If Bama lost and got into the playoff, it would be disastrous. 3 teams within a 5 hour drive of each other in the playoff would further contribute to the rest of the country zoning out. The west coast checked out long ago. They dont give a rats arse about cfb. Hell USCs coach has been a joke and they still retained him. Only one team west of the rockies has made a playoff in 4...now 5 playoffs.

IF Bama loses, it would be best to put OU in, assuming they win the Big12 championship game

It would be really easy for them to leave Bama out if we lost. So no, CFB doesn't need Bama to win.

Wouldn't be too easy to leave out the team that just had the most dominant regular season in the history of college football while playing in the toughest conference in the country.

Yes it would if you have 4 undefeated or one loss conference champions.

Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Oklahoma could be an easy decision.

People keep saying stuff like this, but Clemson, Georgia and Alabama made the playoffs last year. And The ratings for the playoffs in 2017 were up 21% from 2016. LINK

Also, the Georgia/Alabama national championship game last year was the second most-watched cable event EVER. LINK /

Alabama/SEC haters keep talking about how the playoffs/championship have become boring because the SEC/Alabama have remained dominant for years, yet they keep watching in record numbers.

Best four teams, not best conference champions. Some conferences are much harder then others.

All the playoff committee would have to ask themselves, would Bama win the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 or Big 12 if they were in those conferences.

ND has no game this weekend and the other playoff contenders play awful teams in their conference championship games.

Win or lose to Georgia, Bama is in the playoffs.

Again, that's subjective.

Georgia would get in over us, and Oklahoma would have revenge on the only team to beat them (which happens to be a top 15 team. Texas has lost 3 games by a total of 9 points). It's time to realize that Bama isn't automatically in and could easily be on the outside looking in after a loss to UGA.

Playoffs are about the best four teams, not some moronic agenda to placate lesser teams from lesser time zones.

With a loss to UGA, our 2 best wins are against a 9-3 LSU and 8-4 MSU. Not much to write home about.

People are so stuck in the belief that a conference championship game is a playoff qualifier. It's not. Winning a conference championship is great, and it stregthens your resume, but a conference championship win does NOT give a team an automatic bid into the playoff. Usually the teams selected for the playoff will be conference champions, but in the case that two of the four best teams are from the same conference, that's just not possible.

Alabama has won every single game this season by 22 points or more. But a close loss to #4 Georgia is supposed to eliminate them from the playoff and replace them with Oklahoma or Ohio State? Give me a break.

Alabama dominated ranked Texas A&M. They dominated ranked LSU. They dominated ranked Mississippi State. They've had ZERO close games all season.

Oklahoma lost to Texas and had extremely close wins against unranked Army, unranked Texas Tech, unranked Oklahoma State and West Virginia. They've given up 40+ points FIVE times this season.

Ohio State got absolutely destroyed by unranked Purdue, and had extremly close wins against Penn State, unranked Nebraska, and unranked Maryland.

Regardless of what happens in the SEC championship game, there is ZERO doubt that Alabama is a better team than Oklahoma or Ohio State.

What wins does Ohio State or Oklahoma have that are better?

So what. I don't understand this idea that beating a team that previously beat you completely negates the regular season loss. It doesn't. Good for them if they beat Texas in a rematch, but they still lost to them during the regular season. You wanna tell me how a close loss to #4 Georgia is worse than a close loss to #14 Texas?

I agree that Bama is better than the others but it is a very subjective decision to be made and the flack they get from fans/ADs/ University Presidents, talking heads etc, I just don’t trust em

We are going to win making all this speculation unnecessary.

Agreed. Alabama 42, Georgia 21. And while that looks like a blowout, that will actually be the smallest margin of victory for Alabama so far this season.

Deep down the committee knows Bama and Clemson are two best teams and have said so. Let’s just win and be done with it

You can’t possibly know that for sure. Oklahoma would have 4 ranked wins to our 3 and would have avenged their only loss of the season. Last year we got in because OSU had two losses of which one was a blowout to an UR team.

I highly doubt they leave out an undefeated ND team either.

LOL. LSU is arguably better than either of those wins, and Penn State is definitely nothing to write home about either. Alabama's wins against A&M and Mississippi State are definitely comparable.

And again, OSU's loss to Purdue will hurt them just as much this year as their loss to Iowa hurt last year. Close wins against a couple other BAD teams don't help their case either.

Oklahoma has 2 ranked wins right now (Iowa State and West Virginia). If they beat Texas, that would be their third.
