Idk about excitement. The last time I was really excited was when Ray George was suppose to be coming in but didn't qualify smh.

Had there ever been this much talk about Alabama basketball while spring football practice is going on?
I dunno, some of those early 2000 years in school most of us did the "wow I heard Terrance Jones is killing it in practice!" while deep down knowing they sucked.

I was pretty jacked about the super point guard class with Steele and Weber. I think Weber played 2 games or something haha.

Honestly, there isn't much to talk about spring football wise outside of pure speculation. Basketball has been providing us a lot of news.
I think the local radio stations are more entertaining now because there is more interesting content with basketball seemingly on the rise along with football.

Last time there was this much buzz was the spring before Gottfried's senior season (1986-87). We had a loaded team coming back and there was actually some talk about being a Final Four dark horse.
The roster was Derrick McKey, Jim Farmer, Terry Coner, Michael Ansley, Mark Gottfried, James Jackson, Craig Dudley, and Keith Askins. That was a helluva top 8 lineup and I would match it against any lineup we've had in the last 50 years. We were deep and talented. Maybe not NBA talented but great college players who each had a role, knew their role, and embraced it. Coner was a helluva facilitator who could drive, dish, and direct. Farmer and Gottfried were the outside bombers (Farmer never met a shot he didn't like) and Ansley and McKey filled the lane and cleaned the glass. Askins and Dudley and Jackson provided solid depth off the bench. We had no glaring weaknesses. We just had the misfortune of running into a young up and coming coach at Providence named Pitino and his 3 pt assassin at shooting guard named Billy Donovan in the Sweet Sixteen.
After they bombed us out of the tourney from 3 point land, a rumor surfaced that Pitino had fed his team some cock and bull story about a sick child and winning one for him and his sick kid. Donovan and Pitino now deny that incident but I think they are lying. Providence played inspired ball against a superior opponent in Bama and continued to beat superior teams until they reached the Final Four. Maybe they just got hot at the right time but Pitino has a long history of stretching the truth when it suits him.
Bama finished 28-5 that year and 16-2 in the SEC. We lost to FSU by 1 on the road, Duke by 9, Florida by 10 on the road, Kentucky by 1 at home (after beating them in Rupp) and to Providence by 21 in the tourney. We won the regular season and SEC tourney. Beat Dale Brown's LSU in the SEC final. Great times!!

Cecil on TideSports about Armond

Not entirely shocked that he transferred, but it certainly came up suddenly. A week ago, UA staff expected him back. They had not really been looking to add a backcourt transfer. (Looking more for big wings and rebounders.) Will try to find out the revised recruiting plan as soon as possible.

My Wish List:
1. Egor Koulechov (6'5" Guard averaged 18 PPG, 9 RPG, and 47% from 3 off of 5 attempts/game)
2. Allerik Freeman
3. Mark Alstork
4. Noah Dickerson*
5. Darius Thompson
*Not a grad transfer
Probably the only realistic ones on here are Freeman, Dickerson, or Thompson. I'd cream myself if we got Koulechov though. He'd be exactly what we needed.

We got a shot at either of them 2 transfers from Memphis??
I know we recruited them both out of HS.

I certainly don’t think Alabama “leads” for Cam Johnson. They’d like to get a visit.
It’s very possible that Alabama will add one player and hold the other open scholarship for the 2018 class.

Where did the "leads" even come from?

I'm not sure why he has access to our board and posts in these basketball threads either.
I've only been positive/complimentary about Alabama basketball on the Bama board. Generally speaking, I root for Bama to do well in basketball too. I want us to have a Duke/UNC relevant nat'l rivalry than a Miss/MSU afterthought
This isn't the tRant, I don't troll here. I watch Bama basketball too and like discussing it with ya'll. Can't get this level of discussion on tRant

Yea, Gene seems to be salty for some reason.
tRant is made for trolling/being salty. Sliding in some bait/hooks on a clear bait & hook thread is what tRant is all about
I may not buy tickets on the hype train express (I don't for AU either), but I have no problem admitting AJ has done great thus far, the trajectory seems great and you should be excited.
While I'll point out that Bruce had a much steeper hill to climb, Avery has done a better job than Pearl up to this point

Yea - I agree that outside of extremes nothing on the rant should be applied to people here (unless it's just constant idiocy).
Besides, the conversation in question was between me and Gene and I certainly didn't take it as some sort of massive troll. He just has a slightly different opinion and was adding some SECrant sauce to it. I'll continue to respond with my own walls of text, though
I like having other people who enjoy talking SEC basketball on this board.

I did point out the shiny hook, then somehow I caught George with it after he knew I recognized it

I'm a hungry fish always looking for semi-fact based hook to gobble.
Sometimes I just like to hash out my own thoughts in text to make sure I have some semblance of evidence to back up my claims just for a self-check, and by that point, hell might as well just post it
