The Roll Hoops Roll twitter posted Thursday in Tuscaloosa should be sunny. This related to Forbes?
I think so. The timing of him choosing to commit right after we upped our recruitment of him suggests we're in a good spot.

His Twitter feed seems to point that direction as well. A lot of people talking about him as one of the top shooters in the class. If Petty does actually go pro that is certainly something we'll be needing next year.

I've enjoyed following our bball recruiting but I'm still pretty ignorant to the whole process and how it works.
If there are any at all, who are the winners and losers with these new rules?

On first glance it seems like it will either be neutral or a slight benefit. They are trying to gradually cut AAU coaches/teams out of the recruiting process, which has needed to happen for a really long time but was ignored until the FBI blew the lid off the whole racket. Shoe companies are still going to have influence though because those AAU scumbags are still going to have the ears of their players and push them to certain programs. I don't think it will change much other than maybe improving relationships between HS coaches and college coaches, which could potentially neutralize some of the, often nefarious, influence of AAU depending on what kind of relationship the player in question has with his HS coach.
Ultimately though, if the NCAA really wants to do anything they need to severely crack down on diploma mills/"academies" and do something major to, i.e. threaten the eligibility of, any recruit who plays on a sponsored AAU team.

It's making it so coaches can't attend as many AAU events, so AAU programs, the shoe companies that run those programs, and the people that exploit those events will be hurt.
AAU scouting events are being replaced by NCAA, USA Basketball, and NBA sanctioned scouting events.
It may make it harder for coaches to scout, so late bloomers may be harder to identify. Maybe that'll help some high major programs sneak a prospect with blue blood talent that just wasn't spotted.
How they choose what players get to go to the sanctioned scouting camps will be interesting. Right now it sounds like college coaches will be making a list of players to get invites.

I don't really think there are. Its biggest component (at least to me) seems to be limiting the effect apparel companies have on recruits. So if a team relies on those connections more, I guess they'd be the losers? Based on what I've read, I think it'll change how and when schools recruit, but I don't think it's going to change the recruiting landscape by strengthening or diminishing certain schools and their ability to recruit.

Collective thoughts on Forbes? Having a shooter is never a bad thing. Like someone else mentioned, it’s hard to know too much with so little film on him.

All I know is he’s supposed to be one of the best shooters in the class and he moved up into the top 100 (#100) ahead of Diante Smith on the 247 composite. So it’ll be a good get when he commits tomorrow

Got that Bama bump when people started predicting him to Bama

Also, people on the interwebs keep saying Butler hasn’t been cleared to practice/play. Anyone got inside info for how concerned we should be?

I’ve heard the same thing and I think it may be serious, but I don’t have really any details on it. I just know there’s a chance he may never play

Forbes committing is more of an okay day.
He's a worse prospect than Walton.

Why do you feel that way? They say Forbes is a lights out shooter

Walton has a much better offer list than Forbes. Forbes basically only has us, Kansas State, and several mid-majors.
Forbes AAU stats indicate he's just a high volume guy- 19.4 points per game, 33.5% shooting, 32% from 3. To be fair, his AAU team is trash, so he sort of had to he a high volume guy.
I think Forbes is a solid prospect, but it seems to me we got beat for Walton and settled for plan B.
