Splitting hairs. Point is the money wasn't intended for Sexton.

The Baker situation shouldn't be a huge problem/concern. One of two outcomes happens from what it looks like

1- Sexton/father didn't take money or it isn't uncovered. Sexton is fine

2- Sexton hasn't played any games and should be allowed to "repay" to retain eligibility. Maybe he gets a slap on the wrist but probably could claim "I didn't know it broke rules + Baker told me it was allowed"

NCAA has a track record of allowing repayment. Especially since there weren't any games played he was ineligible and the $ amount is unknown

NiKe EYBL is going to be a crazy ride. It probably will be so widespread that NCAA can't do shite. That or be luck of the draw whether any specific team is caught

I would think Bama could use the whole "we hired this guy from YOU b/c we assumed you'd vetted him and he knew and was committed to the rules". This guy's previous employer being the NCAA and his role being in compliance should help Bama with the whole "we are committed to compliance" defense.

As I pointed out above, I don't think it will matter a ton whether Sextons dad took money. He should have a path out

Some money would be to go to the player if they accept tho. When agents meet w players they have to give some type of consideration to make their arrangement binding. They give the player $ because it then means they have a deal. The agent is trying to pay the player

If this is the only incident y'all get caught up in, I wouldn't worry about your program.

Worst case you get a failure to monitor and probation? NCAA will be stretched thin investigating other schools to do worse. On behalf of AU, you're welcome

Im thinking both Auburm/Bama barely get touched by this now as far as player eligibility

Zona just had a bombshell drop that they offered a kid $150,000 and Miami was trying to match w help from Adidas to avoid him going to Nike Zona

At least we know the state of Alabama isn't divided like the country. We got Alabama and Auburn cheating together

I was happy, we were called by the US Attorney a "top tier program" I think we #MadeIt as a #BasketballSchool

Finding out our players are happy with $10k while Arizona is offering recruits $150,000? F this. Auburn isnt even top tier at cheating in basketball

Personally, I think we are at the "it's too big to fail" point with the NCAA. With more and more schools getting caught up in the vortex, one of the NCAA's cash cows (March Madness) will be threatened. I expect a huge PR and media campaign to paint these coaches and others as greedy rogues trying to line their own pockets at the expense of these student athletes and institutions of higher learning. Whatever complicity by the schools themselves will be downplayed. The schools so filthy they can't be polished up in the court of public opinion (Louisville) will be sacrificed. Those with only technical or tangential guilt will be spared, I think.

I'm with you except I think major programs just cut out NCAA Altogether

Big programs can allow players to market themselves/accept 3rd party money. No reason they should limit themselves for "fairness" so Colgate has a shot

Put it this way, if you got a top recruit you are probably mixed up in this.

If blueblood programs like Zona/Louisville are paying $100k+ for recruits, no way us schmucks are out recruiting them By charm

2 updates: 1 for Bama, 1 for Auburn

The poster ce1976 on BOL who is always good with basketball info said none of our players will be missing any games.

Auburn announced Bruce Pearl will meet with the media on Friday for the first time since the investigation. It could be interesting, but it could also be nothing bc it's the first day of practice

I would just say the "As of what we know right now" rule applies

Same for Bruce situation

He is still the coach... For now

Yeah as of right now I think we're ok. But that doesn't mean more info won't come out. I just hope and pray it doesn't.

Also, I really don't think Pearl will be fired

I think for Bama the EYBL is the biggest concern but even then it would be systemic NCAA. Bama has legit outs/reasonable outcomes if Baker thing turns into something

Auburn is a shitty situation because we have something verified + Asst Coach major player and Bruces past.

Auburn won't fire Bruce unless forced. NCAA though may want to take a pound of flesh given how they were embarrassed during Cam Newton + rumor is they feel Bruce cheated the show cause when AU hired him before it ended

I'll be interested to see if Pearl discusses this at all or simply says it's an ongoing investigation and he'll only talk about the practice.

Knowing Pearl I'd be shocked if he doesn't discuss it. Just will be within boundaries and vague / confirmation of facts. May not allow questions about it

Multiple credible AU sources said that Persons was pushed by our AD when hired. Which is typical AU bullshite
