Amen to that. It was shaping up to be like so many of the late inning losses when that 5 run lead started slipping away. But the ladies dug deep and pulled this one out to even up the conference record and win the series. The flaws are still there but the team is playing better. Need this one today and at least one at USCe next week and Rhoads will likely be hosting a regional.

After Alabama gave up a three-run lead in the top of the seventh to Missouri, the Crimson Tide put the go-ahead run in scoring position in the bottom half and an errant throw allowed the winning run to score as Alabama won in walk-off fashion, 7-6, to clinch the weekend series over the Tigers.

Alabama (34-18, 10-10 SEC) fell behind early as Missouri (23-28, 4-16 SEC) led off the game with a solo home run but the Tide bounced right back in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with nobody out to set up Brooke Ellestad for her second bases-clearing double of the weekend to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the third, Lauren Johnson drew a leadoff walk and Kali Heivilin crushed a two-run home run behind her to push the lead to 5-1. In the bottom of the fourth with two out and Marlie Giles at second, Lauren Johnson beat out an infield single and some heads-up baserunning from Giles allowed her to score and make it a five-run game.

The Tigers cut into the deficit with a two-run home run in the sixth and, down to their final out in the top of the seventh with two on base, Julia Crenshaw hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the inning, a pair of singles from Ellestad and Abby Duchscherer put two on with two out. Kendal Clark put the ball in play and an errant throw allowed pinch runner Kinley Pate to score from second and end the game in walk-off fashion to secure the series victory.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"A win is a win. Again, today was gritty not pretty. We have been on the other side of that kind of game many times this year. I'll take an ugly win over a clean loss any day. Catelyn [Riley] pitched really well and bounced back after the first batter hit a home run. She put up zeros and the defense played great all day."

I went to bed with us up 6-1 and how in the name of hades do we give up so many runs to a bad Mizz team? Almost lost it I see

Same song and dance. Riley, after a solid outing, throws 4 straight balls (rolling across the plate) to walk in the 6th. Then a home run followed to cut the lead to 3. Then Johnson comes in to close out the inning in pretty dominant fashion. Two batters reach in the 7th followed by the lead off batter’s 2nd home run of the game to tie it up. Here we go again. The ladies responded (with some help from Mizzou) with a walkoff in the bottom of the 7th and come away with an important win.

Our pitching is what it is at this point. Sometimes dominant. Sometimes frightening.

On a positive note, a bases loaded, no out situation ended with 3 runs for us in the first inning. How many times have we come up short in that scenario?

Alabama softball secured a series sweep over Missouri Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium, shutting out the Tigers 2-0.

The series sweep is Alabama's (35-18, 11-10 SEC) first this season and its first since taking three games over Ole Miss April 5-7 last year. It is the Crimson Tide's fourth straight series win over Missouri (23-29, 4-17 SEC) and its first sweep of the Tigers since March 8-10, 2019.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel until the bottom of the fifth, when a two-out single up the middle from Lauren Johnson allowed Audrey Vandagriff to score all the way from first and put the first run on the board. Brooke Ellestad doubled the lead with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth and that was all the Crimson Tide needed as Jocelyn Briski (14-10) and the Alabama defense faced the minimum in the seventh, with a one-out single erased on a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to secure the shutout and the series sweep.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"[Jocelyn] Briski one-upped everybody today with no walks and a shutout on the third day where she was facing their hitters again. Her, Riley Valentine and [pitching coach] Lance [McMahon] did an awesome job today working together on that. Our team defense has been awesome recently, the best its been all year, and it was poetic to end the game with a double play."
