Basketball assistants are tough to look on paper and evaluate since they don't really coach "positions" per say. It really all comes down to reputation with those guys, and most of the time we don't really know what those are for a lot of assistants.

I do know that recruiting wise he was brought in to snag some Metro Atlanta kids and he really never did. However, UGA has NEVER recruited Atlanta well or consistently, so that doesn't mean a ton.

My Georgia guy thinks this is a good hire for Johnson. He said he could see him having a lot better recruiting success here than Georgia because Johnson is a lot easier to sell than Fox and he can play the AAU game.

Yea, that is a huge hindrance. Fox won't touch it, which is basically like a football coach refusing to have camps.

My guess is Avery sees him as a guy who can start cultivating Atlanta. Hopefully it works out.

If he can do well in Atlanta, that'd be huge. Some great players in that area every year now. Still hoping for a Georgia Tech game this year, or a neutral game in Phillip's Arena would be amazing.

I would love a regular home and home series with Georgia Tech. Partly because I'd love to go see the Tide at Philips or the Thriller Dome every other year, but also because it'd be a fun old series to renew.

He also coached at Oregon and helped them reel in a top 25 class in 2008. That was before they were really good at basketball. So that's a pretty good job right there.

Another UGA fan

Rosemond got us Ogbeide and Hightower for this class. Losing anyone that can bring in 4* basketball talent to our program isn't good. But, hey, maybe Fox finally sees the writing ont he wall and starts taking the Atlanta AAU scene seriously.

It might actually help us more right now having Mo as an AAU coach. I think he'll move up to be a really successful coach pretty quickly. He's done a great job in a short time for that team.

Alabama recently offered but didn't make the cut

That's a helluva list and I'm not surprised or disappointed we didn't make it. To be considered with that list of blue bloods is something we'll have to earn and we're not there yet.

I'm happy with the new hire. Knows the area. Should be able to help out.
