Sure, in the BCS era when SOS was a documented component and there's only 2 spots available I can definitely see the case. 2014-present not so much.

Not all schedules are created equal.

Good. Barring injury at a key position, a playoff-caliber team shouldn't lose three games.

We may be the only dumb program actually wanting to schedule a very difficult non-conference schedule.

Someone remind Saban and the AD that SOS no longer matters.

Of course, maybe there is another reason Saban wants to have a very difficult non-conf set up for the next few years.

frick that. I'm tired of us beating up on hapless teams. If we're as good as we claim, schedule the best and fricking beat them. We're not 8 solely because of W-L, we rightfully are behind the team that came into our house and beat us. If Texas was 6, we'd be 7. The top 5 are all undefeated.

With a 12 team playoff we'll usually be in even with 2 losses if it came against a tough schedule.

Bama would be 12-1 with a 11 game winning streak and would have just beaten the 2 time national champion on a neutral field. Zero chance the committee leaves Bama out in that scenario. Zero.

We're likely in, but the chance of being left out isn't zero.

If Michigan/OSU and FSU go unbeaten, they're locks. So, 2 spots left.

If it's us vs 12-1 Big XII Champion Texas, who didn't just win but beat us on our own field, Texas has to be above us. I would celebrate SEC bias putting us over them behind the guise of SEC > Big 12, but Texas should riot in that scenario.

We need Texas to lose again to be fully comfortable. The other problem is Washington. If they go unbeaten, they have to be in. However, I doubt they can't find a loss with their remaining schedule. But even still, a 1 loss Pac-12 champion would still have a really strong argument with how tough their conference has actually been this year. I imagine we get in over 1 loss Washington, maybe over 1 loss Oregon (but if Oregon beats Washington they will have beaten every team they played), but obviously not undefeated Washington.

So I'm rooting against the Pac-12 contenders and against Texas, because I don't think the winner of The Game loses before or after and I don't think FSU loses.

I don’t get why the sec just didn’t tell UGA and Oklahoma tough shite you’re just going to have to play each other in 2024 also and it’s an extra conference game. Or don’t count that towards conf record.

Cancelling the game and giving them both an extra OOC cupcake this season was weak sauce

I prefer entertaining games over a cakewalk schedule. What's the point in walking into post season only to get run out? Bama isn't Neuter Lame. Either earn a spot or stay home.

So you would rather play a difficult non conference schedule on top of an already very difficult sec schedule to ‘earn’ your spot in the playoffs? With the playoffs, sos no longer matters. I’d rather make the playoffs. Against my wishes, CFB has become the mini NFL where regular season becomes a pedestrian path to the playoffs.

Not so much about the playoffs as it is about good football. Bama had the lead going into the 4th quarter vs Texas. Is that not better entertainment than kicking the shite out of Mercer?

Is making the playoffs by beating Mercer not better than watching other teams play in the playoffs? The end game is winning a NC. Don’t make the playoffs and you’re irrelevant.

Also, there is not a single regular season game more entertaining than watching Bama play in the playoffs.
