What Position?
Lamar Jackson | Elk Grove (Calif.) Franklin
This award goes to the player you look at during warmups and simply assume plays a position other than his own. Jackson is a big kid and likely to grow into a linebacker, but if he does stay as a safety he will be a big one who can cover a lot of ground. His frame is excellent, he uses his long arms to disrupt passing lanes and knock the ball out of the hands of defenders and he's just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.
Honorable Mention: DB Devon Hunter still looks like he'll grow into a linebacker with his broad, rounded shoulders and big frame while LB Devin White looks the part of a fullback or even an undersized defensive tackle. White is just a big athlete who could be tough to handle as a 260-pound running back, the position he prefers. WR DeKaylin Metcalf looks like a tight end but has big hands, good downfield speed and plays very well on the outside. DE Shane Simmons looks like he could be a rangy outside linebacker and quarterback Joey Gatewood physically looks like a 2018 defensive end. You'd never think he was a quarterback just looking at him off the bus.
I gotta say, I watched the skill position battles from the event yesterday and White looked like a stud covering down field. They showed 3 highlights of him on defense and not one player caught a pass against him.

Jekyll And Hyde
DB Lavert Hill | Detroit (Mich.) Martin Luther King
This award goes to the prospect that looked great one moment and simply overmatched at other times. It was a different Hill that we saw in the morning session compared to the team play at night. In the morning he was excellent in one-on-ones and one of the stickiest cornerbacks on the field, leading to a nice spot on the skill top performers list. But during 7-on play he was beaten quite often down the field and looked lost at times, a stunning turnaround. Perhaps it was because he didn't have a ton of help or that his defense was on the field so often, but it didn't seem to affect a couple other players on his team like it did Hill.
Honorable Mention: RB Khalan Laborn made some great catches and then dropped some easy passes. He took home running back MVP honors out of a small group, but he was erratic at times. DT Julian Rochester looked slow and plodding in the morning, only showing a stiff arm, bull rush, but in the evening session he moved better and started to show off more moves. DE Nick Coe is raw and it shows more often than not but every once in awhile he will take a rep that makes you think he's an NFL player despite going inside his man nearly every time. DT Rashard Lawrence struggled a lot in the morning, some of it due to an injured knee, but in the evening he was much better and much more agile and athletic.

All Or Nothing
DE Shane Simmons | Olney (Md.) Good Counsel
You don't want to win this award, as it goes to the player who seemed to give up a bit when faced with adversity or was either very effective or invisible. Simmons was great when he won a rep, which was more often in the second session than in the first, but when offensive linemen got their hands on him he often just stopped and gave up because he was overpowered physically. He needs to finish each rep and keep fighting even if he is giving away 100 pounds and show an energy and motor similar to another smaller defensive end, MVP Jonathon Cooper.
Honorable Mention: DE Xavier Kelly went inside for the most part and seemed to give up a few times when linemen figured it out. DT Kendell Jones never stopped moving forward, but he was hit or miss when it came to his mental demeanor following a losing rep. QB Joey Gatewood showed heart and desire and maturity beyond his years but he tended to go for the homerun ball each time instead of dinking and dunking and checking down. TE Naseir Upshur wasn't utilized much and was covered well for the first part of 7-on-7 and then exploded in the finale while WR DeKaylin Metcalf either caught a big, long touchdown or wasn't effective.

Work Ethic
LB Ben Davis | Gordon, Ala.
This award speaks for itself and Davis was a quiet, tireless leader for Swarm all day. During drills and one-on-ones he was always looking to learn, do more and take reps. In the 7-on-7 sessions he took every snap due to an injury to teammate Keion Joyner and never tired while owning the middle of the field with his size and length. He seems to just get better and better and hungers for the work.
Honorable Mention: DB LaMont Wade was an a animal out there and took a ton of reps and always seemed to be going 110 percent in the 7-on-7 games. TE Isaac Nauta is a tireless worker who wants to catch every football and no one took more reps than young DT Marvin Wilson, who seems to love the camps.

Gotta Wear Shades
DE Josh Kaindoh | Baltimore (Md.) Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel
The future is so bright ... you get the message. This is about the underclassman prospect that has the highest upside. It was a really tough call because there were many. I'll go with Kaindoh over some guys who are currently ranked higher and will likely be ranked higher for awhile, but he's just starting to learn to be great and use his physical ability so I can see him outpacing a lot of different 2017 prospects in the end.
Honorable Mention: 2018 QB Joey Gatewood was the youngest participant at the camp and has the highest ceiling of anyone. I have to keep mentioning DB LaMont Wade, DB DeAngelo Gibbs and LB Nate McBride because they are so athletic and active. Gibbs is already a five star, Wade could very well be headed that way and McBride is more athletic than either of them and could have the highest ceiling of the trio.

Most Disappointing
WR Darnell Salomon | Miami (Fla.) Central
This is a tough award to hand out, especially to a recent five-star, but Salomon came into the camp as a newly minted five-star and left with plenty to prove. This just wasn't the same guy we saw at the Miami regional when he dominated a great group of defensive backs, looked in better condition and was running much better. Either he was banged up a bit and wasn't saying or he had an off day, but this was disturbing to see after earning lofty five star status. The drops on the day were abundant and he didn't seem to get open very often as his entire team struggled.
Honorable Mention: LB Anthony Hines struggled at times in coverage because he's a bigger linebacker and needs to add some twitch to his game. Much was expected from a prospect with as many offers as anyone in the country, but we didn't see the 70-offer talent in space. DT Derrick Brown struggled for the second year in a row despite coming back to Baltimore for vengeance, WR Nate Craig-Myers didn't seem as sudden as he was on spring film and seemed to lack interest a bit when his team was getting killed. OL Frank Martin as well as OL Matt Farniok were both easy marks for defensive linemen.

Tough Cookie
OT Gregory Little | Allen, Texas
This award goes to the player who fought through the biggest injury to excel. Little took not only one, but two shots to the face early in the morning one-on-ones from Kendell Jones and didn't back down or miss a rep. Shots from a kid so big and strong might have sent others packing but we've seen time and time again how tough and physical Little can be and how he doesn't mind mixing things up. He's usually not the aggressor, but he can certainly take the physical abuse dished out at times.
Honorable Mention: WR Ahmir Mitchell showed up at the event with a dislocated toe and played on it, and played well. RB Khalan Laborn and DB Jeffery Okudah both went out with injuries for brief periods but fought through them. DT Rashard Lawrence came in with a bum knee he injured at Alabama's camp the week before but still played through it. OT Sean Pollard also took an inadvertent shot from Jones but never backed down.

BALTIMORE -- After a long day of competition that included drills, a one-on-one competition and then a 7on7 evening session, there were plenty of standouts among the big men and at the skill positions in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour on Saturday. Here is a look at our All-Challenge Teams:
quote:
ALL-CHALLENGE FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE
QB Victor Viramontes - The three-star prospect showed off an incredibly strong arm, zipping the ball all over the field. He was especially effective in 7-on-7 and his arm never tired on his way to QB MVP honors.
RB Khalan Laborn (2017) - Laborn was a major threat deep during one-on-one drills. He showed excellent hands.
WR Trevon Sidney - Smooth as any receiver at the event, the WR MVP basically broke open at will. Once he caught the ball (he rarely dropped it), he turned on the jets and ran by defensive backs and linebackers.
WR Mecole Hardman - Hardman is exciting to watch, a thrill with the ball in his hands and someone who can break a big gain at any time. He never runs out of energy.
WR Sam Bruce - In one-on-one situations, it's basically impossible for Bruce to be stopped. Any sort of space and he can break it open. He's so fun to watch with the ball in his hands.
WR Dekaylin Metcalf - The big receiver (6-2, 197) really impressed with his speed, hands and consistency through the day. For someone so massive on the outside, Metcalf stretches the field and had an outstanding weekend.
TE Isaac Nauta - The Florida State commit can catch every ball in a crowd, but he also showed some good separation to make easy grabs. He was absolutely the top target on his 7-on-7 team.
OL Gregory Little - Little showed excellent footwork and super toughness during one-on-one drills. He took two shots to the neck and still won his reps.
OL Jedrick Wills (2017) - Wills was one of the biggest surprises at camp because he dominated so much at right tackle. He was fierce, tough and didn't back down to anybody.
OL Terrance Davis - Davis lined up at offensive guard and really battled hard against every defensive lineman who dared line up against him. The gritty lineman wasn't scared to compete.
OL Michael Onwenu - Onwenu had a terrific punch and moved his feet incredibly well for someone who weighed in at 368 pounds. He moves so lightly and has such power it was impressive to see.
OL Baveon Johnson - The center has a massive body, but he moves well for his size and has such a low center of gravity, it's difficult to move him. He keeps moving his feet and uses his hands well.

ALL-CHALLENGE FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE
DL Jonathon Cooper - The athletic Ohio State commit had the speed to get to the edge and he also showed off a surprising bit of power. He was a load to handle for bigger offensive tackles and won the DL MVP award.
DL Dexter Lawrence - Lawrence has a tremendous inside rip move, great balance and gains leverage better than maybe any defensive lineman in this class.
DL Rashan Gary - Gary is so active and is in non-stop motion, so he's tough to corral. The five-star is also so powerful that the combination of the two make him tough to stop.
DL Marvin Wilson - Wilson showed a lot of toughness and an ability to shed blocks. He had surprising speed to beat interior linemen.
LB Lyndell Wilson - Wilson had two interceptions during one-on-one drills, where linebackers are at a tremendous disadvantage. He is athletic, has perfect timing and plays almost like a defensive back.
LB Ben Davis - Davis looks like a million dollars at inside linebacker and he shut down the middle of the field during 7-on-7. There were no crossing routes against him because he was always waiting to close off lanes.
LB Nate McBride - McBride is a tremendous athlete who ran on deep routes with receivers and tight ends stride for stride. He is muscular but also fast and smooth.
DB Jack Jones - Jones tested himself against the best receivers (especially Sam Bruce) during one-on-ones and he won a lot of reps. The four-star was also tremendous in 7-on-7 making plays and knocking away multiple passes. He was named DB MVP.
DB Lamont Wade (2017) - Wade is tremendously athletic, bouncy, plays with a lot of passion and fire and did an excellent job defending bigger receivers.
DB William Poole III - More than a few times, Poole stuck his hand right where it needed to be to knock away passes. He has excellent timing and reads plays really well.
DB JoeJuan Williams - Williams made play after play, knocked passes down or shut down receivers to his side. He's a long, athletic cornerback with nice speed.

ALL-CHALLENGE SECOND-TEAM OFFENSE
QB Chris Robison (2017) - Robison rolled out well and hit receivers in stride. When he had to put more pace on his passes, it was no problem for him to deliver the ball all over the field.
RB Cordarrian Richardson (2017) - The thick, muscular running back showed off nice speed and an ability to get open. He was a sharp route runner, too, and broke open numerous times.
WR Demetris Robertson - Robertson broke open short, he found space deep and he caught every pass thrown his way like he does at every event. He's special at receiver even though he flirts with defensive back.
WR T.J. Chase - Time after time, Chase broke open either across the middle or down the sideline. The Clemson commit showed off some of the surest hands at camp.
WR Binjimen Victor - Victor has tremendous size (6-4, 173), so his catch radius is enormous and he's surprisingly athletic for being so lanky. He was a constant threat down the sidelines.
WR Trevon Grimes (2017) - Grimes was phenomenal in one-on-one situations. He has tremendous hands, long arms to snatch it out of the air and it's shocking that he's a 2017 prospect because he can dominate at times.
TE Naseir Upshur - Upshur was quiet early, but during the 7-on-7 playoff round, the four-star prospect caught a bunch of passes and was a vital part of the offense. He has nice speed and a knack to pop open.
OL Aaron Dowdell - Dowdell has a terrific base and anchors well. The Georgia commit won most of his early reps and established himself as a top inside guy.
OL Landon Dickerson - The four-star has really good feet and beat top-rated Dexter Lawrence on two reps. He was one of the more athletic offensive linemen at the event.
OL Wyatt Davis (2017) - The barrel-chested lineman showed he could play inside or outside. He was physical and tough and didn't back down all day.
OL Landon Young - The Kentucky pledge has an incredible frame and he moves super well for a 6-foot-7 prospect. He can still develop physically, which makes him even more impressive.
OL Sean Pollard - Pollard has nice footwork and he's a physical, lanky offensive lineman who wanted to keep learning from any mistakes. The Clemson commit has a lot of desire and toughness.

ALL-CHALLENGE SECOND-TEAM DEFENSE
DL Julian Rochester - Rochester struggled in the morning, but later in the evening the Georgia commit came through in a big way. For someone of his size (6-5, 322), the four-star has good feet and speed.
DL Malik Herring - Herring had an ability to get to the edge. Once offensive tackles guessed he would do it again, he came across their face and usually won the rep.
DL Shane Simmons - Simmons had a tough morning, but he really bounced back in the evening and used his tremendous athleticism to his advantage to win reps.
DL Kendell Jones - He's massive. He is a force of nature. And when he can gain any leverage, there is no stopping Jones. The man they call 'Hulk' checked in at 6-foot-5 and 360 pounds of muscle.
LB Michael Divinity - Divinity had a phenomenal interception in one-on-ones and he was really solid in coverage throughout the camp. He runs well and covers so much ground.
LB Devin Bush - Bush came up big with two interceptions in one-on-ones and does a nice job keeping pace with fast receivers on deep routes.
LB Daelin Hayes - Hayes is a big linebacker who moves well for his size and does a nice job locking down the middle.
DB Saivion Smith - Smith is aggressive and physical at cornerback and makes it especially difficult for receivers to smoothly get into their routes. Once the ball is in the air, Smith has the athleticism to make a play on it.
DB Jared Mayden - Mayden had a bunch of pass deflections on short passes, which was really impressive. On an island, Mayden stepped up and knocked passes away which would have been easy completions.
DB DeAngelo Gibbs - Gibbs had one of the nicest interceptions and pass breakups during the 7-on-7 session and played cornerback mainly even though he could also play safety.
DB Jeffrey Okudah - Okudah has tremendous closing speed for a bigger defensive back. He has nice length too and can deal with smaller and bigger receivers.

BALTIMORE - Sometimes second place pays off big. That certainly was the case for Team Stealth, which turned a trio of second-place finishes into a Big Man Challenge Championship at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night.
The Big Man Challenge is an endurance test for the guys in the trenches and Team Stealth gutted out a strong showing in every event, finishing no lower than third in any of the five Big Man Challenge events.
Individually, Rivals100 defensive linemen Julian Rochester and Antwuan Jackson repeat as Big Man Challenge Champions at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge after claiming the title a year ago.
"It was fun this year because it was kind of easier," Rochester said. "I don't want to say it was easy because the competition was still great and I got to go against some great talent last year. So we came in and I had a bit of an advantage because I saw what great talent is.
The overall OL and DL MVP awards take into account the entire camp performance from the beginning of Saturday morning until the completion of the Big Man Challenge.
It was a tight competition for both but it was hard to deny the efforts of five-star offensive tackle Gregory Little and Rivals250 defensive end Jonathon Cooper.
Little was strong during the morning position drills, one-on-one drills, and the Big Man Challenge in the evening. He showed technique, and he played with strength.
"It means a lot," Little said. "I just tried to put on for Texas and I wanted to show what Texas football is like. I just had a lot of fun meeting a lot of people and doing what I do best."
Cooper was one of the fastest and strongest on the defensive line. He did not lose a one-on-one rep during the Big Man Challenge and he made a strong impression throughout the day.
"That was amazing," Cooper said. "I didn't expect it at all honestly. I thought I did a pretty good job, but for me to win this means a lot."
Team Stealth was able to escape with the title after falling just short of Team Tumblr in the one-on-one tournament. The championship went to a sudden death tiebreaker rep between the nation's No. 1 player, five-star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, and Rivals250 offensive guard Michael Onwenu.
Lawrence was able to claim the title with a decisive win, giving team Tumblr the early lead with 24 points.
Team Stealth could have folded early, but with 21 points at the end of the one-on-one championship tournament, it dug deep.
Stealth finished second to team Swarm in the DL pass rush "club rip" drill, then won the OL pass pro shuffle drill. Stealth did have its worst performance with a third place finish in the OL/DL three-cone drill, but was able to bounce back for a strong second place performance in the OL/DL hoops figure eights.
At the end of all five events it was Stealth on top with 37 total points.
"I take it as we had a real good team with all our d-linemen and offensive linemen," Onwenu said. "So obviously we're the best team and we showed out today, and we all showed we deserve our fifth star."
Onwenu was joined on Team Stealth by offensive linemen Landon Dickerson, Matt Farniok, and Cesar Ruiz, and defensive linemen Marvin Wilson, Jackson, Rochester and Shane Simmons.
Team Tumblr finished with 35 points, after only recording 11 points over the final four events. Team Swarm came in third with 33.5 points and Team Flurry finished fourth with 29.5 points.
On an individual level, Jonathon Cooper of Team Swarm finished with the fastest time in the DL pass rush "club rip" drill with a 0.94. Cooper also claimed the fastest OL/DL hoops figure eights time after initially tying Josh Kaindoh of Team Flurry and Simmons of Team Stealth with times of 4.81. The three had a run off and Cooper blazed a 4.85 after Kaindoh and Simmons ran times of 4.94.
Kaindoh did finish with the fastest OL/DL three-cone drill with a 6.47, and Drake Jackson took the fastest time in the OL Pass Pro Shuffle Drill with a 4.97.

Eddy Pineiro, the JUCO kicker who made a 65 yarder at camp on Sunday, had this to say after his talk with Saban:
Tucker McCann was at the camp as well so who is the mystery kicker coming to town on Wednesday?

“Coach Saban took me up to his office. He told me he was very interested in me, and that he wanted to see another kid kick on Wednesday, but that he will stay in touch about the offer. The special teams coach (Bobby Williams) came up to me and my dad and told us that (Saban) told him I have an NFL leg.”

BALTIMORE -- The Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour took over Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium last weekend. Here were the top performers of the 7on7 portion of the event:
quote:
7 DB
William Poole III (2017)
Atlanta (Ga.) Hapeville Charter
Poole was the best defensive back on the day's best team and made a pair of key interceptions during the tournament. He also did a nice job shutting five-star Nate Craig-Myers in two separate games. Pool is a long, physical corner with good hands and impressive agility. He's a nice blend of size and speed that can cover targets of differing sizes and skill sets.

9 WR
Demetris Robertson
Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Country Day
Robertson would probably be higher on this list of he stuck to playing wide receiver. The Georgia-based athlete fancies himself to be a two-way player, but is much more effective on the offensive side of the ball. His explosiveness and size make him a handful for any defensive back and he proved to be a deep threat on Saturday.

13 LB
Lyndell Wilson
Montgomery (Ala.) Carver
Wilson was one of the bright spots on a team that struggled its way to a last-place finish, but he was effective individually. Wilson played both linebacker and wide receiver, making more plays than most players on his squad combined. He is extremely athletic and quick for a prospect of his size and moves well laterally in addition to running downhill.
