There were only 17 quarterbacks from the 2016 recruiting class at Sunday's Elite 11 Regional. ESPN NFL analyst Trent Dilfer, who leads the quarterback camps, admitted that he was more focused on the 2015 class prospects.
But one of the '16 recruits in attendance who turned heads was 5-star Jacob Eason of Lake Stevens, Washington. 247Sports Composite Rankings have the 6'5" prospect as the top pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 5 player nationally for the entire class.
And it just so happened Eason traveled to Arlington on the tail end of a recruiting trip to Texas. Overall, Eason gave his trip to Austin an 8/10.
"I met some nice graduate assistants and nice coaches, and they gave me a tour around the school. I liked everything I saw," Eason said. "They're making improvements on the field—and it's already huge—so they're making it bigger."
"The people and vibe stood out," he continued. "Everyone has nice stuff, but at Texas, the people really stood out to me."
Eason is looking for the complete package in a school: Coaching, academics, whether the program puts quarterbacks in the NFL, prestige and so on. One thing he noticed in the state of Texas was the weight the Longhorn brand carried.
"Texas stands out," he said. "Everywhere I go down here, I'll see Longhorns stuff."
Eason hasn't received an offer from the Horns yet, but said he wasn't worried about that. He currently holds offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Oregon State and Washington State.
Indeed, Eason is gaining attention all over the country. And he's not limiting himself to a specific time zone.
"Playing away from home wouldn't bother me," explained Eason. "If I have offers from across the country, I'm not going to restrict myself to the West Coast. I want to be able to enjoy my four years in college."
Eason could pick up more offers as early as this summer, as he plans to take several trips to the Southeastern part of the U.S. He'll also take trips to Michigan and Notre Dame. Eason's father, Tony, is a former Irish wide receiver.
Eason has good bloodlines and all the tools to be a successful college quarterback—and it shows. He has excellent arm strength and put the ball on a rope during downfield throws while making it look effortless. In a group of high school prospects, Eason already looked like a college athlete.
Eason admits that there are small things he still needs to work on, like footwork, mechanics and progressing through his reads. In that way, he was just like every other quarterback at the Elite 11 regional.
As long as he keeps refining his game, he'll be one of the most talked-about prospects at next year's Elite 11 regional.

Interview with Amonte Caban (6'2 210lb OLB):
-Has gotten a dozen or so recent offers, but doesn't have one from in state schools Alabama or Auburn yet
-Recently visited Alabama. Kirby Smart gave him some attention and he liked that. He told Caban to come back and compete at camp. Caban plans on doing so
-Cincy, UK, South Alabama, and Clemson have all checked in on him recently. All have offered
-He's had interest in Kentucky and USCe for a while... Other schools just now coming into the picture
-He doesn't have a top group or anything at this point
-Doesn't plan on deciding in the near future

Just an FYI. We are kicking Auburn's rear end in recruiting this year. Besides KJ they have a bunch of border line 4 star prospects and a couple of nice juco prospects.

Florida WR Therrell Gosier tells me he'll decide tonight between #WVU, Alabama and Kentucky. @PatrickLoney @JohnGarcia_Jr
I'm guessing it's not us.

He's 6'6". Kinda reminds me of DeRunnya Wilson that signed with Mississippi State last year.

I wonder if he is waiting to see if his Bama offer becomes committable. With all of these WRs out there that Bama has a chance with, it's hard to see that happening.

Barner Matthews has Daron Payne going to the family, does he ever CB an awb target somewhere else?

And yeah, Matthews hasn't really kept up with the Crystal Ball stuff recently, he just left 247. I think he's doing reporting for the University soon
