Free Al.com Content

quote:

The case for Justyn Ross to be the state's top prospect in the class of 2018 is a strong one, as the Central-Phenix City standout earned offers from Alabama and Florida on Thursday.

"Those were some very big offers for me," Ross said.

Auburn offered Ross in October. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Ross is already a four-star recruit by 247Sports. Kentucky, Mississippi State and Missouri have all offered.

"Justyn Ross is a hot prospect because Justyn Ross is a player," Central coach Jamey DuBose told AL.com earlier this year. "I don't know how to sum that up any better. Justyn Ross is probably one of the best football players I've ever had a chance to be around."

Ross suffered a torn MCL in his knee, but should return to the basketball court by Christmas. Ross is a two-sport standout for the Red Devils.

"The doctors are surprised to see how fast I'm recovering," Ross said.

How many unanimous AA LBs have we had now? 4? How can anyone see that and now tell their child to go to Bama?

Yeah. Kirby is an exceptional recruiter and an exceptional coach. He's solid at evaluation and losing him hurts at some level, regardless of if we want to admit it.

Pruitt lessens the impact on recruiting, but Saban has to give the OK before an offer is extended anyway, so the "evaluation" aspect isn't as significant as one might think.

We can thank him for Yeldon and Henry. CNS didn't want to sign Yeldon. Pruitt had to basically beg him to sign him. CNS also took a ton of convincing to sign Henry as a RB.

Not to mention Jalen Ramsey, Nate Andrews, and Demarcus Walker.

He would. He is ideal at FSU, but he is a freelancer big time. I've watched a good bit of his film.

Not his fault that they squandered opportunities. They were two talented guys that didn't want to change.

I wasn't convinced that either Yeldon or Henry were legit RBs coming out of HS. Yeldon ran straight up and Henry was projected at LB. Guess that's why I am not a coach.

Isn't that part of the evaluation though? Just playing devils advocate here but "risk" is all part a coaches roll. Just not act like any of the names mentioned where diamonds in the rough, I mean anyone can see the guys got talent but do they fit the mold and can they mentally handle the process is all part of it. Nobody bats 100% and I'm sure if you look back at both guys they will each have guys they hit home runs on and guys both over evaluated. Saying one is better then another is a silly comparison

You can thank Ryan Anderson for Yeldon. TJ was never convinced AU was THE place for him and Anderson stayed on him like crazy about it. Pruitt obviously played a big role, but Anderson played a massive role.

CNS didn't want to sign Yeldon

this is simply not true. He wanted Yeldon as did every coach in the country.

I don't believe this to be true either. I've got a friend in football ops. Was there for years, left, came back. not hard to figure out who it is. Saban wasn't convinced that LB wouldn't be Henry's best long-term spot, but he was always willing to let him start at RB and prove his case if that's where DH wanted to be.

Not. At. All.

I've been around long enough that you long-termers can decide what you want to believe from me and what you want to ignore.
