Defensive backs coach Mel Tucker will see Bama OG commit Chris Owens tomorrow. Owens told BamaOnline tonight that he's taking his OV to T-Town next weekend.

I'm reading the UGA247 board, and some of them genuinely think they will land Mack Wilson.

I know it's early, but I'm pretty sure Mack should win troll of the year. Although Eason is making a decent push with his antics at UF.

I think with Muschamp leaving Auburn and Gus' seat being white hot, we will flip Davidson and Wilson will come as well. Ben Davis is putting the "Marlon Humphrey" to us at the moment, but he'll sign with Alabama too.

Just my opinion of course.

Kirby Smart was announced as the next coach at Georgia on Sunday, but what's next for the long-time Alabama assistant?

There have been reports that Smart will coach Alabama's defense in its College Football Playoff matchup with Michigan State on Dec. 31, and Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban confirmed those rumblings Sunday afternoon.

"Kirby's gonna do what he does over there for the next week or 10 days, and when we come back and start practice, he's gonna come back and do what he does here," Saban said Sunday in a teleconference he shared with Michigan State's Mark Dantonio. "I know the professional integrity that Kirby has and the commitment that he has to our players, as well as his new job. I feel very comfortable that he'll be able to manage that, and I think the University of Georgia's been first class in how they've handled this transition in helping us both be able to do this the way we're gonna do it."

Alabama will have the next week off because of the university's final exams, but it will reconvene the following week to begin preparing for the third-ranked Spartans. The Cotton Bowl semifinal will kick off at 7 p.m. CT on New Year's Eve.

But Smart wasted no time in hitting the recruiting trail for the Bulldogs, already making in-home visits with UGA commits.

Disclaimer: I'm no insider, but i have a friend gets a little scoop every once and a while, so before you start down voting about this info, understand I find it hard to believe. He told me that Cochran will be back next year, and here's the hard part to believe (for me anyway) Kiffin will be back. Everything I have heard up till now is Kiffin would not be back. So take it for what it's worth.

I'm okay with this.

Jennifer Coney, the mother of No. 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary, said Sunday while she “loves Auburn,” she isn’t yet sure how much of a factor the Tigers will be moving forward with her son, a 5-star defensive tackle at Paramus Catholic (N.J.).

The reason: How outgoing Tigers defensive coordinator Will Muschamp handled his departure, she told AuburnUndercover.

“Last Monday, Coach (Lance Thompson and Coach Muschamp came to the house. I was hearing all kinds of coaching things so I asked them,” Coney recalled. "Coach Thompson said he loves Auburn and plans on being there. Coach Muschamp said the same thing. He said he had put his family through a lot. He had moved nine times. He had moved his kids from school to school and wanted some stability. He said he promised his son stability through high school. He knew he wasn’t going anywhere — Auburn was where he’s going to stay. Of course, that was a lie."

She continued, “Now I know, If you get a head coaching position, of course you might leave. But he should have been honest. He should have said, ‘Well, if I get the opportunity.’ I would respect that. I would have understood. It’s a job for them. But he didn’t. Muschamp is a liar. A pure liar. … If I had his number I’d call him."

According to Coney, she spoke via telephone with Tigers coach Gus Malzahn on Sunday.

“He said he was blindsided,” Coney said. “He seemed like he was being a genuine guy, too. They all do. Muschamp seems like a genuine guy. (Malzahn) didn’t tell me when he found out, so I don’t know. I like him. They said they were coming this week, but who’s going?"

Gary and his mother officially visited Auburn last weekend and had a “good time," she said. While Michigan holds a big lead in the 247Sports Crystal Ball, sources at Auburn thought post-visit the Tigers were possibly in his top two.

“There’s nothing wrong with Auburn,” Coney said. “I love Auburn."

The question now: Can Auburn remain a contender?

"I don’t know,” Coney said. “I'm in the business world. If you bring representatives to me and one of your representatives tells you a blatant lie and almost immediately you find out they’re lying, well, what does that say about your organization?” Coney said. “In doing that, you make Auburn look bad. I’m not saying anything bad about Auburn. I like Auburn. I can see my son at Auburn. But these things happen for a reason. It just made me and Rashan realize, do not commit because a coaching staff is great. You cannot depend on these people. Am I upset at Auburn? No. I’m hoping they’re telling the truth when they said they were blindsided by this. I’d think they’d be smarter than to send him on a recruiting trip knowing he wasn’t going to be there. Thompson and (defensive line coach Rodney Garner) could have come.”

According to Coney, she still hasn't heard from Alabama or Georgia, two other contenders, since coaching changes were made or announced. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who lost defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin in recent days, “called me Thursday and explained to me how it all works and what a defensive coordinator does."

Coney, like others, will wait to see who Auburn hires to replace Muschamp, then move forward.

“This is my son — I want my son around a good group of men who are accountable men,” Coney said. “In Rashan’s life, I want him to be accountable for everything he does and everything he says. I’m giving him to you — give him good character. Good morals."

Just moments after being announced as the next head coach at the University of Georgia, Kirby Smart was on the phone with a five-star prospect.

U.S. Army All-American Demetris Robertson (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Christian) informed Dawgs247 that Smart spoke to him between noon and 1 p.m. Sunday.

"He just wanted to inform me that he's officially the head coach at Georgia," Robertson said. "He wants me to lead UGA'S class for the skill position guys."

The former Alabama commitment has built a close relationship with the former Crimson Tide defensive coordinator.

"I'm very excited," Robertson said of Smart's arrival at Georgia. "Coach Smart and I have a great relationship with each other. I trust his word on everything. We can talk about anything."

The next order of business for Smart will be hiring his coordinators.

"He said there is going to be a new offensive coordinator, but he didn't say anything about the defensive coordinator," Robertson said. "He said that's not final yet, but he will let me know in a few days or so."

Stanford has long been the leader for the No. 1 athlete in the country, according to 247Sports.

"Georgia is pretty high now," Robertson said. "I can't say an order, but they are up there for me. Kirby being at Georgia most definitely helps them. Just coming from where is coming from is a plus because he coached underneath Coach Nick Saban."

Robertson says he thinks he will meet Smart this week.

Under no circumstances should we allow Will or Kirby to grab Burton Burns.

I'm fine with Kiffin coming back. I didn't see Saban telling him to take a hike because he likes girls anyway.

247Sports' Otis Kirk caught up with White after his official visit to Arkansas over the weekend. Looks like he's considering going the early enrollee route, so he may not have time to take his official visits to Alabama and Ole Miss in January as originally planned.

quote:

"I’m not going to be able to take the official to Ole Miss, but I’ve been there so much and I’ve been to Alabama so much,” White said. “Those were the only two schools that were my officials in January. I took the Florida State one and I’m taking the LSU one so I think I’m good enough that I can decide without an official because I’m so comfortable at all the schools, This one was much needed because I’ve only been up here three times so this was a good one.”

The SEC Championship between No. 2 Alabama and No. 18 Florida already has high stakes. The Crimson Tide are playing to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff, and the Gators are trying to win a surprise SEC title in coach Jim McElwain’s first season.

But off the field, the game took on extra meaning for avid followers of the teams’ recruiting fortunes. Shortly after kickoff Saturday afternoon, one of the nation’s top recruits revealed via tweet that Alabama and Florida are finalists for his services.

Montgomery, Alabama linebacker Lyndell “Mack” Wilson tweeted his top two destinations were the Crimson Tide and Gators. That’s significant. Wilson is rated as a 5-star prospect and the nation’s No. 12 overall prospect per 247Sports, as well as the nation’s top outside linebacker prospect and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama.

Not rooting for anyone on this SEC championship. My TOP 2 ????

— ?? (@Iam__MW3) December 5, 2015
He had previously tweeted Thursday that his top choices were Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Southern California, a powerful list in its own right. But the decision to list a top two is big news for the Tide and Gators.

Wilson would be an excellent fit in either program’s Class of 2016 as an immediate impact player. He is an excellent tackler, with great quickness and pursuit skills. He stands 6’2”, 220 pounds and has great athleticism, lateral movements and the ability to play in space.

Alabama currently has the nation's No. 4 recruiting class, per 247Sports, and has a pair of linebacker commitments in 4-star Jaquan Yulee and 3-star Riley Cole. Florida has the nation's No. 9 recruiting class with a pair of linebacker commits in 4-star Jeremiah Moon and 3-star Vosean Joseph.

He was originally expected to commit on Friday, a change from his original plans of committing on national signing day, per Bleacher Report’s Tyler Donohue. But it is clear that Wilson is quickly narrowing his suitors. While Alabama has some upheaval on its defensive staff following Kirby Smart’s reported departure for Georgia per ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach, it appears either the Tide or Gators could get a major boost to their recruiting classes in short order.
