What a win. Vic gave up a lot of base runners and is lucky with all the bases loaded to have given up only one run.

I have been as big of a Murph critic as anyone. Can’t deny what he and the staff put together this year. They hit big time in the portal (Wells), developed upperclassmen (pupillo, Giles), and have a great freshman class contributing (Vic, Roman). I’m happy to enjoy some crow.

Same. I'm definitely eating crow this season with the job he's done.

Murphy had a real problem in the last few years because he missed pretty hard in a few classes back to back in the early 2020s and it reached its maximum impact in the last 3 seasons.

Cannot deny that the last couple of years they've brought in some really good players. Amazing what happens when you don't have such an anemic lineup where you can just pitch around any of the threats with minimal risk.

Hope that Huntsville’s field isn’t as retardedly positioned like Kentucky’s. Got shadow over the batters box and sun right in left field’s eyes.

I think the problem was Kavan was dialed in today and the ump had a pretty generous strike zone on the corners. Her riseball is really good, so when she has location on her other pitches and/or the ump is giving strikes on the outside corners generously then the riseball becomes an even more effective strikeout pitch. But today, she was even getting ladies standing like statues looking at pitches that were marginal strike calls instead of just stacking up swing and miss SOs on the rise.

Also, neither Briski nor Moten really had it today. The way Kavan was pitching, we needed our ace to be an ace. However, Briski really was struggling badly with location and constantly fighting from behind on the count.

Edit: I will say that Murph not walking Hunter after the wild pitch that took the count full was a big mistake. That blew the game open and allowed Kavan to be even more aggressive. We needed that game to stay 2-1 not 3-1 or 5-1 where it ended up. Once first base opened up, you can't let the best hitter in the conference get a swing with a RISP.
