The Class of 2015 is mostly signed, sealed and delivered except for a few (ahem. Roquan Smith) stragglers.

Recruiting never ends. The Birmingham Metro area produced eight SEC and 10 Power 5 football signees on Wednesday. Rest assured that the elite programs were already targeting the elite 2016 prospects months ago.

Will the Class of 2016 produce another bumper crop? It sure looks like it. There are already eight Central Alabama area recruits on every big-time recruiter's grocery list.

DB P.J. Hall, Hoover: Hall has long been considered the best athlete of the rising senior class at Hoover. He held an offer from Mississippi State prior to his junior year. His 7-on-7 showing against Class of 2015 five-star WR Tyron Johnson should be must-see video for any college coach who wants to assess his skills.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder also received an Alabama offer at a recent "Junior Day" event. Marshall told AL.com that he was being recruited by the Tide as a quarterback.

LB Jeremiah Moon, Hoover: The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder is a rangy athlete with all the length necessary, but now needs to bulk up. The former Hoover junior varsity baseball player is now an outstanding linebacker prospect who saw his first starting action during the 2014 season. The four-star recruit had a Mississippi State offer prior to his sophomore year. He's actually old enough to just be considered a rising junior and he grew three inches during the span of his freshman year.

247sports.com already rates him as the No. 49 overall prospect for the Class of 2016.

Daron Payne grew up cheering for Auburn but explains why he signed with Alabama instead

Print By Michael Casagrande | mcasagrande@al.com

Granddaddy and Uncle Calvin were 100 percent Auburn. Other branches of the family tree pulled for Alabama.

As a child, Daron Payne sided with the Tigers faction. But then the recruiting process began and the five-star flipped his allegiance. So did Uncle Calvin.

Payne signed with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday to complete his conversion to the crimson and white. Surrounded by both sides of the family divide, the Shades Valley senior signed his name and "Roll Tide" on the white sheet of paper after faxing his paperwork to Tuscaloosa.

His relationship with a pair of Alabama assistants was the deciding factor. Offensive line coach Mario Cristobal was his lead recruiter. Payne said he liked the way Cristobal talked about the family aspect of coming to Alabama while football was only a small part of the discussion.

"When I got down there and saw how hard they worked down there and how the coaches treat their players there," Payne said.

Choosing the other side of Alabama's fiercest rivalry was difficult. Auburn was the leader for a while, he said Wednesday.

"Right up until the Under Armour game," Payne said. "That's when I really started thinking Alabama was the right pick for me."

Shades Valley teammate Keith Mixon, who signed with Mississippi State on Wednesday, had a front-row seat for the recruiting process. They went on trips to both in-state schools and Mixon got an idea as to what his teammate was thinking.

"I could tell he was leaning more towards Alabama more than Auburn," Mixon said. "I wasn't surprised."

Payne made the commitment to Alabama at the Under Armour All-American game Jan. 2 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Another of the Tide's coaches was crucial in the decision.

"Coach Cochran, really," Payne said of Alabama's strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran. "The way he builds players ... there's no gimmicks. You just come down there and work."

Daron Payne signs with Alabama
Payne is rated a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 29 overall player. He checks in at No. 2 on AL.com's A-List.
The defensive lineman currently weighs 330 pounds, but would like to drop 10 before getting to Tuscaloosa.

Payne said he could play anywhere on Alabama's defensive line. He's drawn comparisons to a number of players including former Tide star Marcell Dareus. Payne thought of former Auburn star Nick Fairley as a player with whom he'd like to be compared.

"Yeah, he's dominant," Payne said. "So I can try to work like that."

For Uncle Calvin Lamar Payne, these are strange days. He watched his nephew do interviews Wednesday wearing a houndstooth hat and a wide grin. Times, they are changing.

"I'm an Auburn fan, so the Tigers are close to my heart," he said with a smile. "But I'm going to be rolling with the Tide on top."

LINK Interesting that he was leaning Auburn until the UAAA practices.

Safety Deionte Thompson opens up on choosing Alabama early, spurning Texas schools

Safety Deionte Thompson speaks with the media following Alabama Coach Nick Saban's discussion of National Signing Day and the Tide's 2015 signing class, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the Mal Moore Athletic Facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Vasha Hunt/vhunt@al.com (VASHA HUNT)

Print By Drew Champlin | dchamplin@al.com

Nearly two years ago, Deionte Thompson became the first player to give Alabama a verbal commitment in the class of 2015.

He held up to his end of the bargain. The four-star safety from Orange, Texas., never took any other official visits and enrolled at Alabama in January.

RELATED: Meet Alabama's 2015 recruiting class

Alabama safety Deionte Thompson meets the media
Thompson met with the media on National Signing Day 2015.
He was one of four freshmen granted the opportunity to speak with the media on Wednesday when he was introduced as one of 24 signees by Alabama. Quarterback Blake Barnett, safety Ronnie Harrison and offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy also took turns with the media, normally something that doesn't happen with freshmen except on Signing Day.

Alabama was Thompson's first offer and he reciprocated with a commitment.

"My mom and my dad knew this was the place for me no matter what the other schools had to offer," Thompson said. "Alabama noticed me first and noticed my ability to make plays and do so and they went ahead and offered me. That's when everybody else came and offered. Alabama is always going to have a special place in my heart because of that and that's where I decided to commit."

From there, Alabama had to hold off the Texas schools. Despite having success plucking some top recruits out of the state - Alabama signed five-star cornerback Kendall Sheffield this year and five-star cornerback Tony Brown last year - it was going to be a tough task.

LSU was the school closest to Thompson, he said. Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M weren't giving up without a fight.

"Some people at my school (West Orange-Stark), like teachers and faculty members were Texas and Texas A&M alumni so I heard from them every day," Thompson said. "'I feel you should come to our school' and I was like 'Nah' because when I went and visited those schools I just didn't feel at home, or I didn't feel the way that I felt here. The way I felt here was just like a feeling that I felt when I was at home with my parents. At the end of the day this was the best choice for me and Texas and Texas A&M didn't have a chance."

Thompson shared some reasons why he chose Alabama.

"They have great players and great things around the facility," he said. "The football team is winning and they produce athletes in the NFL and has the highest graduation rate in the SEC. That's some of the things they put on the table, my family liked it and I decided it was the best school for me."

He'll have a chance to earn his way into the rotation right away. Alabama lost three safeties to graduation and Thompson will be able to participate in spring practice.

"It's going to take hard work and dedication," Thompson said. "I just know that playing time isn't given, you have to earn it. If I really want it, I have to dig deep and grind hard every day to get a chance for playing time."

Those early offers really pay off. SBB said that one of the reasons he chose Alabama is that we were the first to offer.

They will slow down.

We have 12 pages in 3 days.

I'm sure a ton of their posts are about Shea Patterson. Once he commits it will even out.

Am I reading it right in that he transferred from Spanish Fort to Theodore?

I thought he played for Theodore last year.

OT....but, I really really wish Derrick Henry played TE. He's so big, tall, fast. Him and OJ on each side.....we have RB depth, he translates to NFL TE. He's so long legged, he'd be impossible to cover.
