The sad thing is though you can think of more positive things to sell about Jacksonville State and UNA football than you can Kentucky or Ole Miss. How did this generation of kids not get the memo about Ole Miss and racism?

You are joking right? Literally 5 years ago kids were still talking about Ole Miss and racism. Its like they got a free pass when the Tuohy's bought Michael Oher.

Probably lost in the mail with the pic of Wallace blocking the doorway. Glass houses and stones

quote:No i am not. The have a black female as the student body president and she is a Phi Mu. Those are two things that will NEVER happen at Bama, EVER. They also got away from the Colonel Reb mascot which was very racist symbol in itself. Other than getting away from "Ole Miss", they have tried extremely hard to move away from those negatives.

Yeah we will probably finish up our class with a bunch of three stars who only have offers from Tulane and UAB. Nobody wants to play for Bama.

And none of that has to do with the program showing any actual improvement. Both programs have an unfortunate history of racism. But unlike Ole Miss, we've now had 40 plus years of continuous success as an integrated football program. Ole Miss hasn't. I don't get why so many Bama fans take up for those idiots.
We buy a 5 star recruit from Memphis, get a decade of probation effects.
They buy a 5 star recruit from Memphis, get a feel good movie (which white washes the facts). And now their version of Kirk is now their head coach. I mean he is coach now because he was the Oher's high school coach.
Now that high school coach is landing recruits Ole Miss has never been able to land before and everything is completely legit? Seriously?

just ask all of the black bear fans which mascot they embrace. Don't they still sing Dixie?
Exactly they made "cosmetic" changes while our program has had sustained success with players of all races.

Monty, I don't know how old you are, but at least part of this has already happened at the University. Cleo Thomas, an African American, was elected SGA president in the mid-1970s.
But that will NEVER happen at Bama, EVER.

Exactly Ernest people want to throw out glass houses simply because they like Oxford. As someone who actually graduated from Alabama compared to other SEC schools I've been to we actually have our shite together concerning race relations. Other than the Machine situation but f ck those idiots.
I've actually had Ole Miss and Auburn alums tell someone in front of me that a person "should go to Auburn/Ole Miss instead of Alabama because Auburn/Oxford have less African Americans than Tuscaloosa". And the LSU/Tennessee fanbases are probably the least diverse of all the SEC fanbases I've encountered.

quote:Yea, there will always be alums like that. That is totally different than an administration active stance on segregation and racism.

I doubt kids are choosing Ole Miss now instead of say 5 years ago because they have a black bear instead of a dude in a funny hat. But think whatever you want I guess, the head coach being the guy who funneled Oher to Ole Miss in exchange for an administrative position isn't it at all.

quote:I'm not saying that is why kids are choosing Ole Miss. I was explaining why more people have positive vibes about Ole Miss.

Now getting back to why kids are choosing Ole Miss over Bama is a different subject. There a lots of variables in play and the combination of variables are different for each recruit individually. Some of the variables may be present among several kids, but the same combination isn't present for all. Things like a young coach that is a players coach, immediate playing time, maybe some cash, not being demanded to commit to a process, no accountability atmosphere maybe and other things that appeals to a generation that has a lot of kids with a little less character and self discipline than we have seen before, are some contributing factors.

When does practice start for the All-American/US Army games?

Dude, we are Alabama. We will always get slammed for being racists, thanks to popular media as well as not helping ourselves in the news. Ole Miss may be a little worse, but don't act like UA is the cornerstone of acceptance and progressive lifestyles.
