Cam Akers, RB, Clinton (Miss.) –

Akers, one of the top prospects in the 2017 class, is one of three running backs committed to Alabama in the cycle. The four-star back has continued taking other visits despite his commitment, and will be one to watch over the course of the next year. Akers, too, has taken a role as recruiter for the Tide, but is another prospect MSU won’t back down from.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but last week one of the Maryland 247 mods CB'd him to Maryland.

Here's a very, VERY interesting blurb from the USCw 247 site:

quote:

— Five-star Neville (La.) defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence will make his decision on December 14. There was chatter that USC was in the mix for Lawrence, but it appears his top schools are Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Ohio State.

No LSU?

Ryan Bartow on Abdul Adams:

quote:

Running back Abdul Adams (Durham, N.C./Hillside) and Michigan State parted ways this afternoon.

"I'd like to thank all the fans, coaches and people at Michigan State," Adams said.

That means the nation's No. 11 running back, per 247Sports, is back on the open market.

Adams said he's been hearing from Alabama, Oklahoma, Maryland and Indiana "consistently" throughout the fall.

"They are all good programs with good football and good academics," Adams said.

He officially visited Michigan State September 12.

Adams hopes to set up an official visit for December and three for consecutive weekends in January before making his college choice.

He doesn't have any official visit dates or locations set at this time.

He's unofficially visited Maryland and Alabama.

"I'm hearing from those four schools - Alabama, Maryland, Oklahoma and Indiana - all pretty much the same," Adams said. "I'm open to all four of those schools and to anyone else that starts contacting me as well."

Basically, his recruitment has hit a restart.

There's certain to be more suitors going forward as well as Adams has rushed 101 times for 1,108 yards including an 11 yards per carry average with 11 touchdowns in seven games as a senior.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has 4.51-second speed.

We haven't even finished the 2016 class, but some guy on BOL has already done a mock class for 2017. Here it is:

quote:

Could the Class of 17' challenge the 08ers for recruiting class prowess?

It's early & the cruitn' landscape will change dramatically as it always does but how would this potential list (with projected 17' grade) compare to the Julio's of 08 ?

(NOTE:after doing a double take at this list, Georgia better hurry up & ink Kirby Smart)

1.QB 4*Jake Fromm, GA (commit)
2.RB 5*Najee Harris, CA (commit)
3.RB 4*Cam Akers, MS (commit)
4.RB 4*Brian Robinson, AL (commit)
5.WR 4*Jerry Jeudy, FL or Ath 4*Henry Ruggs, AL
6.WR 4*Nico Collin, AL
7.WR 4*Chad Townsend, AL (commit)
8.TE
9.OT 4*Alex Leatherwood, FL (commit)
10.OT 4*Austin Troxell, AL
11.OT 4*Kendall Randolph, AL or
12.OG 4*Netori Johnson, GA
13.DT 5*Marvin Wilson, TX
14.DT 4*Aubrey Solomon, GA
15.DT 3*Neil Farrell, AL
16.DE 5*Jarez Parks, GA
17.DE 4*Ryan Johnson, AL or 4*Josh Kaindoh, FL
18.ILB 5*Nate McBride, GA
19.ILB 5*Markail Benton, AL
20.OLB 4*Jaden Hunter, GA
21.CB 5*William Poole III, GA
22.CB
23.Ath 5*Deangelo Gibbs, GA
24.S- 4*Xavier McKinney, GA (commit)
25.Ath 4*Malcolm Askew, AL

Take Askew off of there and I think he's got a pretty good projection.

Trey Blount visited Alabama for the Arkansas game on Oct. 10. It could also be the last time he washed his right hand.

Blount, a 4-star wide receiver from Pace Academy (Atlanta), told SEC Country that he had a chance to meet Alabama coach Nick Saban and shake his hand.

“It was very exciting,” Blount said. “I just couldn’t stop smiling. I had this expression like I wasn’t going to wash my hands.”

Alabama is one of five schools that are standing out to the receiver. UGA, South Carolina, Michigan State and Miami are also in the mix right now.

When you speak with Blount, it’s very obvious that the Crimson Tide are one of his top teams right now.

“Coach Nick Saban is definitely a legend. I could see why they are so successful,” he said.

In the video above, Blount answered the following questions:

1) What has Alabama wide receivers Coach Billy Napier told him throughout his recruiting process?
2) He doesn’t have a committable offer from UGA. What’s the hold up?
3) Which school is he visiting next?
4) Why does he want to major in electrical engineering?

Reports have surfaced in the last few days indicating Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal has emerged as the leading candidate in Miami’s search for its next head coach.

It’s unknown the level of interest Cristobal has in the opening, but it’s easy to imagine what kind of effect his departure could have on a handful of recruits he’s pursued in both the 2016 and 2017 recruiting cycles.

Cristobal is held in high regard across the country for his recruiting ability, and just last year he was named 247Sports.com’s Recruiter of the Year for his role in securing 10 commitments for the Crimson Tide.

But one current Alabama commit said he won’t waver on his commitment if Cristobal moves on.

Netori Johnson (Ellenwood, Ga.), a four-star offensive guard, told SEC Country on Wednesday that he committed to Alabama — not a coach.

The 6-foot-5, 330-pound junior from Cedar Grove High School still believes Alabama’s style of play along the offensive line — under Cristobal’s direction or not — would remain intact.

“At the end of the day, I’m not going to college for Cristobal,” Johnson said. “Right now, he’s the offensive line coach. I would love to be a part of what he’s teaching. But at the same time, I’m looking at the program and what it can make me. If he leaves, it wouldn’t change my mind a bit.”

What could change his mind, though, is where his teammate Antwuan Jackson, a four-star defensive tackle, ends up. Back in September, Johnson told SEC Country in an interview that he had an interest in both Auburn and UGA.

Coincidentally, Jackson holds Auburn in high regard.

“Where he goes, that’ll have a big impact on me, though,” Johnson said. “Antwuan is like a brother. I go against him every day. He makes me better. When I first got there, he would whip up on me.”

Johnson admitted he would give whichever school Jackson commits to a look. The two have had conversations — some serious, others not as much — about playing together. And the same can be said of his other teammate Tre Shaw, a 2017 cornerback.

“Where I go, I might have a strong impact on (Shaw),” Johnson said. “Or he may have a strong impact on me,
too.”

Johnson is rated as the No. 12 player in Georgia in 2017.

Committed or not, Velus Jones’ final list of schools is starting to round into shape.

The 3-star receiver from Saraland High School (Saraland, Ala.) said he is primarily considering Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Southern California. He committed to the Trojans in April. Jones said that fifth spot in his top five could soon be occupied by a number of schools, including Louisville or Minnesota. Both have shown recent interest.

Alabama is a strong suitor. Jones has visited Tuscaloosa, Ala. several times. Yet there’s one hold up for the Tide to be a finalist.

“Alabama hasn’t offered me (a scholarship) yet so they’re not in my top five,” Jones said.

Jones was at the Alabama-LSU game last weekend.

“It was a great experience with both teams,” he said. “I’ve never been to an LSU game. I can say it was the nicest game I’ve ever been too. It was an exciting game. I’ve never been a part of anything like that.”

As for that elusive Alabama offer, Jones said the Crimson Tide coaches were encouraging when he visited with them last weekend.

“They were saying do good in my Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and they said they would contact me,” he said.

All the while, Jones has maintained he’s committed to Southern California.

“I haven’t de-committed to USC or anything,” the 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect said.

Jones said he plans to visit Mississippi State for the Alabama game on Saturday.

“That’s a great school,” he said. “The coaches, they love me and they believe in me. The fact that they offered me and treated me so well. I have a chance to start with a lot of wide receivers leaving and the relationship is good with the coaches. Starkville is a great atmosphere.”

The visit to Starkville, Miss. won’t be an official. Jones said Mississippi State coaches want him to come back for an official visit to Starkville in January.

Jones now has a scholarship offer from Oklahoma. He has scheduled an official visit to see the Sooners for the TCU game on Nov. 21.

“Oklahoma is great,” Jones said. “I can’t wait to get up there. They talk about me coming in and doing some big things.”

Jones said he’ll take an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Nov. 28 to see the Vols host Vanderbilt. Jones has developed a strong relationship with Tennessee receiver coach Zach Azzanni.

“Tennessee is a great school,” Jones said. “Coach Z, me and him, we have a good time every time we’re talking. I just got to get up there and see those guys. He told me I would love it up there.”

Jones is the No. 70 receiver in the nation and the No. 13 prospect in Alabama.

Little now has an OV scheduled to OM the last weekend of January. As if we didn't already know where he was going, this pretty much confirms it.

Amazing we had a huge game for the program and back in the middle of a another NC run and huge recruiting weekend with no one committing, on commit watch, or anyone really putting us on top. Sort of shocked TBH.

I wonder if our staff has some that want to commit in a holding pattern.

digs already had his date set to announce and he announced before the game.

I assume the staff is holding spots and looking to bring in big targets left on non-football weekends to actually spend time with them and their family.
