Who is the Bama commit that predicts Ole Miss to win Saturday. Might as well decommit now. I'm guessing a Mississippi kid? Bye

Sources have confirmed to BOL that Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall player in the 2018 class from Cartersville (Ga.), will attend the Tennessee-Alabama game at the end of October.

I believe he has some connection to Tennessee, but I'm not sure what it is. He is teammates with our TE commit Miller Forristall.

That 2018 QB decision is going to be tough. We have a lifelong fan in Jack West with an offer. We have a legacy in Allan Walters with an offer. Now we're potentially going after the #1 QB in the class in Lawrence.

I hope we don't frick this up.

So a guy on BOL is saying Terrell Hall is a silent commit and will go public by the end of October.

If true...

The college football season is in full gear and the first week of the NFL season is in the books. Here is a look at six of the top performers in college and pro football throughout the weekend and a glance back at their ranking and recruitment. Note: Players must have been from the Rivals.com era dating back to 2002.

WR Julio Jones

Ranking: Out of Foley, Ala., Jones was the top-rated wide receiver and fourth overall in the 2008 class. Only Terrelle Pryor, DaQuan Bowers and Mike Adams were rated higher.

Recruiting: Jones, who had about 1,200 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior season, picked Alabama over finalists Oklahoma, Florida State, Texas Tech and Florida on National Signing Day.

This week: On Monday Night Football, Jones had eight catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns -- in the first half. He absolutely dominated the Eagles on short passes close to the line of scrimmage and down the field as well. His size and excellent hands mixed with his speed made him unstoppable in the first 30 minutes. The Falcons led 20-3 at halftime.

The former five-star had only one catch in the second half as Philadelphia clawed back in the contest, but Jones' reception went for 44 yards and Atlanta hung on to beat the Eagles, 26-24.

Welp. Looks like Rivals certainly hit the nail on the head with those rankings.

California has long been a hotbed of football talent. Trips to the West Coast fill the travel agendas of college coaches all across the country, and they are not just going there for the weather. It's all about finding the next big-armed quarterback, speedy receiver, and bone-crushing linebacker. There's plenty of them out there from San Diego to San Francisco. Here's a look at who is winning the recruiting wars in this all-important state.

9. Alabama

CALIF. COMMITS - 2
POINTS - 433
AVG. STARS - 5.0

Headliner: RB Najee Harris, Antioch (Calif.) Antioch - Five-star, No. 7 2017 Rivals100, No. 1 2017 California Top 80

Overview: Alabama gets a bang for their travel buck in California. The average star ranking is as high as it can go at five stars. The No. 1 prospect in California for 2017, Najee Harris, has already given his pledge to the Tide, and No. 3 in 2016, Jonah Williams, is also in the fold. Alabama is currently the only program with two five-star commitments from California.

Free Bleacher Report Article on Mack Wilson

It's too long to copy and paste, but here are a few points I found interesting:

quote:

The Tide are the perceived leaders for Wilson, but the Tigers may have struck a blow with the recent commitment of 5-star defensive end Marlon Davidson—who played with Wilson at Carver (Alabama) High School last year before transferring in the offseason. “I feel like it was a great move for him,” Wilson told Bleacher Report in response to Davidson’s pledge. “It’s somewhere where he’s been recruited to since he was in the ninth grade. He’s built a great relationship with the coaching staff. He likes it there, and I feel like it was a good move for him.”

quote:

Wilson, who was on hand for Auburn’s nail-biting overtime win over Jacksonville State, has forged a close bond with Davidson and fellow 5-star in-state linebacker Ben Davis. Earlier in the spring, Davis told Bleacher Report’s Tyler Donohue that the three 5-star Yellowhammer State products have discussed playing at the same college. "We call ourselves 'The Trio.' Me, Mack and Marlon have really become close," Davis told Donohue. "They're my dudes. We do talk about going to the same college together sometimes, but all three of us are probably going to wait until signing day. I don't know where I'm going, and I don't think they know yet, either. We'll see what the future holds." Wilson admits the bond is strong with Davis and Davidson, but he’s now turned his attention toward finding the best fit for himself at the next level.

Yet Davidson "committed" to Auburn.

quote:

When asked which teams were recruiting him the hardest, Wilson mentioned three of those schools and another SEC power. “Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Florida,” Wilson said.

So I guess Auburn really isn't recruiting him after all.

Me too. I believe over the last 2-3 classes (including this 2016 one), we're finally starting to hit on our QB evaluations. It's about time.

From today's SEC teleconference:

@BW_Jones: Saban on [Chad] Kelly: "We weren't sure we were ready to have a junior college QB in our program at that time, but we certainly recruited him."

I found this to be an odd statement. What's the difference between bringing in a Juco QB and a grad transfer QB (Coker)? Maybe what he meant, without saying it, was they had issue with bringing in a QB with a history of conduct issues. But that's odd too since CNS is all about 2nd chances as demonstrated by Pettway, TFS, and Taylor. Just found it interesting. We also offered Mett out of Juco even though we had AJ and PS battling at QB

Brad Shephard stated this on the Tennessee site:
quote:

So I read on TOS that some of the late buzz is Kyle Davis to Auburn, so I asked my source. He says indeed Auburn is leading right now according to the information he has.

I'm feeling less and less optimistic.

Also, Nigel Warrior right now = not a Vol. Hope that changes.

Has to be good news regarding Nigel Warrior. That would possibly lock up Deangelo Gibbs for next year.

Davis, who has no plans to make an early decision, said a handful of schools from the Pac 12 and SEC are currently on him hardest.
"From the Pac 12, it's the four in-state schools, Cal, Stanford, USC and UCLA," Davis said. "From the SEC, it's Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M and Miami out of the ACC is recruiting me hard as well.
