This might be another Nkemdiche recruitment where the kid garners offers for all of his teammates only to choose to play elsewhere.

Either way, I'm not a fan of drama-filled recruitments for QBs. I'd rather have our QB be the leader/recruiter for the 2016 class. Other drama-filled recruitments can be fun to watch and participate in but not for quarterbacks.

I can't really recall the last big miss before they got there. Maybe Deandre Brown but he went to USM. We got Johns, Grant, Norwood who were all top 5 players in the state

DAVIS ON TIDE, PACKAGES DEALS AND A TIMELINE
John Garcia Jr.John Garcia Jr.
Recruiting Analyst
Ben Davis has been to Alabama several times as a prospect, but this past weekend he took in Tuscaloosa with a pair fellow in-state elites he’s growing close with.

Alabama again hosted legacy prospect and Scout100 Gordo (Ala.) linebacker Ben Davis over the weekend, and it enabled him time to sit down with two of the coaching staff’s defensive minds after the usual junior day activities and a good seat to see the UA hoops team in action.
“I had fun, got to talk with Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach (Kirby) Smart; we just talked a little football,” he said. “We have a great relationship with each other. Alabama sees me more as an inside guy, since I’m big. And on third down, they see me rushing the passer kind of like Dont’a Hightower. They see me as a player like him that can play inside and outside. “
The former All-America selection, national champion and now Super Bowl champion is a player Davis feels he resonates with on the field because of his versatility.
“I could see myself like Hightower, because I like to be inside to stuff the run and sometimes I like to rush the passer off the edge,” he said. “It pushes me to work even harder to fill out my potential to get to. It motivates me, and it’s humbling to get better every day.”
Checking in at 6-foot-4, 233 pounds while on the visit, the junior was able to spend part of Saturday with the other two prospects nestled in the current top three within the state lines in Montgomery (Ala.) Carver teammates Lyndell Wilson and Marlon Davidson.
“They’re my dudes, we talk all the time,” Davis said. “We really don’t know where each other is going yet, we’re all undecided. But when we just get to kick it, we go back and forth and always have fun with each other. Whenever the time comes to pick a college, if we’re together that’s going to be cool and if we go different ways, that’s going to be cool, too. We’re real tight with each other.
Carver's Davidson and "Mack" Wilson.
“Marlon is cool; he’s real funny, real goofy. But on the field, he’s a beast, nobody can block him. Mack is more of an outside guy, I’m an inside guy, so we try to get in and help each other with different techniques at camps, we try to make each other better. It’s not really a competition.”
Also looking to visit Auburn, LSU and USC in the spring and summer months, Scout’s No. 53 overall prospect and projected outside linebacker maintains that he has no leader. However, his commitment timeline may be more accelerated than initially thought.
“It might happen before the season starts, or it might happen after,” he said. “But when the season gets here, I’m going to be focused on my team.”

14 OFFERS AND COUNTING FOR FILS-AIME
Bob RedmanBob Redman
FightinGators.com Insider

This story was originally published on FightinGators.com.
He’s not unknown any more. 2016 Naples (Fla.) running back Carlin Fils-Aime picked up three big scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina this week to bring his total to 14.

Carlin Fils-Aime is one of the more modest prospects with everyone’s attention that you will meet. That is why last week was a little surprising when he was put on the phone with some of the biggest names in college football. Before the week was out Alabama head coach Nick Saban, Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and running back coach Tim Horton, and an assistant from South Carolina would all offer scholarships to their respective schools.

“I wasn’t really expecting the Alabama offer that much,” Fils-Aime said by phone late Sunday. “I never really spoke to any of the coaches and I thought they were a really good team. I just never expected them to call me or anything. Then a couple of days back my coach said that someone wanted to speak to me… and then I spoke to Coach Saban and he offered me.

“The next day Auburn offered me too but I spoke to them at lunch and spoke to Coach Tim Horton and Coach Lashlee. The USC Coach wanted me to call him, so he also said that he wanted to offer.”

The Florida Gators actually offered Fils-Aime back in January when assistant coach Kirk Callahan was by the school to talk to the coaching staff.
“Florida offered a few weeks ago,” he said. “Coach Cal came to the school. He told coach that he came down here to give me an offer and they would love to see me at Florida.”

When you watch his highlights it is easy to see why Fils-Aime is getting all of this attention. He is blessed with tremendous speed, and on his 5-foot-11, 180 pound body he has a lot of strength to run through arm tackles as well. Born in Haiti and raised in Florida since he was five, Fils-Aime tried to explain what it is coaches see in him, but he has hard time with getting past that humble thing.

“Some of the coaches say they fall in love with my tape and I honestly don’t see what they see,” he said with an unassuming laugh. “I just see a young kid running. I just think coaches see things different than players do.”
He had fun trying to explain what he sees when he is handed the ball on a play.

“I’m usually looking everywhere on the field, but three specific places,” Fils-Aime said. “One spot is where the coach wants you to go. I have my eyes on two different places in case that closes and I have enough time to adjust and go into a different hole or make another move. As I am thinking that, I am also thinking after I make that move, how am I going to get past this person? I don’t know how I think about it, but it comes pretty fast. That is what comes to my mind.”

That vision, speed, and power has coaches coming out of the wood work for him, even though he missed his junior season with torn ligaments in his left ankle.

The Gators have one thing going for them. He was a fan of the team in Gainesville growing up.

“When I was younger I was actually a big Gators fan,” he said. “As I got older I started liking other teams as well like Miami. One of my favorite teams would be Stanford.

The speedy back with a 3.0 grade point average now has 14 offers. Florida, Miami, South Carolina, Ohio State, Georgia, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Michigan, Duke, Indiana, Auburn, Alabama, and Boston College are the first 14 of many more to come.

He isn’t ready to make any kind of decision, but does know what is most important to him.

“I am looking for academics, a relationship between coaches and players, and just a school that is based on family and grades,” he said. “I’m looking for a place that will help you while you are there and later on in life.”
He will start looking into his future home after the school year ends.
“I am planning on taking a lot of visits this summer including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Boston College, North Carolina, and NC State,” he said.

Theodore RB LaMical Perine hearing from big schools, in no rush to make decision

LaMical Perine is a physical running back who should pick up more offers as the spring football season picks up steam later.

Right now, he's focused on helping Theodore win a Class 7A basketball championship. Perine is a starting forward for the Bobcats, who play Mountain Brook at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Legacy Arena at the BJCC.

"It helps with conditioning," Perine said last week, after Theodore beat McGill-Toolen in the South Regional final at the Dothan Civic Center. "With both sports, you do a lot of running, and I play running back and get 30 carries a game, so it really helps."

On the gridiron, Perine rushed for 1,416 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning honorable mention all-state honors in Class 7A. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Perine was offered by Mississippi State during his sophomore year, and he's also picked up offers from Louisiana Tech, Minnesota, Southern Miss and South Alabama.

Perine is a three-star prospect on the 247Sports composite and rated as the No. 19 prospect in the state of Alabama. He hasn't been offered by Alabama, but has been to multiple games and intends on making some trips to Tuscaloosa for spring practices.

"He has an SEC running back frame, no doubt," Theodore head coach Eric Collier said last summer. "He is thick. He's got high hips. When he goes into the weight room, he is going to bench press more than 300. He's got two years to get even better."

He's stayed in contact with Mississippi State and been there as well, and he's a fan of how the Bulldogs run the ball. He's been to Auburn once, but hasn't heard much from the Tigers. Florida is the other school he's high on.

"It's the Swamp," Perine said. "There's nothing like it."

Perine is a cousin of Samaje Perine, who set the NCAA FBS record with 427 rushing yards for Oklahoma against Kansas last fall. Samaje Perine was born in Jackson, but played high school ball in Texas before signing with Oklahoma.

Lamical Perine is in no rush to make a decision.

"A lot of big schools are looking at me right now," he said. "I'm just a physical running back. (Alabama) is just talking to me right now, but they're really interested. Florida is talking to me. I just want to focus on my schoolwork and be a student-athlete."

But what if Alabama offers?

"It would make it a really hard decision," he said.

Next posts coming from B/R wrapup of our recent offers: LINK

quote:

T.J. Simmons, 2016 3-star wide receiver from Pinson, Alabama

It didn’t take long for Alabama to add a wide receiver to its 2016 class. The Crimson Tide offered Simmons on Thursday, and Simmons committed right away:

Pinson is currently rated a 3-star prospect and the No. 86 receiver in the country from just down the road at Clay-Chalkville High School. Alabama was only his second SEC offer, behind Mississippi State, and he committed immediately.

"It means that I have a chance to go play for one of the best teams in the country," Simmons told AL.com’s Jeff Sentell. "Alabama has one of the best programs in the country."

Simmons broke down the speedy commitment to Sentell. Nick Saban offered him a scholarship over the phone.

“I told him if he didn't mind then I would like to go ahead and commit," Simmons said. "He was like 'Okay, cool' and he was like talk to your family and make sure this is what you want to do, but if this is what you want to then then I will accept it. I said I wanted to play at Alabama."

Simmons also said that he plans to attend Georgia’s junior day with a Clay-Chalkville teammate but otherwise wants to “slow down” his recruitment.

Nico Collins, 2017 wide receiver from Pinson, Alabama

Alabama is hoping that its most recent commit can pay dividends down the road.

A day after it offered and got a commitment from Simmons, the Crimson Tide extended an offer to his 6’4” teammate and fellow wide receiver, Nico Collins.

Collins does not yet have a star rating on 247Sports or any other recruiting service. He is a tall, physical specimen who has a lot of developing to do after just his sophomore year in high school.

Still, the offer speaks to what kind of potential Alabama sees in Collins.

Simmons spoke fondly of his teammate, per AL.com’s Jeff Sentel:

quote:

Nico and I learn from each other. I teach him things here and there and we still listen to and work with (Clay-Chalkville receivers coach) coach (Chris) Mills to get better at what we do. Coach Mills has really helped us both on different stuff. I'm trying to get Nico to work hard in the weight room to get bigger. He's really tall and lanky and I really want to work with him hard so he can add more muscle and get bigger and become an even better player.

Keyshawn Johnson, Jr., 4-star 2017 wide receiver from Mission Viejo, California

It was a big week for wide receivers and Alabama offers, continuing with one of the biggest names in the 2017 class.

The Crimson Tide extended an offer to Johnson Jr., the son of NFL legend Keyshawn Johnson, on Monday.

quote:

Johnson, Jr. told 247Sports’ Alex Gleitman how he felt about the offer:

I talked to Coach Saban on the phone and he offered me personally. That made it very special. It's a great offer. Any offer I would be blessed to have whether it's the best team in the nation or the worst. Any coach that sees me as talented enough to play for their college is something special. But Alabama, that's crazy. I still don't really have a favorite, but they stand as high as anyone else on my list.

quote:

Johnson, Jr. is working his way up through the recruiting rankings, now the No. 19 receiver in the country and No. 93 prospect overall, per 247Sports. His crystal ball is currently split 50-50 between Ohio State and USC, but he still has a ways to go before a decision.
