Antoine is a really good recruiter tho.

Off Topic a little bit but I wonder if he plays in Coach Sabans BBall games?? And if he does the team that gets him must have a huge advantage.

Maybe we could get someone that is a better recruiter. Bama used to pull in big recruits before Pettway, I'm pretty sure they could do it again.

My heart has a softspot for Pettway, that floater he hit against Southern Illinois still gets me pumped up just thinking about it.

I have a soft spot for winning. I understand that he was needed to help Avery with the transition and everything, but dang, I'm not sure what he brings besides recruiting. There are fans out there that would want him to be the head coach if Avery left. That's just crazy

That's not that hard to replace.

I really think it would be beneficial for Pettway too.

He clearly can recruit, but he needs to take an AHC type position at a small conference outside the SE under a great midmajor coach.

Learning how to win at a talent disadvantage, learning how to scout/evaluate kids who go unnoticed by ESPN/247,
and learning how to build teams around teamwork + great X's & O's

Would be the best thing for him if he wants to be a HC.

He left an AHC gig at Providence then got fired to make room for Pelphrey it looks like?

He was fired I think because Pettway deserved a promotion. He was on the staff with Pelphrey last year.

Pettway is the last coach on our staff I'd want gone. He consistently will call out our opponents' offensive sets during games, he's not just a good recruiter- he's a great recruiter, and he loves the program. I think if Pettway left you would see a massive dropoff in our defense.

I think the shooting is on the players. They've just got to get in the gym and become more consistent.

Antoine Pettway is Alabama basketball. Firing him would be a good way to enrage the fanbase.

I agree Tom...No one had or has a passion to win like Pett does, how quickly people dismiss this amazes me. Our staff is very good, players just need to do the individual work in the summer and they'll be fine. They've tasted the tournament and now I believe they want more.

And btw Bob Simon is a petty person who clearly needed to be gone.

His "firing" was not having his contract renewed which means he didn't get any buyout money. I imagine that there were some "handshake agreements" and selling points that Simon thought Bama didn't hold up

I mean, I'd be pissed if I took a lateral title move from a solid Big East program only for them to hire a clear "AHC" replacement in Pelphrey after one year

I'm not gonna argue with anything you said, but Bob is only hurting his cause by tweeting stuff. It's one thing to be mad, but this is sports. This stuff is common, and airing it out online is not a good look

Also, I imagine Bob got a nice pay bump for coming down here from Providence. Providence is a good program, but it only has several thousand students and doesn't have any football TV money to spend.

Oh for sure, guy is an idiot Not a good look and likely hurts his future career.

My original comments were in response to someone saying that Avery treated him with nothing but respect. Avery may have made the right move but that doesn't mean Simon doesn't have a good reason for feeling slighted

I disagree with this. He is no more "Alabama basketball" than Gottfried or anyone else. No one is above getting fired

When i said Avery treated him with nothing but respect, I meant publicly. He didn’t make Bob Simon look like a bad guy/coach. He didn’t even really fire him, he just didn’t renew his contract. We don’t know how he was treated behind the scenes

No reasonable point can be made to fire Pett... Asinine to suggest otherwise. Gottfried became lazy and entitled and shut it down...He got canned because of it. Pett recruits hard and is a good teacher on the defensive end. His passion is night and day from Gottfried, who btw was jealous of the football program and so insecure about it that it was baffling.

How can you talk about his passion? You're just speculating and trying to pass it off as facts.

This is ridiculous. How do you know he has more passion than Avery or Pelphrey?

Please tell me u were around when he played...Not comparing his desire to Avery or pelphrey but he bleeds Alabama and it's carried over from his playing days. Recruits and players love Pett...Along with the fact what Tom pointed out about calling out the other team's sets. That's scouting and coaching .

I would hope they all bleed Bama since they are taking the University's money. As far as him calling out sets, he's a damn coach, he's supposed to do that. It's not like he's creating miracles out there The hot dog vender is selling wieners because it's his job, but he isn't above being fired

I was around when he played and I appreciate what he has done, but I can't say he was any more passionate than Ronald Steele or James Robinson or Gary Waites.

Ok I can understand that...But what would be the basis of cutting him loose. Btw alot of coaches take money at alot of places but don't really do their job.
