Hey look, we're walking people. Back to back one out walks by Keller in the 3rd, two on and one out for UF.

ETA: Single scores a run making it 2-0 and putting runners at the corners with one out. Sac fly scores another. 3-0 with two outs and a runner on first.

We've walked three guys, they've all scored.

Single and a double and it's 5-0. Good grief.

Bottom of the 2nd and top of the 3rd was just the last few weeks in a nutshell. We can't do the little things right (failed sac bunt) and then can't get a big hit and squander a very promising inning. Then we walk two straight guys, they come around to score, and then the other team gets a couple of timely big hits. There's not a big difference in great teams and average ones right now, the great ones do the little things right and limit mistakes (including walking 1742 batters a game) though. We suck at those things right now.

Salem a one out hit, Wass a two out single. Two on and two out for Overstreet. Maybe we'll turn the two-out mojo around...

ETA: Look at that, a two-out hit with RISP by Overstreet and it's 5-1 as Salem scores. Still two on, two out for Smith. Need our best hitter to come through.

Smith hammered one to the wrong part of the park, flying out to very deep center to end the inning. Yet another scoring opportunity wasted.

5-1 Florida, T4

Good bounce back inning for Keller, gets Florida 1-2-3 in the 4th.

Yea, we really haven't been "good" since we swept Ole Miss, even though we won our next three series after that weekend before USC last week. Our pitching staff was ridiculously good at the beginning of the year, we knew they couldn't keep that up. You expected them to fall back to just being "very good" but they've actually, for the most part, regressed to average at best. Offense really hasn't produced all year (we've lost like 9 games despite giving up 2 runs or fewer), but that was kind of covered up by the pitchers picking them up the first half of the year. Now that the pitching isn't as good, the issues with the offense have really become more glaring.

We also have zero depth. We can't even find a DH. We just rotate sub-.200 hitters or guys who rarely play into that role. Today it's Hunter Webb and he's 0-2 and hit into two double plays. We have great talent at 6-7 position spots, but absolutely nothing behind that. The great teams have much more depth than that. We're getting closer with each good recruiting class, we're just not there yet.

It's hard to believe this is the same team as early in the season. Pitching and defense has been awful. Hitting has been anything but clutch

maybe we need to learn a lesson from Patrick Murphy and the SB team. Small ball on offense.

Infield single leads off the 5th for UF. Runners at 1st and 2nd after Keller issues a one out walk, his fourth of the game. Gaspard is tired of that shite, brings in Burrows. He should be good for at least 3-4 innings since he hasn't thrown all week. Hopefully he'll shut Florida down and give the offense a chance to catch up, not sure it'd matter though.

Have to be able to bunt and have guys put the ball in play, or hit it to the right side to advance runners, in order to do that. It's something we need to work on for sure because there's no excuse to be so bad at it. But right now even when we try to play small ball we usually fail miserably.

is that lack of coaching, lack of execution, or a combination of both.

Both. Probably just not enough time spent working on those things in BP and what not. It's kind of hard to "coach" those things but they become easier with repetition. Not being able to bunt is on the players and the execution really though, it has to be one of the easiest things to do in any of the three big sports, right up there with making a free throw in basketball. It'd also be nice if there were other options and players who could play at certain positions, where perhaps a lack of playing time could scare some of these guys to do the fundamental things better (although I have no idea whatsoever if attitude or anything like that is an issue, there's no reason to believe it is), but as I mentioned earlier we just have absolutely no depth.

Overstreet grounds out with two on to end the 5th. Another opportunity lost.

Florida brought in a new pitcher to get the last out, it was the 11th different pitcher (per Chris Stewart) that they've used this weekend. We've used 15 pitchers all year, and only 11 of them have been in more than 3 games. Just shows that maybe we don't have all the depth on the hill either that is required to be "great" as we thought we did (even when all of the bullpen guys were actually pitching well). We're getting there though, have another highly rated recruiting class coming in. The next couple of years should be really good, but the end of this one is shaping up to be quite the disappointment.

Webb bunts for a hit, two on and two out yet again. Mikey White up.

ETA: White hits a soft liner to short. Inning over. We've left 9 on base, 5 in scoring position.

Burrows has thrown 2.2 innings and hasn't been too sharp. We're down 7-1, B7. Two on and one out for Overstreet. Need to pull Burrows though and save as many innings in his freshman arm as possible for the final two weeks and postseason play. Hubbard was warming last inning, we need to give him some innings to see if he'll be a reliable option in the postseason.

Overstreet doubles, Smith a sac fly and it's 7-3. Hughston lines out to 1st to end the inning. 1st baseman made a tremendous play, can't blame Hughston on that one.

ETA: The Florida first baseman who made the great play was a defensive sub. Their starting first baseman was 3-4 at the plate with a homer and they were able to pull him with a lead for defense. Again, that's depth they have and we don't.

Hubbard walks the first two (the 8 and 9 hitters in their order) on 9 pitches. If nothing else, maybe we'll get our answer as to whether or not we can count on him coming off the injury in big spots the rest of the way.

ETA: And he's done. Jay Shaw coming in.
