SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Some of the nation's top players participated in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas last week. Below is a list of which players performed best throughout the week of practice and in the game.

2. RB B.J. Emmons

Morganton (N.C.) Freedom

Recruiting wrap: Emmons is committed to Alabama.

Performance: Crimson Tide fans should be very excited about Emmons. He has the power to run with toughness between the tackles, the vision and experience to know when and where to cut back and the speed to get to the edge of the defense. Emmons can take it the distance from anywhere on the field while making defenders miss along the way.

So Emmons was the #2 Top Performer, at any position, during the week. The 5-star USA Today 1st Team All-American, Tavian Feaster, didn't even make the list.

Two new five-star prospects spearhead the Rivals.com postseason JUCO100 rankings, including a change at the top of the list.

Weakside defensive Jonathan Kongbo, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect from Yuma (Ariz.) Arizona Western C.C., headlines the rankings at No. 1 after a dominant season. The Tennessee commit was credited with 16 tackles for a loss, including 11 sacks, in 11 games after transferring from Wyoming, where he redshirted as a freshman in 2014. But aside from his productivity, it's his potential that should have Volunteer fans excited for the next few years.

"Athletically, Kongbo is off the charts," Rivals.com national recruiting director Mike Farrell said. "You can see on film that he's a guy that plays as an outside edge, he can stand up and he's super explosive. He uses his hands extremely well for a kid that's still learning how to play football. He's got the highest ceiling of anyone in this junior college class. He can be that freak of nature that the NFL will fall in love with if everything goes perfectly at the next level."

Brooklyn (N.Y.) ASA College offensive tackle Charles Baldwin, who last week signed mid-year enrollment paperwork with Alabama, also earned a fifth star and checks in at No. 2 on the board.

"Baldwin is really solid technically," Farrell said. "He probably won't put other guys on their backs too often, but you expect that more at the high school level anyway. He's very good when he resets his feet. Even if you knock him off balance for a moment, he is quick to react. I don't see any weaknesses in his game and I know he can hang with SEC competition with the fact that, at this point, he's a highly developed pass-protection guy."

Offensive tackle Garett Bolles, wide receiver Taj Williams and running back Mark Thompson round out the top five. Bolles has already officially visited Michigan State, Oregon and Arkansas, and has locked in a trip to Georgia for late January. Williams and Thompson signed with TCU and Florida, respectively.

In all, the rankings feature 28 four-star recruits, including top-rated quarterback Jérod Evans, a dual-threat prospect who signed with Virginia Tech last week. Evans sits at No. 8 overall and the two other four-star signal callers, Troy Williams (Utah) John Franklin III (Auburn), are No. 25 and No. 30, respectively.

"It's the first time there has been a coaching change at Virginia Tech in forever, but based on how the coaches used Paxton Lynch at Memphis, the offense is perfect for a guy like Evans," Farrell said. "That offense allows him to utilize his athleticism, get outside and create things. Troy Williams has a very strong arm and he's going into a power offense where he could do things off play action, bring those linebackers and safeties in close, and then throw it over the top. Franklin is not a tremendously polished passer, but he's a good fit in that Auburn offense. People are counting on him to be the future since the quarterback situation there is not a good one."

Offensive lineman Malcolm Pridgeon, who visited Florida earlier this month, is No. 6 on the list and JaMarcus King, who signed with South Carolina, is the top overall cornerback at No. 7 in the rankings. After Evans, wide receiver Jeff George (Tennessee) and linebacker Tyree Horton (TCU) close out the top 10.

"It's a down year with skill-position guys overall, at least at the top," Farrell said. "It's a big year for linemen and that's probably more important to schools because it's a harder position to find a guy and just plug in. There should be some immediate contributors there."

Can someone with a Rivals account summarize this article?

JUCO Lineman Talks Alabama Offer

I don't know who this is referring to, but the part I can read says it's a "very interesting" story.

I'm guessing it's about Kongbo.

Actually about Jamar King, another JUCO kid (well actually 26 years old). Worked for a couple of years, then decided to go back to school. Looks pretty good on film.

What did he say about talking to Saban?

Here are his profile and highlights:

Jamar King - JUCO Highlights

ETA: I think he killed that poor kid playing QB at the 1:19 mark.

'Tis the season for a frenzied final push to national signing day.

As many of us prepare to wind down for some holiday-inspired relaxation, college football coaching staffs continue to ramp up efforts on the recruiting trail.

Bowl games take center stage for the next few weeks, but, behind the scenes, plenty of focus has shifted toward Feb. 3, when high school seniors finalize collegiate plans. For uncommitted prospects expected to enroll early, each day is now a pivotal part of the process.

While fans won't be able to truly enjoy these new roster additions until next season and beyond, here's a look at how the country's top 25 recruiting classes could make folks a bit merrier.

Programs listed in order of appearance in 247Sports' composite class rankings.

5. Alabama: Sign 10-Star LB Duo of Ben Davis and Lyndell "Mack" Wilson

If Nick Saban secures a sixth straight No. 1 recruiting class in Tuscaloosa, you can bet homegrown talent will play a pivotal role in that late push. Linebackers Ben Davis and Lyndell "Mack " Wilson, each a 5-star talent, remain uncommitted, but Alabama is favored to sign both playmakers in 247Sports' Crystal Ball.

Davis, son of all-time Crimson Tide tackles leader Wayne Davis, is projected to land with Alabama by 100 percent of experts' predictions. Wilson, the nation's top-rated outside linebacker, is predicted to do the same by 74 percent of projections.

The duo has discussed teaming up in college, and Tuscaloosa appears to easily be the most likely place for that to happen. Other mutual overlapping interests include Georgia and LSU, while Florida now looks like a strong contender for Wilson.

Despite natural allegiances to his father's alma mater, Davis isn't restricting himself. He spent official visits at Georgia and LSU this season, while trips to Alabama, Auburn and Notre Dame are on tap for January.

"My dad will support whatever decision I make 110 percent," Davis told Bleacher Report. "He hasn't really pushed me toward one school or another. He just wants to make sure I'm comfortable with the situation wherever I go."

In less than two months, the book will close on the class of 2016 and the focus will shift to which talented freshmen will contribute on the field next fall.

Even though a number of prospects are still unclear with their future landing spots, there’s a reason coaches around the country will be busy battling over the right to land a handful of elite blue chips who could make an instant impact.

From standout quarterbacks who will enroll early to imposing defenders stepping into favorable situations in terms of playing time, a handful of standouts have a chance to make a name for themselves in 2016.

Which 2016 recruits fit the bill and are most likely to start as freshmen?

5-star DT Derrick Brown

Measurables: 6’4”, 318 pounds

Rank: No. 3 DT, No. 9 overall

Status: Considering Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State and Tennessee

Case to Start Early

Given the level of physicality in the trenches in the SEC, it takes a special prospect to be able to play as a freshman in one of the toughest leagues in the country.

At 6’4”, 318 pounds, 5-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown is far from the average freshman.

According to MaxPreps, Brown was an unstoppable force as a senior at Lanier High School in Buford, Georgia, as he recorded 106 tackles—including 42 for loss with 12 sacks and an interception.

It was a season that helped him become the only defensive player named as a finalist for the U.S. Army All-American Player of the Year award, as detailed by Bleacher Report’s Tyler Donohue.

With his size and ability to wreak havoc in the opponent’s backfield, Brown is the type of prospect who is too talented to keep off the field regardless of where he ends up.

Quinnen Williams could not believe that Will Muschamp was once again a head coach.

Williams, a 4-star Alabama defensive tackle commit from Wenonah High School (Birmingham, Ala.), was once committed to Auburn. He says talk of Muschamp wanting another job never came up when Williams was committed to the Tigers.

“I didn’t think he wanted to be a head coach again anytime soon,” Williams told SEC Country. “I thought he wanted to build something special with Auburn. We’ve had long conversations when I was committed to Auburn, and him leaving for a head coaching job never came up. He was always talking about building Auburn’s defense.”

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder said Muschamp was still recruiting him even after he flipped to Alabama back in June.

Williams wasn’t really listening to his recruiting pitch, though. He says he is 100 percent committed to the Crimson Tide and is looking forward to joining the team next season.

Below, you can find a full Q&A session with Williams, who reveals the best player he went up against this season, who he wants to join the Tide and one surprising thing that most fans won’t know about him.

Q: Who do you think will be the biggest surprise to commit to Alabama next month? And why?

A: I’m not sure about who will be a surprise commit, but I would love to play with (nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker) Ben Davis. We formed a great bond at the Alabama vs. Mississippi all-star game. He’s a very down to earth guy and a hard worker on the field.

Q: Which schools are still recruiting you even though you are committed? How do you feel about that?

A: Florida has been in contact a lot but I’m 100 percent committed to Alabama. They want me to visit their campus and see what they have to offer and see how I fit into their scheme. I can play defensive end or defensive tackle in their defensive scheme.

Q: Who was the best player you went up against this season and why?

A: It was (Alabama offensive line commit) Deonte Brown in the (Alabama-Mississippi) all-star practice. He is a huge person and has great feet. He can move his huge frame quickly. I think he can be a very special player at the next level with his size, quickness and great footwork, plus with great coaching from (Alabama offensive line coach Mario) Cristobal and coach (Nick) Saban, he’ll be a really good player.

Q: Will you visit any other schools besides Alabama in January?

A: No.I have one official visit planned and that’s on the 15th to Alabama.

Q: What are you most looking forward to getting this holiday season?

A: I’m looking forward to seeing my family happy this holiday season and of course getting my new iPhone 6. It’s really nice. The camera is awesome on it.

Q: Besides your gifts, what are you most looking forward to doing this holiday season?

A: I’m really looking forward to my annual family Christmas party. We have a lot of fun. We cook, eat good, sing Christmas Carols and exchange gifts. We have a different theme every year and this year we’re having a bonfire Christmas party. I’m excited about that.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A: One thing people will be surprised to know about me is that I took piano lessons and I love to play it. I love music. My grandfather bought me a piano, so I’m always playing it in our den. I love playing gospel. I also love playing Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon In The Sky.”

Williams is rated as the nation’s No. 25 defensive tackle and is the state of Alabama’s No. 5 overall prospect.

We have offered De'jon Harris a 3*** LB from Louisiana, does this have any meaning in regards to Wilson?

Per some dude on BOL, he switched to playing hback midway through his senior season, and that is what we are interested in. This guy on BOL also expects him to be in our class FWIW.

The posters on the LSURb are pretty pissed at Miles and Co. for not offering this kid FWIW. They seem to think he is really good.

This should make the LSURb posters happy:

quote:

Alabama has extended a Christmas Eve offer to Kristian Fulton, a 2016 four-star cornerback from Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel, according to his Twitter account.

Earlier on Thursday, the Crimson Tide extended an offer to De'jon Harris, a 2016 three-star linebacker and Arkansas commit from Marrero (La.) John Ehret.

Alabama was left without a true cornerback commitment in the '16 cycle after four-star cornerback Shyheim Carter decommitted in August.

The 6-foot, 177-pound Fulton, claims over 25 offers and currently has an official visit set up for Arkansas on Jan. 22.
