After thorough study using specific scoring criteria, Bleacher Report National Recruiting Analysts Damon Sayles, Sanjay Kirpalani and Tyler Donohue have graded the top 200 players in the 247Sports composite rankings and provided in-depth analysis on each young athlete. Bleacher Report will run a position-by-position breakdown series of the best college football recruits in the class of 2016. Here we present the Top Athletes. Players who excel at more than one position at the high school level are often coveted by college coaches on the recruiting trail. Some high-level recruits are forced to play multiple spots out of necessity, while others have yet to find a spot in which they can grow and reach their full potential.
The latest installment of Bleacher Report's CFB 200 series will profile the prep stars classified as athletes. We will take a crack at projecting them at the position we believe they will play on the college level and scoring them on their ability to develop when they focus on one spot full-time. How do the athletes of the 2016 class stack up in comparison to one another, and where will these stud recruits line up at the college level?

7. 4-star Trevon Diggs
Height/Weight: 6'0", 183 pounds
High School: The Avalon School; Rockville, Maryland
247Sports Ranking: No. 7 athlete, No. 83 overall
Bleacher Report Score: 90/100
Uncommitted: Considering Alabama, LSU, Maryland, Penn State and Tennessee
Trevon Diggs probably learned a thing or two about the recruiting process from watching his older brother Stefon—whom the Minnesota Vikings just selected in the 2015 NFL draft—go through it a few years ago. The 4-star athlete, who could play either corner or receiver, may choose to follow in his older brother's footsteps by snatching passes in a Maryland uniform.
However, he named Alabama his leader back in April. The speedy Diggs, who hauled in 78 passes for 1,008 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior, could announce his commitment as soon as July 4, per Ahmed Ghafir of 247Sports.
Bleacher Report Analysis
Diggs' skill set is reminiscent of his older brother's. He's elusive in open space and has great hands. He attacks the ball in the air, which also makes him an intriguing option in the secondary. However, he appears to be a natural with the ball in his hands.
Someone's a little behind the times.

Odds on where Dylan Moses lands:
FSU: 12 to 1
Texas: 6 to 1
Alabama 5 to 1: Could play either RB/LB. Attended Iron Bowl.
LSU 3 to 1: Most comfortable with Les and LSU.

5. 4-star Devin White
Height/Weight: 6' ½", 258 pounds
High School: North Webster High School; Springhill, Louisiana
247Sports Ranking: No. 5 athlete, No. 77 overall
Bleacher Report Score: 91/100
Uncommitted: Considering Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss
At 258 pounds, 4-star Louisiana athlete Devin White has the athleticism to be a standout running back or linebacker at the college level.
Over the last two seasons, he's registered 3,381 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns on offense while racking up 192 tackles on defense. LSU is the early favorite for White, but schools such as Alabama and Ole Miss are heavily pursuing the No. 7 prospect from the Pelican State.
Bleacher Report Analysis
White simply does things that normal running backs don't do. He's got the speed to get to the edge and run away from defenders, but he's also a load to bring down when running between the tackles. He brings a combo of athleticism and physicality to the position that makes him an intriguing talent at the college level.

1. 4-star (Really a 5-star) Demetris Robertson
Height/Weight: 6'1", 165 pounds
High School: Savannah Christian Prep; Savannah, Georgia
247Sports Ranking: No. 1 athlete, No. 34 overall
Bleacher Report Score: 91/100
Uncommitted: Considering Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State and Stanford
After making an early commitment to Alabama, 4-star athlete Demetris Robertson backed off that pledge in April. However, the Tide are still in the running for Robertson, as he took a visit to Tuscaloosa after his decommitment. Nick Saban's main competition appears to be Georgia, which holds a slight edge on Robertson's Crystal Ball page.
Bleacher Report Analysis
Robertson is one of the more dynamic athletes in the 2016 class. I saw him at The Opening in Orlando, Florida, in March. After a slow start, he was simply unstoppable in one-on-ones. He impressed me with his ability to get off the line of scrimmage and separate from speedy corners on deep routes. He still has areas to improve upon, namely his precision as a route-runner. However, he's an electric playmaker with the ball in his hands, and he should continue to burst through defenses at the college level.

We hardly run 3-4 anymore so it should be fine as she alluded to later in that quote. LSU is pretty much the only team we consistently use it against.
Though I'm sure there have been/will be opposing coaches using that against us nonetheless.

It’s here. Well, almost.
For those of you starving for college football, this week marks a significant milestone: Teams across the nation will convene for preseason practice, ramping up preparations for the 2015 college football season, which kicks off Sept. 3 with a standout slate of Thursday night games. This month, teams will decide which players they can trust and get ready for the grind ahead. There will be stars, new names and old names in new places.
Here’s a look at 50 names you need to know for the 2015 college football season. They’re a mix of established stars, names you know and those you might not. Either way, they’ll matter this fall.

Alabama QB Jake Coker
For Jake Coker, it’s now or never.
Last fall, Coker was expected to win Alabama’s starting quarterback role after transferring from Florida State. But Blake Sims won the job and led the Crimson Tide to an SEC title and College Football Playoff berth.
Now a senior, Coker must hold off a group of four young quarterbacks this fall, led by freshmen Blake Barnett and David Cornwell. It’s his final opportunity to thrive in an Alabama uniform, and he’ll need to be more consistent than he was in spring practice to take full advantage of it.

Alabama RB Derrick Henry
It’s finally Derrick Henry’s turn in the spotlight.
For two years, the Alabama tailback has waited for his chance to be the lead back in the Crimson Tide offense, and with T.J. Yeldon gone to the NFL, it’s his time.
Last fall, Henry had 172 carries to Yeldon’s 194 but outrushed him 990-979 and averaged 5.8 yards per carry to Yeldon’s 5.0. He has an imposing mix of power and speed, and at 6’3” and 241 pounds is a huge force for opposing tacklers to bring down.
It’ll be fun to see what he can do with even more carries in Lane Kiffin’s offense in 2015. Alabama needs Henry to be good, as it is breaking in a new starting quarterback for the second consecutive season.

We're exactly five weeks away from the return of college football, and the preseason reached a major milestone Thursday with the release of the first Amway Coaches Poll.
While the poll, which is released by USA Today, doesn't have any effect in the selection process for the College Football Playoff, it's still a good barometer of what other preseason rankings will look like as we inch closer to the start of the season.
The poll is voted on by 64 FBS coaches, and all but two of them picked defending national champion Ohio State to open the season as the No. 1 team in the country. TCU and Alabama each grabbed a single first-place vote.
Take a look at the entire top 25 in the following slides, along with the teams' predicted regular-season records and their current national championship odds from Odds Shark.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide
Predicted record: 10-2
Championship odds: 15-2
Alabama fell short of its ultimate goal—playing for a national championship—each of the last two seasons, but head coach Nick Saban still has a true threat for the title on his hands in Tuscaloosa.
The quarterback battle is once again the focal point at Alabama, but Lane Kiffin's rejuvenated offense will be able to rely on the one-two running back punch of the bruising Derrick Henry and the lightning-fast Kenyan Drake. Defense will be the strength, of course, as Saban and coordinator Kirby Smart return potential All-American candidates A'Shawn Robinson, Jonathan Allen and Reggie Ragland.
The Tide's schedule is one of its toughest in the Saban era. Alabama opens the season with a neutral-site game against Wisconsin and has a rough October stretch—at Georgia, versus Arkansas, at Texas A&M and versus Tennessee in four straight weeks. Throw in the usual November battles against LSU and Auburn, and Alabama has a grueling journey toward a repeat of the SEC title and another playoff spot.

Marlon Davidson had a ton of interesting quotes in this AJC article:
LINK
quote:
Marlon Davidson has told the AJC that if National Signing Day was this Wednesday, he’d go to Auburn.
“I’d go to Auburn with the stuff I know and the stuff I’ve been around,” Davidson said.
quote:
“That relationship with him (MD's brother) at Auburn is not as important as people might think,” Davidson said. “I’d still go to Auburn even if my brother was working on the Alabama football staff,” Davidson said.
quote:
“Clemson is coming at me very hard,” Davidson said. ‘They send me mail every day. Auburn is coming at me the hardest. They are chewing me up right now. Alabama and Georgia are coming at me the hardest after that. Bama and Georgia are probably tied for number two after that in terms of the schools which are recruiting me the hardest.”

I hate to post so many quotes from the same article, but they are all noteworthy IMO:
Same article. I wonder what specifically happened that made him (or his brother) feel awkward.
quote:
Carter has taken his younger brother to Tuscaloosa for an unofficial visit.
“My brother said I should go wherever I want to go,” Davidson said. “He said do whatever is best for you. He said he can’t help me make my decision. It is on me as I’m the one who has to be at a school and be the one who grinds. He said to go to the school that will give me the best work to be the best I can be.”
Davidson said the Tuscaloosa visit was awkward.
“It was weird because I think he was getting a different vibe being at Alabama,” Davidson said. “If it is weird, then they will need to deal with it. I guess if Alabama wants me, they will have to deal with it.”
quote:
When it comes to Alabama, Davidson said his brother will support him to a point.
“He said if I am playing for Alabama he will be there,” Davidson said. “But he won’t wear the colors. He said that nobody will ever get him to wear Alabama’s colors. He said he would just be 100 percent real with me. He said if I’m at Alabama and they are playing Auburn, (he) will be there in Auburn stuff. ”
Same article. I wonder what specifically happened that made him (or his brother) feel awkward.

I mean, does anyone expect us to have any real chance with Davidson? I'd love to have him, obviously, but I'm no fool.
Posted on 8/4/15 at 12:33 am to HempHead
I would be absolutely shocked if he ended up anywhere but Auburn. It would have to be something on the level of Gus leaving for the NFL the weekend before NSD for us to even have a chance.
