Alabama Offense Under Saban Remarkably Balanced
ByKirk McNair
quote:

One of my best friends has a PhD in statistics. I like to wow him with statistical facts such as:

• Only one in three pigs can build a brick house
• Eight out of nine reindeer do not have very shiny noses
• Three out of three blind mice will have their tails cut off by a carving knife-wielding farmer’s wife
• Only one of seven dwarfs is likely to be Dopey. Or Grumpy. Or Happy.

There also are football statistics of interest.

The Nick Saban Era of Alabama football has been marked by a remarkable balance in offense in almost every season, the view of balance being relatively close totals in rushing yardage and passing yardage.

Just to cut to the bottom line, in the 12 years of Crimson Tide football under Saban, Bama has amassed 34,612 yards of rushing offense and 38,433 yards of passing offense. Of the 73,045 yards, that works out to 47.4 percent rushing, 52.6 percent passing.

An oddity is that the two greatest outliers were strikingly different seasons of success

The fewest yards of total offense in a season under Saban was the first in 2007 when it managed only 4,859 yards and is one of two seasons in which rushing yardage accounted for less than 40 percent of the total, 1,940 yards or 39.9 percent. That team finished 7-6.

The most yards in a season was last year, the 2018 Tide racking up 7,830 yards in offense en route to a 14-1 season. Rushing last year was 2,976 yards, or 38 percent of the total with passing a whopping 4,854 yards for 62 percent.

This year Steve Sarkisian will be Alabama’s offensive coordinator. He will be the seventh in the Saban Era.

The five national championship seasons have been relatively close in balance between rushing yards and passing yards.

In 2009, rushing was 53.4 percent, passing 46.6 percent. In 2011, rushing 49.9 percent, passing 50.1 percent. In 2012, rushing 51.1 percent, passing 48.9 percent. In 2015, rushing 46.8 percent, passing 53.2 percent. In 2017, rushing 56.4 percent, passing 43.6 percent.

Here’s a year-by-year look at Alabama offense under Saban:

2007 (7-6 record), Major Applewhite offensive coordinator, Terry Grant top rusher, John Parker Wilson top passer, 1,940 rushing yards (39.9 percent), 19 rushing touchdowns, 2,919 passing yards (60.1 percent), 19 passing touchdowns, 4,859 yards

2008 (12-2), Jim McElwain OC, Glen Coffee top rusher, Wilson top passer, 2,585 rushing (51.9 percent) 32 TDs, 2,396 passing (48.1 percent) 11 TDs, 4,981 yards

2014 (12-2), Lane Kiffin OC, Derrick Henry top rusher, Blake Sims top passer, 2,893 rushing (42.7 percent), 35 TDs, 3,890 passing (57.3 percent), 32 TDs, 6,783 yards

*2015 (14-1), Kiffin OC, Henry top rusher, Jake Coker top passer, 2,999 rushing (46.8 percent), 33 TDs, 3,407 passing (53.2 percent), 22 TDs, 6,406 yards

*National Championship season

These numbers, of course, are not part of the 63.4 percent of statistics that are made up

However, for long articles I think it's much better to just post the titled link, site and intro segment instead of the entire article. When a thread has excessive streams of article tmext it seems to reduce discussions and also makes them more difficult to follow.

This and it's misleading because the activity in the thread isn't new discussion.

But it's ok if someone isn't willing to do two simple clicks, to avoid forcing his fellow Bama fans to scroll through long streams of article text?

No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Let me know if someone is and we'll arrange a rescue mission.
If people want to see the pretty formatting on the other site, then 66 has provided the link for them.

You wanted 66 to take over

ETA: I'm hoping RollTide66 can take over this thread. He did a great job on the Spring Camp thread. The FB recruiting thread is already a ton of work for me.

But now you don't agree with how he's doing it. Why can't we just appreciate that he's doing it the way he wants to do it and if he wants any advice, he'll ask for it. He could easily just tell everyone to piss off and do it themselves

I thought we had already agreed that we just disgree on the matter of whether or not it's better to post entire very long articles.

I've already expressed my compliments and appreciation to RollTide66 for the great job and hard work he did on the spring camp thtead and is doing on this thread. It's especially nice that he brings info from various sites. I know pretty well how much time and work it involves.

Alabama Football: Fall Camp session No. 1 news and player updates by Ronald Evans
quote:

Friday was session No. 1 for Alabama football, fall camp. Based on drill rotations, there is news on injured players along with hints at a depth chart.

Adding humidity to the heat, it was plenty hot on the Alabama football practice field Friday afternoon. The heat was enough to bother at least one of the big bodies. The players begin in an acclimation period, meaning no work in full pads and no full-speed contact for a few days.

As we mentioned in a recent post, Alabama football head trainer, Jeff Allen has a new cool tent ready for the players who become stressed by the heat. And by cool, we mean really cool. The new addition to the Crimson Tide practice field will get plenty of use before October rolls around.

Alabama Football: Sarkisian will not change much of the Tide offense
by Ronald Evans
quote:

Steve Sarkisian will not make big changes in the Alabama football offense. One reason is the prolific offense Sark inherited. The other reason is Nick Saban

Alabama football set program offensive records last season. Until the 2018 Crimson Tide offense faced Clemson, its explosiveness was enough to overcome any of the team’s defensive weaknesses.

Despite Tua Tagovailoa’s injury difficulties during the season, the Alabama football offense set two especially impressive program records. The new record of 522 yards-per-game, blew past the old record. The other impressive new program record was 45.6 points-per-game.

Quote to remember from
: Nick Saban: "This is one of the best-conditioned teams we've had coming out of summer."

Will be interesting to see how this pans out throughout the season.
Coach is already impressed by this team.
