Jalen Thompson, CB from St. Paul's in Mobile, visited Saturday during practice.

Info:

Jalen Thompson Highlights

quote:

"I got to talk to Nick Saban, Coach (Lance) Thompson, and Coach (Tyler) Siskey. They love the way I play the game. They love the intensity that I show and can tell that I really love the game. (Meeting Saban) was amazing, just to get to talk to a coach that knows how to win and knowing that he would be coaching my position. I loved it.

"I will have an offer by football season they said. They want me to come work out during the summer. They said they're going to come watch me play during the spring and will keep watching my film. They want me up there as soon as I can get there."

A few people over at BOL who live in the Mobile area have said he is the best prospect in the city for this class.

quote:

"They're at the top, because they know how to win. There's some other schools up there with them- Florida, Georgia, Florida, Louisville, and South Carolina would be up there."

His CB has Auburn in the lead at 80%, yet he didn't mention them as one of the schools at the top of his list.

Interdasting.

We got a CB for Kerryon Johnson from Demetric Warren yesterday. He was the only analyst that predicted Rashaan Evans to us last year.

Keith Niehbur, the Auburn 247 guy, predicted Shawn Burgess-Becker to Miami yesterday even though he named us his leader.

Top Performers from the Miami Nike Football Training Camp:

quote:

1. Tyrek Cole, CB, Miramar (Fla.) - Florida State commit
His Twitter handle is @Cole_Island. At this event the cover cornerback more than lived up to his social media labeling. It was his show. He shut down all comers, not allowing any catches and made a sensational interception on a post route to highlight a stellar day of one-on-ones. Cole proved again that he’s one of the nation’s elite cover guys blanketing wideouts with his elite quickness, rangy frame and high-level instincts for the position. Cole listed Miami and Alabama as the number two and three schools to Florida State.

3. Calvin Ridley, WR, Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch
The four-star wideout has elite ball skills. He effortlessly hauls in everything that comes his way. Ridley has advanced hand-eye coordination, gets depth on his routes and was again among the best at another camp setting. Miami, Florida and Alabama are in the lead group for one of the nation’s top wide receiver prospects.

5. Jovon Durante, WR, Miami (Fla.) Norland - West Virginia commit
The fastest of the fast receivers in south Florida. His breaks within routes are seamless and few, if any wideouts in America can explode up the field as well. He’s lightning in a bottle both vertically and after the catch. An early West Virginia pledge, the U.S. Army All-American lists Auburn and Alabama as his number two and three schools. He plans to take all five official visits before announcing on National Signing Day.

Leo Lewis quotes:

quote:

"UCLA, Cal and Auburn are my latest offers," said the 6-foot-3 and 225-pound Lewis. "I figured it might slow down some but it really hasn't that much. I am still taking it day-by-day and the process can be stressful at times but it is also a lot of fun at the same time."

quote:

"I just worked out during spring break and had that Rivals camp in Hattiesburg," said Lewis. "I am not sure of any trips coming up real soon but there will be some later this spring. I am trying to make it to some spring games. I want to get to Mississippi State, Alabama and Ole Miss and I might be able to make it to LSU's spring game."

quote:

"Alabama is a great school, too, and me and Coach (Nick) Saban have a good relationship," said Lewis. "They showed me a good time when I went there and I also built a good relationship with (2014 Alabama signee) Reuben Foster when I was there."

quote:

"I have no favorites right now," said Lewis, rated the nation's No. 2 inside linebacker prospect by 247Sports. "I would say Mississippi State is on me very hard and so is Alabama, Cal, Georgia, Ole Miss and Clemson. I have said before I would decide a week before signing day but it might happen before that or it could be on signing day. But I do think it will be late in the process.

I think he leaves the state of Mississippi, but sadly I feel it will be further away than Tuscaloosa. I hope I am wrong.

We have Jimmy Johns trying to steer him our way. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing though.

Lewis has said he is friends with Johns in the past. I have access to the State board and Albundybulldog is from Brookhaven. He has also said that Lewis and Johns are close.

I think Johns is a car salesman or something now.

Deionte Thompson visited LSU last Saturday. Thompson and his family visited there while visiting some relatives nearby. Sources say he is still firmly committed.

BR's predictions for our class:

quote:

Alabama

Current National Ranking: No. 2 (eight players, one 5-star, six 4-stars)

Key Commits

Alabama quickly addressed its running back situation with a commitment from in-state prospect Desherrius Flowers last April. Coach Nick Saban received his commitment days after 5-star Georgia defensive end Mekhi Brown pledged to the program.

Texas safety Deionte Thompson fits the physical mold of what Saban seeks for his secondary. Daylon Charlot out of Louisiana is the latest big-play wide receiver Alabama has landed.

Potential Pickups

The Crimson Tide are firmly in the mix for 5-star defensive linemen CeCe Jefferson, Daron Payne and Byron Cowart. Expect Alabama to land one of those top targets and add a top cornerback like Minkah Fitzpatrick or Kendall Sheffield.

Saban is still searching for receiver talent. His top targets include Florida star Calvin Ridley and Tennessee commit Preston Williams.

Projected Final Ranking: Top three

Should we expect anything less in Tuscaloosa? Saban has secured four consecutive No. 1 recruiting classes and will challenge for the top spot again in 2015. However, Alabama hits the recruiting trail without the title of defending champ for the first time since 2011.

Tim Settle is a 5-star defensive tackle from Virginia who will be ready to play as a true freshman. Settle plays with solid technique for a player his age, showing good hand placement when punching blockers and playing with impressive leverage.

At 6'3.5" and 305 pounds, the big man has good first-step quickness to engage with blockers at the snap. He plays as big as his listed size at the point of attack due to impressive strength and power. Settle has no issues stacking blocks to read and react to plays, but his quickness and deceptive agility also allow him to work as a gap-penetrator.

He can push the pocket in the interior as a pass-rusher, and he displays a noticeable surge to close and finish on ball-carriers.

Alabama, Ohio State and Virginia are his top suitors, says 247Sports.

Any defensive coordinator looking for a physical presence inside the defensive trenches needs to look hard at 5-star defensive tackle Shy Tuttle.

From North Carolina, Tuttle is a 6'3", 315-pounder with excellent strength. He excels as a run defender who can stack blocks and anchor at the point of attack. He would be a great fit in a two-gap defensive scheme, and he can play defensive end in a 3-4.

Tuttle shoots his hands well into his targets, creating a jolt when striking. He drops his weight quickly when he reads the run, which causes problems for offensive linemen. Tuttle's ability to make a mess in the middle is a sight to see, as he can even anchor versus double-teams.

He's a solid pass-rusher, but Tuttle's best value is as a nasty, tough and physical run defender.

Alabama, North Carolina and Clemson are just some of Tuttle's top schools, according to 247Sports.

At 6'2" and 316 pounds, it's awesome to watch 5-star defensive tackle Daron Payne constantly beat his teammates off of the ball.

He's a big-bodied defender with good toughness and power. Payne, who can anchor with ease, shows immediate ball-location skills at the snap, which shows he plays with awareness and instincts. He has a good feel for the running game due to his ability to recognize blocks.

Payne has a big-time motor, as he hustles and pursues the ball hard every play. He punches and strikes with strength, but flashes some hand-quickness to counter offensive linemen when escaping and shedding blocks.

He's an above-average pass-rusher at this point because he's bigger and stronger than many of his opponents. Yet, Payne appears to be best suited as a run-stopping specialist in a two-gap scheme, and he wouldn't be a bad fit at all in a 3-4 defense.

It would be a major upset if the Alabama native did not sign with one of the Iron Bowl schools.
