It’s shaping up to be a historically bad season. Arkansas is terrible and for this series, we were worse. It’s hard for me to comprehend this inability to score. Knowing if the opponent gets 2 to 3 runs the game is probably over. Bases loaded no outs means absolutely nothing for us. Girls are randomly getting hits but cannot string anything together. Unless something changes I’m not sure this team will even sniff post season play. Sad to watch.
Alabama Softball Drops Series Finale to Arkansas in Extra Innings, 2-1
The Crimson Tide return to Rhoads Stadium Wednesday, hosting UAB at 6 p.m. CT
For the second straight night, Alabama had the bases loaded with a chance to get the walk-off win over Arkansas, but the Crimson Tide could not get it done again on Monday night in the series finale as the Razorbacks held on to win, 2-1, in 10 innings.
Alabama (22-8, 1-2 SEC) took the first lead over Arkansas (22-8, 3-3 SEC) on a two-out solo home run from Emma Broadfoot in the bottom of the second, but the Razorbacks tied it up in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Lauren Camenzind. Arkansas stranded runners at the corners in the top of the fifth and the Crimson Tide left two on base in the sixth, as it remained knotted up at 1-1 heading to the seventh. Both teams went down in order, sending the game to extras. The Razorbacks stranded a runner in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings before Alabama threatened in the home half of the ninth, loading the bases with two away before a flyout ended it and sent it to the 10th.
Arkansas broke the tie in the top of the 10th with a solo home run before the Tide made a push in the bottom half, with three-straight singles from Ashley Prange, Ally Shipman and Bailey Dowling loading the bases with one out. A pair of strikeouts ended the rally and the game as the Razorbacks took the series.
Five different Alabama players had a hit in the game, including the 10th-inning single from Dowling to extend her hitting streak to four games. Broadfoot's home run was her second of the season, her first since the season opener against Lehigh. Montana Fouts (11-4) threw a complete game, setting a new career high with 173 pitches thrown in the losing effort.
From Associate head Coach Alyson Habetz
"The people that have been up in those late game situations haven't had as many opportunities as maybe some of our other players. In that last inning, we get three hits from our veterans back-to-back-to-back, and then maybe a younger player or someone who doesn't have as much experience in those pressure situations comes up. However, that experience alone is going to help us down the road because the more they're in those clutch situations now, even if they don't come through, they know what that pressure and anxiety feels like and it will definitely benefit them in the long run. Those young players just need more opportunities to do it."

But yea, this is terrible. And it's been this way for a while now outside of having Bailey Hemphill around to blast a few and give you some runs when you needed them.

I said a few weeks ago we would be lucky to get to 500 in SEC play. I watched it all last night and our at bats were horrible in a lot of instances. Veteran players swinging at balls low and near the dirt. Then letting one down the middle go in for a called strike 3.
Ark is reloading this year with a lot of freshman. If we can go 10 innings and Fouts only give up two runs then there is no reason why our batters can not get 3 in 10 innings.

We always have a few players that watch the first pitch strike right down the middle.
Some take two good pitches and then swing at one out of the zone.
Most years we've had a few too many slappers as well.
I would like to know why Sides left for Ark. She was one of our best all around players and we sure could have used her last year.

Super senior Faith Hensley and junior Emma Broadfoot both struck out swinging. What is she even talking about? She should have been shown the door years ago.
Alabama softball isn't a team it's a cult of personality. Murph plays favorites with the players who rave about him and pushes out any players who question how things are run, even if they happen to be all-americans. Cough* KB Sides *Cough.
Murph knows absolutely nothing about hitting and neither does his "hitting coach" Habetz. Bloodworth started out on fire last season and slowly regressed the longer she was under their "coaching". The same thing is happening to Cahalan. Started out on fire and goes 0fer the series against Arky.
Get ready to scratch out another struggle win against UAB, probably having to use Fouts at some point, and then get swept by the Vawls this weekend.

Softball seems to be striving for unranked and road regional in 2023.

Cahalan ripped the cover off the ball last game but those shots was directly at somebody.
Her swing is better than all the players.
Her swing is better than all the players.

Didn’t think I’d live to see the day Bama scored 12 runs in a game again. Hopefully it will carry over to Knoxville this weekend….

Alabama softball was efficient in all phases of the game Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium, dispatching UAB, 12-0, in just over an hour behind a one-hit shutout from Alex Salter and a big day at the plate for the offense.
Alabama (23-8) tallied a season-high 14 hits in the win over UAB (13-16), scoring two runs in the first inning before hanging a crooked number in the second with nine runs on seven hits and an error to make it 11-0. Another in the third brought the score to 12-0, which ultimately proved final as Salter (3-1) and the defense made quick work of the Blazers down the stretch. A one-out single in the top of the fifth broke up Salter's perfect game bid, otherwise retiring 15 of the 16 batters she faced.
On the offensive side of the ball, nine players combined for 14 hits, including a 3-for-3 day from Ally Shipman with two RBIs. Bailey Dowling was 2-for-2 batting in front of Shipman, extending her hitting streak to five games which is one shy of her career long set last season. Kenleigh Cahalan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot and Kali Heivilin was also 2-for-3 batting behind her, including a solo home run to get the scoring started for the Crimson Tide in the first inning.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Sometimes, you just have to go through the hard stuff to get to the good stuff. I told the team one of my favorite quotes tonight - 'Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor.' Sometimes it's rough, but you learn a lot about yourself as a team and as a coaching staff. You learn what you're made out of. [Alex] Salter did a great job tonight. It was probably her best game she's pitched for us. The defense played well. Then, obviously you get five hits in the first inning and seven in the second and you kind of bury them early. Last time we played them it was a close ball game, so this was a big difference."

Fouts having a bad 3rd inning. We down 2-0 so far. She is at 55 pitches

Not surprising, I'm sure she's feeling the pressure of having to carry this team. She gets zero offense to help her out when she's in the circle
