Ahh, Thought he was ranked higher than that. Not that that is bad for a soph.

From BOL:

Ultimately, Alabama is getting a player with great field vision. While he isn’t the highest rated prospect, he has incredible speed to the ball, and awareness. He’s a workout machine. I fully expect his rating to go up before it’s all said and done. Under the tutelage of Mel Tucker and Nick Saban, Perry has the opportunity to be a special player for the Crimson Tide.

My post bombs will be coming to a halt once I go East. I'll be able to post some stuff, but the days of 30 straight posts are going to end.

Agreed. This class is strange. We have as many three stars committed right now as we ended with last recruiting cycle. Hopefully it will pick up soon, maybe some of the higher ranked in-state recruits will commit.

Hopefully Saban has realized that the most competitive teams he has fielded at bama where filled with guys fighting to show they deserved to play just as much as the highly recruited guys.

When you have 3rd string 5 star guys all over the roster team chemistry is going to take a major hit. They feel entitled as opposed to being motivated to go out and bust their arse to earn PT. Of course there is always an exception to the rule.

Saban has managed this is about as well as anyone but at the end of the day it is not the best approach.

Cavin Ridley says that FSU, UF, and Alabama are standing out.

There's still some speculation as to whether or not he will qualify without going to JUCO.

Mods have already said Jonah Williams will be bumped to 5*, probably consensus. There's a lot of talk that he might be the #2 OT nationally.

Owens and Brown will likely move up the rankings, but remain 4* guys.

Scales dominated the camp he was at. Will likely move up.

Perry was at the top of our board at safety. I'd imagine if he camps like he did last Summer, he'll get a big bump.

There's some speculation on the UF247 board that Luke Del Rio may transfer there. Interdasting.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned on here, but..

Keaton Anderson measured at 6'1 3/4" and 225 pounds the other day. Turned in two laser times of 4.48 and 4.49. He hit a small growth spurt and has been training hard, it appears. He'll be a terror for us. Absolutely LOVE that we signed him. I loved it since the moment I watched his film. Very good football player with WAY underrated athleticism. Holcombe will be the same way for us.

PERRY PULLS THE TRIGGER FOR 'BAMA
John Garcia Jr.John Garcia Jr.
Recruiting Analyst

Alabama has been busy in Louisiana in recent cycles and it continued on Monday with the commitment of three-star defensive back Joshua Perry. He breaks down his decision to play with the Crimson Tide inside.

Longtime Alabama commitment and 2016 Scout100 athlete Shyheim Carter is no longer the sole Louisianan on Nick Saban's commitment list.

Fellow defensive back projection and Amite (La.) three-star Josh Perry jumped on board Monday afternoon.

"I committed like 10 minutes ago," he said. "My head coach called Nick Saban, I was in class at the time. He held the phone until I got there.

"One of the defensive back coaches recorded me at practice and brought it back to the school. He (Saban) told me he likes that way that I move. He said it was on me if I wanted to commit now or wait, but my mind was made up. When I got the offer (late April), I knew I was going to go there. I like the campus, I like the vibe. I talked about it with my parents and we decided that I'm going to spend my next four years at Alabama."

The offer originally came down in late April and Perry says he was ready to be Crimson then.

"If it was up to me, I would have committed when I got the offer, but I wanted to see how my parents feel about it. That's why I waited," he said. "They haven't been there yet, but we plan on taking a trip out there sometime this summer.

"It's all about the good vibe on the campus, how the coaches and players treat you. If I was to get hurt the first day of practice, I'd still feel like home there and I can get my education. I'd feel like I was Louisiana, that's why I'm so comfortable with Roll Tide."

On the field, the versatile athlete can play a bevvy of positions in the secondary. Saban says he'll have his pick.

"I played corner when the coach came by here, but last year at (Alabama) camp, I played safety," Perry said. "He said it's my decision to play corner or safety, but right now I want to play safety. That's my favorite position.

"Saban was excited, he's proud to have me. All the coaches were. Everything is good!"

Scout tabs Perry at safety, as well. LSU was his initial scholarship offer, but he says he grew up an Oklahoma fan. Despite it, Perry has no plans on visiting another campus any time soon.

To be sure, Dare Rosenthal of Ferriday (La.) High School is not the typical ninth grader. He’s a 6-8, 288-pound lineman who plays both ways in high school but it likely headed for an offensive tackle spot in college.
His high school coach, Cleothis Cummings, confirmed Monday that Rosenthal had received an offer from Alabama and committed to Coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
Rosenthal has three more years of high school football before beginning his college career.
He is the first Alabama commitment in the Class of 2018.
Interestingly, the commitment by Rosenthal followed shortly after Alabama received a commitment from defensive back Joshua Perry, an upcoming senior defensive back from Amite, La.

5-STAR WILSON TO WAIT IT OUT?
John Garcia Jr.John Garcia Jr.
Recruiting Analyst

There was an easy pick for Scout.com in choosing a spring football game in Alabama to attend on Friday as Central-Phenix City was hosting Carver-Montgomery in a game that featured four prospects currently tabbed four stars or better. There was a sole five-star in action, Lyndell Wilson, and he shared the latest on his national recruitment.

National recruits have a luxury most others don’t, the ability to truly wait out the entire recruiting process on the way to finding that ideal fit. Lyndell Wilson, currently a five-star and the No. 1 inside linebacker nationally on Scout.com, is in this group and he plans to take full advantage of the recruiting calendar in between now and February 3, 2016.

But first, he admits being humbled by the time-flying nature of high school football. “Mack,” as he commonly goes by, is now being looked at as a senior leader for the always talented Montgomery (Ala.) Carver Wolverines.

“Going into this season, I just look at the seniors that left; they were a big part of our team,” he said. “This year, we’ve got a lot of young guys so I feel the need to step up and guide them. Just be that guy they can look up to and ask questions and lead the best way I can.

“I’ve learned that you have no time to waste. It felt like just last year I was at Robert E. Lee (High School) playing quarterback, and now I’m a senior outside linebacker. I just had to turn it all real quick, I had to grow up.”

One major part of the learning curve for Wilson, who has lined up all over the field for Carver over the years, is learning the entirety of the defense. His versatility is an asset at the prep level and remains one of his most impressive characteristics heading into college. But the corner has been turned recently, according to Carver coach Billy Gresham.

The head Wolverine gave out awards following Friday’s spring game against Phenix City (Ala.) Central and Wilson took home the award given to the player who elevated his game most this spring. Gresham said the string of practices and workouts were the best he’s seen of his five-star leader.

“My goal is to know what everybody is doing on the field because I don’t know where coach is going to play me,” Wilson said. “I’m that type of guy that’s like, ’put me where you need me. Then I go do it.’

“For me to get better I need to work harder, be that leader of the team, have no missed days and be that top guy. I need to work on being a more vocal leader.”

The other element of spring football at a well-known program like Carver is the coaching traffic each day. Programs from all over the country have stopped in to see Wilson in action. With no favorites at this point in the recruiting process, representatives have asked the same question many have been curious about.

“When they see me now they’re just like, ‘where are you going to go?’ I tell them that I’m still interested in anybody that has interest in me,” Wilson said. “I take care of what they tell me. And I want to take visits to schools to see where I fit in with these defensive schemes.

“Some schools see me inside (at linebacker), others outside, some see me as a safety if I don’t gain no (more) weight. Right now I’m 6-3, 230 (pounds). I eat healthy, so I’m pretty sure I won’t get no bigger.”

Having seen most of the semi-local schools on his list, next up for the five-star is a trip to LSU on May 30. It’s the only planned trip this summer outside of The Opening Finals in Oregon and Under Armour’s top camp event in Maryland.

As many coaches have come to find out, which can also be reason to continue to go all in on one of the nation’s best, Wilson is still taking his time with the process unless one staff gets some good news well before the public finds out.

“I’m trying to wait it out until signing day. If I do commit, I won’t tell anybody, I’ll just tell the coach,” he said. “I really don’t know right now, I’m just taking everything in.”
