Wayne Davis, Alabama’s all-time leading tackler. Davis played for Alabama from 1983-1986 and finished with 327 tackles.

Throughout Ben’s recruitment, Alabama was viewed as a slam dunk to land his commitment, but just a couple of weeks ago, he shocked many in the recruiting world when he publicly named UGA as his leader and Alabama No. 2. The main reason why UGA was named his top school is because of his relationship with new Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart, who was his primary recruiter when he was the defensive coordinator at Alabama.

Davis has already taken an official visit to UGA and has one set up to Alabama for the weekend before National Signing Day. Right now, it seems like those two schools will be fighting it out to land the Alabama legacy’s signature in February. But when it’s over, I think Alabama will get their wish to watch another Davis lead the Tide’s defense.

Mecole Hardman, Jr.

Ranking: 5 stars
Position: ATH
Measurements: 5-foot-10, 175 pounds
Hometown: Elbert County High School (Bowman, Ga.)
Schools to beat: Georgia, Tennessee

Mecole Hardman, Jr. keeps his favorite school tight to the vest. It’s unlikely he will ever publicly name a leader before National Signing Day, but we do know one school that is at least in his top three. That school is Alabama.

Hardman took an unofficial visit to Alabama for the LSU game on Nov. 7 and had nothing but positive things to say after that trip. He has told SEC Country that there isn’t a school that compares from purely a game day atmosphere standpoint to Alabama.

Alabama also has the Jeremy Pruitt factor going for it. Hardman has made it known that Pruitt may be the coach he is closest to in college football. When the Crimson Tide decided to fill Kirby Smart’s vacant defensive coordinator position with Pruitt, Alabama became an even bigger factor in Hardman’s recruitment. After all, the 5-star prospect pretty much made a public plea for UGA to keep Pruitt in place as the team’s DC.

I see Hardman as an Adoree Jackson type of player at the next level. Jackson, who plays for USC, plays offense, defense and is arguably the best return man in college football. Hardman is can’t-miss prospect, and if Alabama pulls him away from Georgia, I think Nick Saban would be a very, very happy man.

Derrick Brown

Georgia’s No. 1 prospect has long been believed to favor Auburn and Georgia more than Alabama, but things may have changed after Brown took an official visit to the campus a couple of weeks ago.

Brown told SEC Country that Alabama is now in a better position to land his services after visiting Tuscaloosa.

“The visit put them in a better place for me,” Brown said. “That’s for sure. The state of the program is great. I enjoyed getting to sit down and talk with (Alabama defensive line coach Bo) Davis. Being able to hang out with (Alabama defensive lineman) Jonathan Allen was really cool, too.”

He is a prospect who can walk onto any campus this upcoming summer and compete for a starting job from day one.

Rashan Gary

Position: DT

Hometown: Paramus Catholic High School (Paramus, N.J.)
Schools to beat: Michigan, Ole Miss, Auburn

It seems like Alabama has lost some steam with the consensus No. 1 prospect in the country.

His mother, Jennifer Coney, had some interesting comments on Alabama.

“I think if your whole focus, the only thing you are focusing on is being a great football player, and while you are at it are going to get a degree, this is just my opinion,” Coney told SEC Country. “If you want to be a great football player and that’s your primary, primary focus is to play football and do it at a high level, and while you are at it get a degree, that’s Alabama.”

That’s not to say she did not enjoy her trip to Tuscaloosa when she and Gary visited in April, but it’s clear from her words that Alabama has some catching up to do. As it stands now, it seems like Michigan would be the team to beat.

So she says if you want to be a great football player and earn a degree you should go to Alabama? And that's a bad thing?

What the frick does she think her son is being recruited for? Schools sure as shite don't want him for his reading ability.

Isaac Nauta

Nauta recently released his top three, and Alabama made the cut along with Georgia and Michigan.

Alabama picked up its recruitment in late July for the nation’s No. 1 tight end shortly after he de-committed from Florida State.

Right now, it seems like Georgia has a large lead over both Michigan and Alabama. For one reason, one of his good friends, quarterback Jacob Eason, reaffirmed his commitment to Georgia. Nauta has made it clear that he would love to play with him in college.

“I think it would be awesome,” Eason told DawgNation. “The number one tight end in the country. Huge guy. Big target to throw to. It would be a dream come true to play with him.”

“Eason is a cool and funny guy and a great quarterback who hasn’t even reached his potential yet,” Nauta said. “Eason is going to be a baller on the next level. I mean, everyone wants to play with a great quarterback because they ultimately are in the driver’s seat in big-time games.”

Nauta will announce his commitment at the Army All-American bowl on Jan. 9.

what a weird thing for a mom to say. what does she want, for him to waste his talent, get hooked on spice and jump out a window, and not earn a degree? usually its the recruit that wants that stuff, and the parent loves what bama represents. this is just a weird recruiting cycle all around.

do want. hes got a college ready body now. the way we are coaching up dline since bo davis came back, he would be a monster for us, would most likely be a 2nd team guy from day 1 (1st team is going to be hand, payne, and tomlinson, which is going to be great)

The only thing I can think of is maybe she buys into the fambly barbecue stuff AU and, I guess, OM sell. Instead of "we're going to develop you into a better football player, a better man, and help you earn a degree," it's "I'm your crazy uncle, you're going to be my adoptive nephew and we're going to have family barbecues."

From a poster on tLSUrb: Dylan Moses's dad had this to say:

quote:

"New We had no idea you people felt so negatively toward me and my family. Well I guess I can have Dylan scratch LSU off his list. That way we won't have anymore confusion. I apologize on behalf of my family for any inconveniences that we caused but I do look forward to seeing him line up against your team. If God says the same. Good luck, God's Speed, and we'll see you guys in 2017-20...Peace"
