I don't have any specific stats but he missed a whole helluva lot of 15 footers. I have to imagine his jump shot percentage from 10-20 feet wasn't much better than his 3 PT %.

The games when he scored points were generally games when he got into a rhythm of slashing and scoring in transition.

Ya, this isn't some knock on the Volkswagen. If anything, it should make people excited just how much better he could be

Agree - but it does feel like some people are starting to take "could be" and equate it to "will be". Big gap in there.

2019 high 4-star wing Juwan Gary just visited Bama and had high remarks about the Tide. We also picked up a crystal ball, and he’s committing next week according to his insta (but the article says he’ll take more visits and commit in the fall so who knows) LINK

quote:

“It was a great campus and facilities and it felt like home,” Gary said of Alabama. “Avery Johnson broke it down. Him being an NBA championship person, being coach of the year and actually being a player, he knows where to take you to actually being a pro. So being with him, the assistant coaching staff, they are trying to prepare you for the next level no matter how many years it’s going to take, and he also going to try to make sure you that you can be the best basketball player out of this.” Gary has seen Johnson and the Crimson Tide in action and likes what they do in conjunction with what he does. “Their style of play fits me very well,” he said. “Their style of play is fast, they get out and run in transition, but at the same time they have to play defense. But coach Avery Johnson he likes to go out in more transition plays, got out there and get the ball, rebound and push it.”

Edit: The article is from June 13th, but today he posted on Instagram he’ll be announcing his commitment next week. Apparently we got 2 crystal balls yesterday. South Carolina has 86% of them but that article basically says they stopped recruiting him. It looks like we’re gonna land this guy

Edit #2: The crystal balls all show SC for some reason but still says Bama 14%......either way, it looks like we’re in good shape

If we land Gary, does that say anything about Lewis or Watford or is that completely unrelated?

Sindarius Thornwell is mad. I think he knows that Gary is about to pick us over his hometown school South Carolina:

Could be, but it could also be how they feel about the odds of one or two of Jones/Petty/Mack going pro. I still think Watford is ours until I see more substance to the Watford to Memphis rumors. I feel more confident about Lewis after he left the UK visit without an offer.

This would be a welcomed surprise commit. A borderline top 50 player that none of us really thought was on the radar.

BTW y'all need to convince me that Juwan isn't Tony Mitchell trying to come back for his senior year..

He's an athletic SF and 6'6" to boot

quote:

I hate how kids be scared to stay home a represent their own

quote:

I went to oak hill my last year of high school because i had to make sure my grades were straight to be clear to go to college, i could of went from oak hill to any top school in the country but i decided to created my own path and do something everybody scared to do

quote:

Lol i went to oak hill and told schools to don’t waste their time recruiting because i knew i was committing to South Carolina never been afraid of a challenge

quote:

I just hate how kids fall for coaches telling them they can make a kid a pro #thatsalie

quote:

Lol so when you’re done playing and you move back to South Carolina how can a school on the other side of the country help you?

He’s definitely talking about Gary leaving for Bama lmao. He mentioned that part about coaches telling players he can get them to the nba, that’s EXACTLY what Gary talked about Avery saying in the article

I was wondering if this was just a delayed reaction to Zion going elsewhere. But considering he's pretty much a lock to be a one and done, I'd say this has to be in reference to Gary.

I don’t follow Instagram much but apparently Gary just posted a pic of Coleman Coliseum and tagged Tevin Mack (who I heard he’s friends with)

Sindarius is saying he wasn’t talking about Juwan. But I feel like it’s a coverup. He didn’t expect many people to pay attention to what he was saying, but all the Bama fans were bringing a lot of attention to it and he didn’t want it to blow up in his face, so he tried to take it back

quote:

Btw My comments have nothing to do with Juwan that’s the lil bro been my lol bro he know I’ll support him wherever he ends up and that I’m a phone call away

Gary averaged 18 point and 5 rebounds per game in EYBL this year. All-EYBL Honorable Mention along with Watford 17 and 8 and Kira 20 and 4 assists.

Jaylen Forbes was on there too with 20 points and 5 boards, but terrible shooting percentages. The team Forbes was on is just awful to be fair.

Gary shot 41.5% overall and 25.6% from 3.

James Wiseman was only an honorable mention as well.

We have a prototype wing we recruit under Avery. Long, athletic guys that can up and down and handle the ball but aren't great shooters.

Wow, Gary would be a nice out of the blue pickup.

If things went according to the original plan and landed Watford/Lewis (I'll stay positive for a minute), that'd be a helluva haul.

#15 - Trendon Watford (5-star) (PF)
#24 - Kira Lewis (5-star) (PG)
#73 - Juwan Gary (4-star) (SF)
#123 - Diante Smith (4-star) (SF)

I think that's been Alabama's prototype forward for the last 40 years
